Can We Make #FactsMatter Trend?

Jonathan Capehart (@capehartj) confronts #Ferguson truth:
[T]he Justice Department released two must-read investigations connected to the killing of Brown that filled in blanks, corrected the record and brought sunlight to dark places by revealing ugly practices that institutionalized racism and hardship. They have also forced me to deal with two uncomfortable truths: Brown never surrendered with his hands up, and Wilson was justified in shooting Brown. . . .
Wilson knew about the theft of the cigarillos from the convenience store and had a description of the suspects. Brown fought with the officer and tried to take his gun. And the popular hands-up storyline, which isn’t corroborated by ballistic and DNA evidence and multiple witness statements, was perpetuated by Witness 101. In fact, just about everything said to the media by Witness 101, whom we all know as Dorian Johnson, the friend with Brown that day, was not supported by the evidence and other witness statements. . . .
You can read the whole thing, and kudos to Capehart for owning up to the bogus narrative and the hateful liars who created it — the “Mardi Gras parade of nutbag racial opportunists,” as Regular Right Guy calls them. There is a world of difference between (a) calling attention to legitimate grievances and (b) dishonestly exploiting those grievances.
“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.”
— John Adams, 1770
“Truth is great and will prevail if left to herself . . . she is the proper and sufficient antagonist to error, and has nothing to fear from the conflict, unless by human interposition disarmed of her natural weapons, free argument and debate, errors ceasing to be dangerous when it is permitted freely to contradict them.”
— Thomas Jefferson, 1786
What has happened to our respect for facts and our love for truth? How is it that a proven liar like Dorian Johnson — who was wanted on a warrant for theft charges the day Michael Brown was shot — could be hired by the City of St. Louis? How is that, after Johnson’s lie helped spark riots and the shooting of police officers, there are so few journalists who care about the facts and truth in Ferguson? How is it that MSNBC can employ a liar like Al Sharpton and nobody else in the media will speak the truth about what a dishonest monster Sharpton really is?
It's a tragic moment for American journalism when a liberal is forced to admit the truth. #tcot @CapehartJ pic.twitter.com/rzRFUX4f4m

Of course, if liberals weren’t willing to tell lies — and fools weren’t ready to believe lies — no Democrat could ever get elected.

Sounds like it’s a good day to buy a lottery ticket– a Democrat actually told the truth about a phony Team Blue narrative.

Asking those questions answers them…
March 19th, 2015 @ 8:56 am
At least one has learned and admitted it. It’s a good sign. Now we watch to see if others follow. I doubt it will happen, however.

It’s an amazing thing when an ear finally zeros in on the resonant frequency of the truth…anything can happen…
March 19th, 2015 @ 9:26 am
Capehart will be castigated by the others for failing to perpetuate The Narrative™.

I finally figured out the near-messianic worship (at least in public) of Ear Leader Barry Obama and all his evil works by what seems to be just about 95% of the black population in this country; they feel he will be the means by which any vestige of institutionalized white racism will be expunged from the USA.
To be replaced, naturellement, with institutionalized black racism. Because fair is fair! /s

It’s the same narrative we’ve seen over and over again since the accidental meeting of Obama’s election and Twitter, or as they call it themselves – “Black Twitter.”
You have a bunch of arrogant, feral, ignorant racists who got a thing for whites and try and pretend they’re suffering Jim Crow to hide that rather obvious hatred. They lie, engage in racial incitement and never stop for one day. Naive authors and other celebrities brought up in sheltered middle class life styles where they never met a black person buy into their oppression bullshit and give it credence and institutional support. These racists are too dumb to understand how law works and have never used the phrase “I don’t know what happened.” That’s because they always know what happened – whites are at the bottom of everything because they’re white.
From listening to these people you’d think they were living in a gulag. Their Twitter feeds read like journalists in a war zone. Most often, they are bitter people with no lives or interesting worldly experience to draw on who are more like the comic denizens of a Dogpatch trailer park than people who’ve settled revolutions in Spain.
One of the leaders of this movement is a hair stylist with about 300,000 Tweets. Her hatred of whites is so profound it’s incredible, and yet you have authors retweeting her garbage like she’s Solomon. It’s hate speech – that’s all it is.
The trouble is Twitter gives these shaming witchhunters real-time and instant contact with anyone else on Twitter – university presidents, movie stars, gov’t agencies, the whole nine yards – and these racists exploit that. Twitter is the greatest platform for nobodies with mental health issues to be somebody ever invented. In antique times they stood on boxes in a public square covered in their own filth and declared themselves their own religion..

