Downgrading America

Big Government links The Hill with a poll saying over 2/3 of voters say America is in decline.
Meanwhile, HotAir brings the new RNC ad going after BHO for his bus tour in NC and VA:
Got news for BHO about the Commonwealth: the impending VA election will likely be as savory to him as Momar Qaddafi’s last breakfast was to the recently departed.

Amidst all the doom and gloom about decline, let us draw an important distinction. America, itself, and by that I mean the founding Enlightenment ideals of the country, are the permanent political priapism. The country is substantially fine. We just have to get back to the substance. The only thing saggy in these parts is the nanny state tit of the Progressivism, which has so completely run out of other peoples’ money that it can’t mooch more money to buy bigger bustiers that can contain it all.

The GOP keeps threatening to show consciousness of the Tea Party disdain for the Ruling Class nonsense of the last century. And then we get a Mitt Romney as the anointed front-runner. I can safely predict, in the case of a Romney nomination and election, an Andy Warhol honeymoon for the man. Roughly 15 minutes after the oath of office, the Tea Party would be scrolling over Romney like repetitive speeches on BHO’s teleprompter. This American downgrade/decline is unacceptable.

    If Romney is nominated and by some chance elected the decline will slow at best, it certainly won’t stop let alone reverse. Whatever the question is Romney is not the answer.

    Absolutely no individual leader is the answer. #WeCantWait for the Second Coming of Washington. We The People have to become the answer.

    You are correct that there are no George Washingtons or even Ronald Reagans out there, however replacing Lenin with Kerensky isn’t going to help either.

    I wish I could be as optimistic, but the facts indicate otherwise.

    “America,” like any other nation, is the product of its people and their traditions, not a set of abstractions. And “the people” are increasingly from the Third World, which guarantees an increasingly socialistic government. (Next time there’s an amnesty rally, count the number of Che shirts and banners.)

    Add to that reality the spiraling debt, and it’s pretty clear the future’s so bright …

    Mexico is the way it is because of Mexicans. The US is corrupt country because its people are corrupt and lazy.

    Like it or not, the corruption we see in the government is a reflection of the people of the US.

    And yet, more people are identifying themselves as conservatives and fewer as Democrats and liberals than ever before.  The rise of the Tea Party showed the Silent Majority is capable of making themselves heard. 

    America’s best have never gone into government or politics.  They pursued excellence in private endeavors.  The problem is we failed to notice the degree to which government grew in power and influence, and the mediocre people who choose that life now have a disproportionate influence on the country.

    Our salvation may indeed lie not in the Republicans of their own volition, but because the path of least resistance is finally blocked:  we’ve run out of money.  People will do the right thing when every other possible choice is taken from them.

    As to decline, Merrill Lynch has already called another downgrade “when” the Super Committee fails to adopt a credible plan by the end of the year.  Moody’s and/or Fitch will follow S&P, and the rating may fall further still.  The only thing keeping our interest costs down is the fact that Europe is in even worse shape, having gotten a head start on us down the progressive path.

    In the case you refer to no Kerensky could have replaced Lenin but if that were possible Stalin would still have replaced Lenin after Kerensky. The Kerensky in this tale is Romney. When the country continues to fail on his watch there still won’t be any George Washintons but there will be plenty of Stalins. Kerenskys inevitably lead to Stalins whether there is an intervening Lenin or not.

    The success of the Tea Party is exaggerated, many of the congressional newcomers never really were TP candidates in the first place. Renee “Rock Star” Ellmers is an excellent example. How many of the newbies are being primaried? For better or worse redistricting is tamping down the desire to for new faces entering races in already Republican districts. Even the Tea Partiers seem less committed to the radical changes that are a minimum requirement for turning this country around. Fred Thompson said this a few months ago “the Tea Party sent representatives to congress to cut spending and change Washington, either we meant it or we didn’t”.
