Q: Based on the results the mainstream pollsters are publishing, what sorts of substances might be circulating in their blood?

Guy Benson at TownHall talks about the general propaganda push we can expect in October:

Remember, Jim Geraghty’s political svengali known as “Obi Wan” predicted that Democrats and their media henchmen would try to manufacture a last-minute “Dems are surging” narrative using bogus polls and contrived examples. It’s important not to be overconfident about November 2nd, but it’s equally imperative that we remain vigilant for misleading memes generated by the Left solely to discourage conservative voters.

Lefty rationalization:

  1. Consider the least ethical move possible in a given situation.
  2. Assert that the conservatives are already doing it.
  3. Commence a first strike.
  4. Claim it was defensive.
  5. Airbrush history as required to justify first strike.

Over at Big Government, Dr. Rahe asserts a contrary case in “Can We Trust The Polls“:

No one predicted Joe Miller’s victory in the Alaska primary; no one predicted Christine O’Donnell’s defeat of Mike Castle – and let’s face it: in neither case was the margin of victory small. My bet is that in November the Republicans will take every single race – for the House, the Senate, or at the state level – in which the pollsters (including Rasmussen, the best of the lot) report that the race is even remotely close

Just as I suspect that we lack a clear picture of how bad the national debt is, my gut is that our grasp of the decay in our electoral process is also dim. Witness the fact that Coates in the DoJ mentions the possibility of investigating 10 States for voter roll problems. I’ll confess naivete: the notion of screwing around with elections is outside of my imagination. I should think anyone with the temerity to screw around with elections, if convicted and after all appropriate appeals, should lose their citizenship. Let the bastards join the Foreign Legion, say I.
One hopes the Left understands: their hijinks were only good when fewer were paying attention.

My bet is that in November the Republicans will take every single race – for the House, the Senate, or at the state level – in which the pollsters (including Rasmussen, the best of the lot) report that the race is even remotely close

    I would not be that confident. Not at all. Not out of pessimism, but to avoid hubris. Many races are in fact close and many people will vote for what they deem their own short term interests than what is best for the country. There is a reason Obama won.

    Yes indies are breaking to Republicans, but (for the most part) Dems are not breaking to Republicans. Miller and O’Donnell won primaries. That should not be used as a general bellweather for the general elections. These races are (in many cases) tight and we need everyone going to the polls and voting to acheive victory.

    I don’t know about anyone else, but come the day that I can no longer trust the integrity of the electoral process?

    At that point, some of the “Refreshing of the Tree of Liberty” activity would seem to be the only remaining viable solution.

    Feingold’s seat now leans GOP? That is good news. Christine has an uphill battle. It is going to be tight to get GOP control of the Senate, but it is still possible. Everyone close race needs to be fought hard.

    jefferson101, before you spill blood to replenish the tree of liberty, you might crack that wallet of yours and donate to those candidates in tough races you want to win.

    I’m already doing that little thing. Not, it could be noted, as much of it as I would like, though.

    Like a lot of us, my employer is being Obamacized. That makes the paycheck shrink, which thins down the available.

    Though the Constitution clearly disagrees, I think any deliberate effort to undermine the integrity of our elections ought to be at least potentially considered treason.
