This is probably another one of those things we’re not supposed to notice. From 2008:

And now, we have:

A Letter To Iowans From Senator Bob Dole

On January 3, Caucus For Mitt Romney And Get America Back To Work.
An Open Letter to the Voters of Iowa
[UPDATE: The optical character recognition had made a mess of the endorsement letter. Please follow the URL above to the PDF.]
Senator Bob Dole

Paid for by Romney for President, Inc.

M i t t R o m n e y. c o m

Personally, I don’t care for Mitt or Newt.

As far back as I can remember, I’ve had a favorite primary candidate by now. None of them got the nomination, and one quit between the time I cast my absentee ballot and the primary (grr!), but I had my mind made up.

I can’t say that this year, and from what I can tell, I’m not alone.

As in NASCAR, it’s more often the guy who runs consistently second or third throughout who gets the championship.

Willard Mitt turned me off with his over-sharp elbows against Huckabee and McCain last time (no, not my candidates then), and as you can see above, he had no problem swinging them around for collateral damage. He hasn’t really convinced me he’s different this time around – even though I would vote for him in the general. I will accept his candidacy, but I don’t think be enthusiastic about it.

Stacey, that letter is unreadable at least on your site, with roughly every 3rd letter missing.

There is something really disordered about this guy.

    He’ll say anything.

For over six long years, this guy has been on some morbid quest to glorify himself.  It’s not about any cause for Romney, {at least that whack job Paul is earnest in his kookiness}.

With Romney, it’s all about him.

Gingrich pushes ideas.  Has been doing so for most of his existence.  He can’t help himself.  Even his historical novels are counterfactual “what ifs.”

    But Romney?

And he’s dragooned his whole family into this Grail quest of his.  What kind of woman married to a guy like that wouldn’t rein him, wouldn’t help him snap back to reality?

What kind of family and people are they!

    They’re all over the place.

But NR will never grace its cover with some caricature of their sainted Mormon.

But hey, I got it wrong.   It’s NOT that they’re “for” him, it’s just that they’re “against” Gingrich.  Yea, that’s their story.

The problem I have with Romney is not really with Romney, but with the media setting us up to nominate him and THEN bring out the knives on Bain, Mormanism, etc…  The “Known Unknowns” as @LegInsurrection:disqus  calls them.

    Yea, I understand your point.

But then there is the fact that Romney, and his whole clan, are all on board with it.

Just think about it, the wife, the kids, they’re ALL ON BOARD watching Mitt be rammed down the GOP’s throat.

So what does that say about them?

As for the media, ———- when Romney secures teh nomination, but not before, we’re going to know more about the history and the quirks of Mormonism than any of us ever wanted to know.

And the Mormon and his family aren’t remotely prepared for what will surely come.

    God help us!

They’re against anybody that might threaten their hold over the GOP party apparatus, and they’re for anybody that won’t. Why do you think they spent so much time promoting-

Jeb Bush, Mitch Daniels, Tim Pawlenty, Chris Christie, Paul freakin’ Ryan even, and now back to Jeb Bush again. (Just wait and see, you’re going to hear about his recent Wall Street Journal opinion piece until you have the main points memorized and spewing them in your sleep).

They are desperate to have a candidate who will put a stop to those nasty Tea Party people taking control of their party. They dislike Gingrich not because he is a Tea Party conservative, but because they know Gingrich is crafty enough to seize the reins of the Tea Party and use it to purge the GOP of their influence.

Which is why he’s my second choice after Bachmann, the one and only real Tea Party conservative in the race.

Now NR has a “hold over the party apparatus”?

You’re as nutty as Smitty, you guys should include allergy warnings.

    Paul “earnest”?  Sucker!

He’s deceived his minions for decades on his earmarking and pork barreling, slipped accountability for his ties to racist organizations, continues to flirt with Alex Jones conspiracy nuts, claims to be for immigration control now but spent his entire career touting the advantages of “open borders.”

That’s for starters.  Paul is the most two-faced lying piece of crap in the field by a long shot.

Wow, you mean a politician who criticized someone for endorsing an opponent happily accepts the person’s endorsement in a later race?

Stop the presses, this has NEVER happened before.
