Who Said It? July 14: ‘I No Longer See a Path to Victory for Herman Cain’

Posted on | October 10, 2011 | 65 Comments

Herman Cain has bottomed out, but still can’t find momentum to get in the air again. …
“If Cain cannot do well in Iowa, he is finished. And with six months to go, Iowa caucus goers are referring to him as a ‘supernova;’ i.e. a great flash of brightness soon to go dark. There are only around 125,000 caucus goers in Iowa. And many of those who were going to go with Cain are now going to Bachmann or waiting for someone else. He’s losing staff in Iowa and New Hampshire.
I no longer see a path to victory for Herman Cain.”

I’d never seen that quote before, but it’s featured in today’s “Day by Day” cartoon:

Click the picture to see the whole strip. Just in case you were wondering what I was up to at that time: On July 17, I covered a Herman Cain fundraising event in Bethesda, Maryland — and drank Flying Dog ale with Cain’s campaign manager, Mark Block:

Thank you for spelling “douchebag” correctly. Can you give the OWS crowd a lesson? I saw one guy spell it “deuschbag”. Is that German?

    Funny.

That’s EXACTLY what Palin said in that “flavor of the week” comment, which the media AND CAIN have misinterpreted continually.

She said he’s apparently “the flavor of the week FOR THE MSM who are treating the GOP nomination as a sort of reality TV show and building up flavors of the week so they can then tear them down.”

That’s in quotes even though it’s not an exact quote. But it is the gist of what she said.

    And she was right.

    Again.

    Tragic she’s not running now.

However, if Romney remains unacceptable to the base. As does a properly vetted Cain, who may indeed be for sale to Romney and the GOP – see NRO today – then we may end up with a brokered convention.

    And Palin could emerge.

She told Hannity a few weeks ago:

“Mark my words, this is going to be an unconventional election cycle.”

    So far it isn’t.

If the above scenario happens, it would be.

If you assume Erickson is being paid by hi publishers to say intelligent things, and reliably make accurate predictions, then given his body of ‘work’ there is no rational explanation for his continued employment at RedState.

Of course, that initial assumption might be highly suspect.

Maybe someone should explain to Erik that since he’s not really doin’ the pimpin’ it is quite likely he is somewhat lower on the company roster.

It is not the sales tax, in and of itself, that is the problem.  It is that the plan involves both a sales tax and an income tax.

On or the other – and only via Constitutional amendment – thank you very much.

The redhead in a fedora and nothing else.

But I think Muir is afraid of what it might do to Stacy’s heart.

This is a pretty spot-on description of RedState.  Being a multi-headed beast, many of the simple descriptions of there just simply don’t work well.  There are a few there that are good, a few there that are knowledgeable about some things but who end up coming off as insufferable prats when they get outside their area of expertise, and a few that need to be told that they’re flaming way above their pay grade and that they should cut it out already.

In particular, streiff needs to be told by someone to Settle The Fuck Down.  He’s the one that flamed Michelle Malkin like she was a n00b, and is now flaming Herman Cain for not liking Rick Perry.  He’s so far in the tank for Perry that he should be getting a piece of that $17 million Perry has in the bank.

[…] Conservatives are looking for a candidate to rally behind. A month ago, Rick Perry was that man. Now conservatives are split between Rick Perry and Herman Cain. Our buddy Robert Stacy McCain got a nice mention in Day By Day today for sticking with Herman Cain back when others wrote Herman Cain off. […]

So he should dump the cornerstone of his platform…

    I can’t even say “that’s a great idea”, sarcastically.
I really tried too. but, after the fourth override by my commonsense, I just gave up on being a smart azz about it.
