Two Women Forced to Apologize for Calling Male Librarian ‘Sexual Predator’

Judging from the retractions issued by Nina de Jesus and Lisa Rabey, their lawyers have advised them that making statements with “no factual basis at all” was a very bad idea. You can read Joe Murphy’s explanation of his $1.25 million lawsuit and ponder the difference between (a) branding someone a “sexual predator” de novo, and (b) citing previously published accounts and legal documents about a “notorious and thoroughly evil” felon. It would appear that Ms. de Jesus and Ms. Rabey have learned a valuable lesson. I hope they paid full price for that lesson.

    So true. When I went to library school in 1990 the main office had a map of the US with a 100 mile radius circle centered on every library school. We were told that we would not b able to find a job within those circles. Add in that libraries and librarians tend to be some of the first things cut when budgets get tighter, and yes, overall, there are probably too many of us.

    Not surprisingly the job of librarian is becoming extremly IT heavy. It also has the problem that many people, even those who routinely use a librarian’s services for research hear the word librarian and think of their elementary school librarian or the stereotypical public librarian saying hush. Many medical librarians are changing their titles to remove the word library or librarian precisely because of this stereotype and to reflect the changes in what the profession actually does. I imagine the same is true for many in the special libraries field too.

    Interesting how the language used here is the exact same as other false rape allegations. “I was just trying to bring attention…” . I can’t get my head around the reasons why someone could justify picking an innocent person to destroy and then not take a step back when giving an opportunity or even engage in some discussion as to why this is going on. Kafkaesque at it’s finest. Too many mentally ill easily obsessed people with a lot of time on their hands.

    I know a librarian who was for many years underemployed; she had a particular role picked out and was able to get on pt so had 2 or 3 pt jobs for years and years, until someone retired and she had the seniority to get the ft position in her chosen role.

    Mind you, that’s different than not being able to get a ft job as a librarian so she was underemployed by choice.

    They also provide many other things, such as downloadable resources, DVDs of both TV and movies, CDs, some provide museum tickets. They have classes.

    “to draw attention to the larger issue…” I’m starting a movement to push for laws demanding those that make false accusations to “draw attention to the larger issue” be drawn and quartered. To draw attention to the larger issue of dishonesty in activism. Feminists and friends line up on the left.

    They both seem to be very forthcoming in their admissions to wrong doing and sincere in their apologies. They should be commended- right before the guillotine removes their heads.

    I was suddenly reminded of a Get Smart episode. Chief has hidden a book with a list of all the Control agents in a public library. Just as he finds it two Chaos agents come in and Smart engages them. Every time the nurse Ratchet librarian sticks her head in they all sit down. Smart finally bests them and Chief hands Max the book. Then Chief says Chaos would go to any lengths and kill anyone who has the book. Max hands the book back. Brooks is a genius.

    Three women. Team Harpy is three women. Sarah Houghton “The Librarian in Black” is the third. She is also one of the reasons public libraries nationwide allow p0rn, because she is the American Library Association’s expert on Internet filters. She claims they do not work. But that’s based on old research she did many years ago. She still claims filters do not work. That’s false. She’s also one of Team Harpy claiming another librarian is a “s3xual predator.” That’s false.

    Does your library allow p0rn? It might be because the Team Harpy liar is lied again.

    I’m torn on the subject of filters, because the moment one is place, you know that SJWs will be trying to get “hate speech” added, while redefining it to mean dissent from “political correctness.”

    I understand that. Only there is no precedent for that — yet — that I know of. With regard to p0rn, however, the US Supreme Court said libraries have traditionally blocked p0rn so using filters to do so does NOT violate the First Amendment.
