Breitbart Party Voodoo

Posted on | April 11, 2010 | 26 Comments

“Best photo ever!” Lyndsey Fifield exclaimed after seeing this photo of a conversation at Friday’s New Orleans blogger bash off Chartres Street near the levee:

Lyndsey reacts to Breitbart’s remark — a Tulane alumnus, Breitbart was confirming that New Orleans voodoo is a reality — as Dave Weigel of the Washington Post and political operative Zach Oldham stare in stunned amazement. The conversation continued as Breitbart made several bizarre gestures, their symbolism only understood by the Tulane voodoo cult:

Because I didn’t take notes of the conversation, I cannot confirm that Breitbart was actually performing a voodoo ritual meant to endow cult inductees with online mojo.

Breitbart, Lyndsey and GOP New Media strategist Ali Akbar, who seriously covets the Tulane voodoo secrets. Of course, I don’t believe in voodoo and laughed when Breitbart told me that the mojo has been known to perform strange transformations on Bourbon Street — even in broad daylight.

Oldham snapped this photo Sunday morning in the French Quarter, and claims that it shows a well-known voodoo victim. But you can’t believe that kind of crazy stuff on the Internet . . .

After the Saints-Redskins game last fall, a Saints fan explained to me how he and other fans applied New Orleans voodoo at crucial times in the game, such as to make the Redskins miss an easy 15-yard field goal that would have clinched the game. He showed me the exact gestures, holding his fingers out in front of him with crossed Vs so as to block out the player he was intending to jinx. The voodoo seemed to have really worked, but leaves open the question of why the voodoo didn’t work for the 35+ previous years, and why it didn’t work against the Cowboys a few games later.

Robert Stacy McCain, you need to edit your article over on American Spectator and fix it. Katrina didn’t hit in 2006 as you suggest, but in August, 2005. Embarrassing in light of the fact that you are in New Orleans. Otherwise, a great article.

I recently had to correct a feral-gummint meteorologist who thought Katrina was 2004.
