“Whaddaya mean ‘the time’? I was his favorite car. He was here as a little boy, and always came back here after his tours to blow off some steam. Of course, after Family Style, his time, like ours, came to a halt.”

    “I not only have proof that God exists, I have proof that He loves us and wants us to be happy,” said the believer.

    “Oh yeah?” sneered the skeptic. “What are those, pray tell?!?”

    The believer responded, “Chili peppers, sweet fruits, women’s stockings, and blues music.”

    And the skeptic ran away crying…

    We walked gingerly around the worst of the muck. The rain had stopped but the air remained heavy. I called out to my partner, “where’s the body?”

    He kept his eyes down. “Behind the fence, near the tree.”

    “What was this place?”

    “Amusement park. Hurricane Irene clobbered it. Never re-opened.” He paused. “Good place to hide a body.”

    “Yeah,” I replied. “Good place. Any ID?”

    “Nothing. Blonde, female, short. That’s all we have.”

    I sighed. “Like the others?”

    My partner looked at me and glared. “Like the others. Why do you think they called us?”

    Why indeed.
