The Old Rebel dropped into Charlotte, NC to cover the Victims of Communism Day protest against those zany ‘Zonies who fetish security, the rule of law, and meaningful borders.

As I started to leave, I remarked to one of the orange-vested organizers that unlike other pro-immigrant rallies I’d seen, there were few Mexican flags displayed — almost all the flags were American flags.
“That’s because that’s their flag,” she replied.

As long as they are legally here, we should respect their right to patriotic dissent. That they often fail to reciprocate, while il-liberal, isn’t cause to attempt to silence them.

    I’m sure that the large majority of illegals would be quite happy to consider themselves Norte Americano. But in LA, partcularly with International Answer advising and enrolling them the Mex flags were out in force when Bush was in office. In fact, up until a few months ago, there were pickup trucks in my neck of the woods proudly carrying the symbol of the Republica de Mexico flying high.

    The bottom line is that the communist groups who have made big inroads in this group figure this is their chance to get a huge leftist voting block in place via a general amnesty followed by the new and easy citizenship tests.

    Illegals should be given some kind of legal status, but they shouldn’t be able to go to the front of the line for citizenship. They should be forced to place their names in the legal immigrant waiting lists and then granted full immigrant status when their number comes up.

    But first, the anchor baby method needs to be outlawed. This country is now too crowded to accept everyone who happens get born here. That is a concept from a period when oil was cheep and land was nearly free.

    First border control.
    Then jail time for employers of illegals.
    Then repeal the anchor baby law
    then amnesty with citizenship only granted via the normalization of immigration status.

    Applying the mass-media Tea Party Crowd Estimation protocols, I would say approximately 47 people showed up in Los Angeles…

    While I can’t speak to the national origin of the Hispanics in Charlotte, from my experience the largest single group in the Raleigh area are from Honduras in the DC area the largest group are El Salvadoran.

    The Stars and Stripes are a PR strategy, mandated by the organizers, to make the marchers seem friendly & patriotic & reduce visibility of counter protesters, who always carry American flags. Past years’ displays of the Mexican flag were found counterproductive in generating sympathy for the cause.

    Of interest this year was the new instruction to BYO own trash bags and carry away any waste. I guess the Tea Parties have set a new standard of decorum. 🙂

    The marches are organized by a coalition of groups, quietly led by the Institute For Mexicans Abroad (IME), an agency of the Mexican government that operates out of local consulates.