I love it when a liberal issues one of their “fact” lectures, like “you need to get the facts!” or “facts are inconvenient things!” They deliver these lines with no sense of irony whatsoever, a complete lack of self-awareness you rarely see outside an insane asylum.
March 19th, 2015 @ 10:13 am
What astonishes me, as a foreigner, is this:
The US mainstream media is deliberately inciting riots.
Even the most cravenly leftwing media whores of Europe don’t do this. Oh yes, they’ll gleefully ignore inconvenient truths, or smear people and institutions as “racist”, but not deliberately stoke racial violence against white people in general and policemen in particular.
In China, they’d be rounded up and shot. In Saudi Arabia they’d be flogged or beheaded. In France they’d be jailed for inciting racial hatred.
I realise you have the First Amendment in the US, but isn’t there something you can do about “journalists” who egg on looting, arson and murder?
I’d be inclined to withdraw all police protection from them, and let the disgruntled mobs in Ferguson and elsewhere know that the police won’t be on the scene to hold the hands of media people. I’m sure many teachable moments would ensue.
March 19th, 2015 @ 10:22 am
You labeled your comment “snark” but it didn’t make me laugh. Nothing is unthinkable with Obama.

Something could be done, but nothing will be. Charges of “Inciting to riot” are available, however.
March 19th, 2015 @ 10:53 am
That is, alas, all too true.
March 19th, 2015 @ 10:54 am
Kinda like the Religion of Pieces®.
March 19th, 2015 @ 11:18 am
Did Mr. Capehart write any articles perpetuating any of these myths that he now admits are false?
If so, when will he be making reparations to the folks whose homes and businesses were devastated by the riots that he helped to foment?
March 19th, 2015 @ 12:35 pm
All of the people pushing this preposterous narrative believe they’re the continuation of the changeling ”movement” from the sixties. The goal is of course power and money. Since the sixties riots, trillions have been thrown at ”roots of the problem”. If the media were castigated let alone prosecuted they wont’t come out next time and push the narrative. Pushing the narrative is increasingly difficult with ever diminishing returns. The goal is to open up the spigots. This requires White sympathy and or White guilt, both in increasingly short supply. The politicians gain power, the academics and their studies. the NGOs and the race hucksters all get their skim, but only if there is more money thrown at the problem.
March 19th, 2015 @ 12:39 pm
The answer is: Capehart actively promoted the completely false narrative.
And he will do the same next time.

What is often hard to understand from the outside is that many, perhaps most, of these leftists are completely sincere. However, they don’t use the word “fact” the way empiricists do. When a leftist says “fact,” they mean a widely shared belief rather than an objectively verifiable piece of information. It’s a very different system of epistemology.
I can’t help but grin when I get accused of being unscientific when I point out that the global warming models do not fit the actual data.
March 19th, 2015 @ 1:53 pm
The best things we can do about these so-called “journalists” (short of tar&feathering, time in the stocks, or a good old fashioned horse whipping) is to not patronize their outlets (depriving them of income, shutting them eventually), and calling them out on their lies.
The former is very slow, and takes a long time (assuming some rich liberal a**hole doesn’t bail them out). The latter is of very limited effectiveness, as these so-called “journalists” have no shame.
March 19th, 2015 @ 1:55 pm
Capehart is certainly being careful and hedging as much as possible (“hardest piece I’ve ever had to write,” etc.), but it’ll be interesting to see if his dissent is tolerated, or if the left makes an example of him. Although, at this point, the damage is done, so it might not matter. In fact, he may have intentionally waited until now to publish this article, so the left can say, “Look, we admit Brown was guilty!” — after the fact.
March 19th, 2015 @ 2:11 pm
It is illegal to incite riots here too. Keep in mind though that the national attorney general is among the inciters, then consider why no charges are being pressed.
March 19th, 2015 @ 2:54 pm
Oh, they pounced.
March 19th, 2015 @ 3:11 pm
No. The First Amendment isn’t just a law; it’s a love. We might — might — be able to make an argument for abridging the 1A rights of those that attack it, but it would come down to which tack would do more harm to our beloved.
(I say that as an Oregonian, where our state constitution goes a step further and protects freedom of expression, which is awkward for those communities that would rather not have strip clubs or naked bike rides. And yet even the conservatives aren’t trying to change it.)
We use words to fight words, violence to fight violence, and should never cross the streams.

