Journalist Says She Was Molested in Custody by Egyptian ‘Security’ Forces

Is this a logical sequel to the “Arab Spring”?

The US-based Egyptian journalist Mona Eltahawy has been released, according to her personal Twitter account, after 12 hours in detention at the hands of Cairo security forces. A later tweet from the account @monaeltahawy said that she was sexually and physically assaulted while being held inside the interior ministry in Cairo, in the early hours of Thursday morning. . . .
At 10:30am on Thursday, the former Reuters Middle East correspondent who has been lauded for her recent coverage of the Egyptian uprising, began tweeting that she had spent 12 hours in detention under the authority of interior ministry and military intelligence officials and that she had suffered a serious sexual assault by up to half a dozen members of the Egyptian security forces. She also said that she had been kept blindfolded for hours and also posted a picture of her severely bruised hand and then both her arms in casts.

    Look I’m not one to blame the victim but seriously here.  Wasn’t there a rather famous example of a Western female journalist who nearly got gang-raped in Egypt regardless that there were men there that were supposed to protect her?  In a perfect world a woman could be anywhere and be safe.  Even in the midst of chaos.  That’s the argument pushed by a number of younger feminist women I know and evidently reality has no sway over them.

    But we’re talking about Egypt.  It’s backwards, unruly, bankrupt morally and fiscally and really pretty uneducated.  In short.  It’s Arab.  It’s muslim.  It’s a dirty asshole of the Earth of which there are far too many.  And disappearing from Egypt and never being seen again except on the back of a milk carton is frankly a pretty serious possibility.

    If I were her I’d get out now.  She’s pretty obviously pissed someone off and that’s very likely due to the story she was involved in with the half-naked girl.  The hardliners in Egypt don’t have a sense of humor and any restrictions they may have operated under in the past are long since gone.

    If she isn’t thinking “shallow unmarked grave” then perhaps she should and get out now.

    IMO the reality is that Egypt is heading for a major crash and many people can see that.  A major source of income is tourism but what tourist in their right minds would go there?  In any event Egypt has enough cash to last perhaps 3-5 months.  Maybe more if the other Arab countries pony up the cash.  Maybe less of nobody does.  But unlike a lot of other countries the cash Egypt needs is to buy _food_. 

    Food in Egypt is subsidized by the government and the government is running out of money.  This is why the hardliners are going to win the political battle while the pro-democracy guys will be wearing headstones soon.  With the subsidized food the masses in Egypt will pretty much go nuts and all hell will break loose.

    An alternative would be for the Egyptian Army to invade Libya.  Libya has oil, resources, hundreds of billions in money.  It also doesn’t have an army, government or even a ruling coalition.  It’s overrun by weapons dealers, terrorists, militias, pro-Ghaddafi idiots and general raising-some-mayhem guys.  If Egypt were to invade we, and Europeans, would probably thank them for finally cleaning up that mess that is approaching critical mass.

    But in any event the last place I’d want to be is in Egypt.  When it goes pop it’s anybody’s guess what will happen.

    At first glance, I thought this was going to be a TSA story.
    I did a post awhile back where former undersec. of State, Ann-Marie Slaughter praised the Arab Spring as having accomplished as much in 6  months as in 30 years of diplomacy. 
    One things for sure, these destabilization campaigns aren’t what we’re being led to believe. The freaking clip art is the same as the OWS bunch.

    I have my doubts about this. It would take a pretty profound level of blind stupidity for Egyptian military personnel to do this to a journalist. It doesn’t quite pass the smell test when you consider the extent to which the military is under the gun by the “pro-democracy” movement, and it’s worth pointing out the artist in question this journalist supported happens to be a supporter of that movement, according to her Twitter account. And why would they “try” to stick her hands down her pants, and the other things she accused them of, but then just let her go? Evidently without raping her, or without questioning her as to her motives and affiliations? I’m sorry, I just don’t buy this horseshit. You have to be very cautious when dealing with these so-called “pro-democracy” Arabs, every bit as much as the Islamists, for the simple fact most of the “pro-democracy” contingent are hard-core socialists who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals, which amounts to a Pan-Arab socialist state. In other words, they share the same goals as the Islamist radicals they all too frequently and willingly fall in with.

    Woman accuses GOP politician? Woman (actually women) is attention whore making up allegations because all women secretly hate men and only say these things to get money and attention.

    Woman accuses those damned dirty Muslims? Why, she’s a journalist and of course would never lie or say anything that isn’t true, and it’s terribly to insinuate that she would say such a thing just to get money and attention.
