If I was Mr. Cain, I’d be all:

“Yeah, we’ll unseal them. . .right after the good President unseals his academic records. Heyooo!”

    What amused me was when one of the authors of the Politico hit piece refused to divulge what the precise nature of the accusation were supposed to be.  The response to questioning; “Hermain Cain has to set the record straight”.

    That’s amazingly pathetic.

      This would require the cooperation of the National Restaurant Association and the original complainants;  not just Herman Cain
    Both could have good reason not to do so. The Association may feel  it could  inspire nuisance suits and the complainants  may feel it could  harm their careers.

    The person(s) who were the source for this story have already violated the agreements. Their ploy to gain ‘forgiveness’ for this has no apparent upside for Cain or the NRA.

    Egad, Brian Williams is turning up on CNN now, too? I deliberately avoid NBC news and, increasingly, NBC entertainment programming, where Brian Williams pops up with distressing regularity. I don’t watch MSNBC and thus far have also been lucky enough to miss any Brian Williams appearances on CNBC, if he visits their studios.

    But I do get trapped in airports from time to time, waiting for connecting flights, now that there are no direct international flights to St. Louis from anywhere on Earth any more. CNN is always on there, with no means for anyone to change the channel. If Brian Williams is going to be on CNN all the time now too, Amtrak may get another look.

    Well, you are assuming it was one of the principals, which is not necessarily the case.  Politico still hasn’t produced any details of the allegations, which makes me believe they don’t have them – which they probably would if the accusers were their anonymous sources.

    More likely would be a friend of one of the accusers, or someone who worked at NRA at the time but not high enough to be privy to the details.

    Brian Williams is a leftist idiot.  I always turn off any show which features him, and carefully avoided his scheduled shows.  He follows in the footsteps of Brokaw, who was the first “news” man in the TV biz who didn’t come from print experience, but fit the new paradigm:  pretty boy with deep Midwestern accent, television background.

    It’s a stupid suggestion.  There needs to be an overriding legal reason to unseal a record – like Obama needs dirt on an opponent.  There is no reason either to assume all parties would agree or even that they should.

    I like asking for Obama’s transcripts first, though.  It should shut ’em up, and reminds everyone of the pass he received on the vetting.

    Yea…no way should  Herman Cain do that.
     

    He should now keep his responses to this issue to 2 sentences or less. 

    When asked about the unsealing the records…he should just say that is a legal matter that is being left to his lawyer (hopefully JD Gordon and Mark Block are reading this blog).

    Nothing good could come from unsealing the records.  It just causes this all to continue.

    It seems, thet at most, the allegations are going to be that a drunk Herman Cain asked a lady up to his room.  Honestly, I could care less about that….particularly since it probably isn’t true….and if it is true….well….I still don’t care.

    Time to wrap up this issue by the end of the week (in fact, even if the Cain camp does get Romney’s fingerprints…they should let it go…if the story settles down by the end of the week…just keep that in the war chest…for now…).

    In the post above this one a suspect is indicated. At any rate there is no upside I can see for Cain or the NRA to release the any of the parties from the agreement. Cain has got his side of the story (after some struggle) out there. Politico’s assertion that it’s his responsibility to set the record straight is nonsense. That one of the plaintiffs has an attorney demanding his client have the right to speak citing Cain’s statements has little standing. In theory this story is about Cain and not about the two womym. It might even be possible (I’m spitballing here) to have the agreement made public with all names but HC redacted and still not give the two plaintifs a waiver. Giving them that waiver only allows them to hit the TV circuit and tell whatever embellishments they choose. If they are willing to lie that puts HC in the possition of having to prove a negative which he appearently did in the 90s but couldn’t do now.

    Cain is smack in the middle of a shit sandwich. If he refuses to (or CAN’T, because NRA doesn’t want to) unseal those settlement records, that will be gamed as “obviously he has / they have a reason for not wanting us to know what’s in there.” If he does and there’s something more in there than even his constantly changing story has revealed, he’s screwed. And if there isn’t, that “something more” will likely be added by post-unsealing embellishment by the alleged victims.

    At this point, though, I’ve added a suspect to my list on who brought this story out. At first I thought either Perry or Bachmann (and the CfWA pile-on seemed to point to a Bachmann op). Now I’m thinking it may very well have been Cain himself — better to get it out now, while he’s on top and with several weeks to do damage control before Iowa, than to have it come out, say, next October.

    I suspect that it’s not Obama — or at least not only Obama — who’s keeping Obama’s academic records under wraps. To the extent that they might compromise details of  his probable career as a US intelligence operative from his Occidental days onward — and especially if they indicate that some of that work was illegal domestic surveillance of e.g. Ayers, ACORN et. al — Langley may have a thing or two to say about it.

    You are correct about post-unsealing embellishment. Plaintive #1’s name will be out shortly. HC has nothing to gain by allowing the records to be unsealed tho if he can assert it’s not his call that will help a great deal. The Winston Smith Media and the left will shriek but everyone needs a hobby, let em. The presses “right to know” is vastly over-hyped they only have a right to try to find out.

    Look, I’m not saying that Cain is necessarily on the rocks here. I’m just saying it’s definitely more lemon than lemonade for him.

    But the more I think about it, the more it just screams “Bachmann oppo research strike.”

    It well could be an act of desperation on the Bachmann camp, but don’t discount Romney.  I’ve watched him and his people at work up here in the Nor’East since the mid-Nineties and, underneath that Dash Riprock exterior, is a dirty player.

    I might be wrong, but I don’t think Bachmann has enough depth in her organization to be able to do any kind of comprehensive op research that would be capable of coming up with something like this. And the idea that Cain did it himself seems ludicrous to me. If it was anybody it would probably be either Romney or Perry. Or, of course, Obama, who would have access to the kinds of sources who could dig up anything or anybody. Which if true, we’ll probably never find out.