It’s only illegal in the abstract theoretical sense. What the law really means is it’s OK to riot if it’s for the right victim group. It doesn’t matter who’s in government either. One encourages the rioters the other is afraid of what the other side thinks of them.
March 19th, 2015 @ 3:59 pm
Isn’t violence expressive?
March 19th, 2015 @ 4:00 pm
It’s worse.
They feel that they can replace “institutionalized white racism” with institutionalized black racism.
Yes, one is in quotes.
March 19th, 2015 @ 4:16 pm
Some of the protesters threw rocks at Chris Hayes of PMSNBC last summer. Perhaps a hashtag campaign is in order.
March 19th, 2015 @ 4:53 pm
Yes, but so is not getting hit. I’m very expressive of that. (But the same protections would presumably apply to shooting ranges and MMA matches, if anyone objected.)

What’s so hard about throwing away the idea over 200 million whites (except the “good” ones) are indifferent to the suffering of people unless they’re white? That’s what that foul #BlackLivesMatter means.
That’s what the silly #NotAllMen means for the addled feminists.
I have a hashtag for these morons: #Law. At his age Capehart is only now figuring out he’s part of a black KKK that uses dehumanizing rhetoric against whites? Next week, he’ll have a piece about a nifty idea of his: the Mill of Rights.

[…] noted here in relation to the Ferguson Riots in the United States, it was the propagation of a series of lies […]
March 20th, 2015 @ 1:15 am
How about #PeopleArePeople. I’m still trying to wrap my head around a moron only figuring out so late in life that he’s been involved in dehumanizing racial rhetoric no different from Nazi beer gardens. Meanwhile, who pays for 2 dead cops and two others shot because these fools swallowed the phrase “I don’t know what happened.” They’re still saying Trayvon Martin was murdered and Zimmerman white, essentially altering the nature of reality itself to bring them to their loved place where whites suck.
March 20th, 2015 @ 1:49 am
Great, the damage has been done, Ferguson is a burnt out shell, people have lost half their property values but it’s all right now because Capehart figured out it was all based on lies.
Bullsh!t. Capehart doesn’t get to wash his hands and saunter away after a muttered “Oops, my bad.” There’s nothing noble or heroic in him now admitting that the chaos he fomented was a big “oopsie.”
These people are evil. They do not get a pass. Police nationwide have targets pasted on their backs, and Capehart was gleefully cheering it on. Communities are balanced on a racial knife edge, and Capehart wanted that too. It won’t be repaired by some mealy mouthed pretense at nobility, nor by some smug Starbucks barista scrawling on a cup.
March 20th, 2015 @ 5:10 am
You, sir, have said it, and said it perfectly.
Thank you for that.

Standard libtard academic behavior. Were I the student, I would take the email to the Dean, if no satisfaction, there to the Provost then President. If I still didn’t get any satisfaction, I’d sue the college and the instructor, the Dean, Provost and President. Until it costs personally, the behavior will not stop.
I hope the student saved the email.

Well, they saved his. Turns out he may be a mental case.

Anyone who bothered to check the fact know this whole thing was a lie long ago btw. It took him only ONLY a report by Holder to believe it. What information was there that wasn’t in the grand jury decision, that I’m sure he called outrageous?.
Oh, and who remembers the white guy who was beat into a coma by a bunch of black guys sue to him being white and coming into their bar when they were about the whole Brown thing?. What was of him?. #whitelivesmatter?
