If We Can Beat Barbara Mikulski . . .
Posted on | July 13, 2010 | 49 Comments
. . . we can beat anybody:
Maryland has a fiscal conservative Republican candidate who can win the race in November for U.S. Senate against Democrat incumbent Barbara Mikulski and his name is Jim Rutledge. . . .
If Jim Rutledge wins the Republican primary election on Sept. 14, HE is the candidate who can beat Barbara Mikulski in the general election on Nov. 2.
Cynthia Yockey provides this video of Rutledge’s speech at the July 3 Tea Party in Bel Air, Maryland:
If he’s good enough for Cynthia, he’s good enough for me!
UPDATE: Rutledge will have a happy hour meet-and-greet Thursday at the Dark Horse Tavern in Bel Air. And while Cynthia is most impressed with Rutledge’s economic conservative message, let’s point out that he’s also solid on the Second Amendment and he also believes in the “unalienable” Right to Life.
UPDATE II: What does Rutledge need? A real P.R. genius:
Click here and re-Tweet that message. If Sarah Palin endorses Rutledge, that’s game, set, match in the GOP primary.

Do we know this Rutledge guy? Isn’t he a US Rep or a former Rep?
Also, what are the current polls on this race? Anyone have any idea what the over-under is, and how they have come to the conclusion?
I want to be sure of things before I send off money.

I certainly think Rutledge is up to the task. The problem? He’s up against a terrible candidate in the primary who’s loaded. Here’s my article detailing why Wargotz is terrible. If you’re interested in reading the Jewish Times interview, send me an email.

In politics, I don’t think that way. If you only ever bet on sure things, you’re surrendering the initiative to the incumbents, the establishment and the MSM. Determine your goal — victory — and then figure out how to make it happen.
Those who dare, do. Those who never dare, never do.

Rutledge isn’t a politician – he’s a concerned citizen ready to fight an entrenched incumbent.
I’ve only seen one poll out of MD for the US Senate race. That was by Rasmussen that just came out with Wargotz. They might as well have polled Mikulski against “Random Republican” with how little name recognition any of the candidates have at this point.

Rutledge ia a constitutional conservative who is running a solid campaign. His main primary opponent is a liberal Republican. Winner takes on Barbara Mikulski. His economic message is on target, strong on national defense, securing the borders, staunch 2nd amendment supporter, and pro-life.

Jeonju –
Visit Rutledge’s web site to see his positions on the issues. He wrote virtually every word himself.
He’s never held elected office before (as far as I know). He is currently the senior partner in a Harford County law firm.

It is possible for the GOP to take House and Senate this year (granted the Senate will be more difficult, but even narrowing the gap matters). But we have to dare to try.

I guess it depends what day of the week one sees Rutledge to know what kind of man he is.
I’ve seen him in his smooth courtroom manner addressing a jury and I’ve seen him as a stark raving lunatic “The beast is out of the cage!!!”
On the other hand I have seen Dr. Wargotz in his very comforting ‘bedside manner’. At no time (3 occassions) has Dr. Wargotz ever expressed regrets about illegals not being included in the healcare bill/law. To the contrary Dr. Wargotz expressed regrets that obama and congress did not address illegal immigration and the IMPACT they have on our healthcare system.
I have to wonder about a candidate who has a ‘come to Jesus’ moment and decides to run for the 2nd highest office in the land with absolutely no record of advocacy either on the state or local levels.
I have seen where Dr. Wargotz has cut taxes, implemented ‘constant yield’ eliminated govt waste and shrank the size of govt.
I’m inclined to say that the last thing Washington needs is another lawyer.

Someone must be confused. Commissioner Dr. Wargotz is the only candidate in the US Senate race in Maryland with a history of cutting taxes twice (constant yield this year), cutting his county budget over 11 million, and increasing government transparency. The Rasmussen poll proves that Maryland voters are complete idiots (58% approval for Mikulski).
Of course, watching election results out of that state for the last several years already informed me.

1. 58% for an entrenched Democrat in July of an election year in a state like Maryland is very poor… and possibly within striking distance.
2. Wargotz is not a liberal… He has been misquoted and you do not place an entire ideology of a person on a few out of context quotes… look at the whole body of work, meet the person and decide…
3. While Rutledge is a constitutional candidate, his message is off for winning a state wide campaign in the People’s Republic of Maryland… In addition, he does not have the money to wage war against Mikulski.
4. My vote will go to Eric Wargotz as the best chance we have to beat Mikulski in November.

I am sticking with Wargotz — at least he has been elected to office before and is not just talking a good game. In real life things are not so black-and-white.
When a campaign resorts to digging up dirt on their opponent rather than focusing on the issues, it speaks volumes about which candidate is out in front.

Maryland is divided into rich federal employees , many of them retired living fat and happy in Montgomery County , entitlment program beneficiaries living in Prince Georges County and most of the other counties as well. Maryland SUCKS and I wish we didn;t live in it. The most business UNFRIENDLY state. There is NFW Mikulski is going to get beat. Mikulski, Cardin, Hoyer VanHollen. These Democrats are leftist to the core and Maryland loves them. Even if Erlich can beat the O’Malley who is being carefully groomed for national purposes the Annpolis State HOuse is totally leftist and corrupt.

Right now Democrats have declined so much in the esteem of likely voters that “Any Republican” has a solid base of support, even in Maryland. Centrist Democrats and independents hold the margin for victory. Jim Rutledge has the fiscal and social principles that can get people excited and create the coalition with centrist Democrats and independents required to beat Sen. Mikulski. His opponent for the nomination, Eric Wargotz, can’t win against Sen. Mikulski but he DOES have enough money to outspend Jim and win the primary. That is why conservative bloggers and conservatives nationally should be checking Jim out NOW, and if they like what they see, and they want another Republican fiscal conservative in the U.S. Senate, AND IT WOULD GIVE THEM JOY TO TAKE IT FROM A LEFTIST THOUGHT TO BE INVINCIBLE, then they should get busy IMMEDIATELY donating money to Jim’s campaign and working to promote him as the right candidate for Maryland. Jim can beat Barbara Mikulski and be a great senator for Maryland. Let’s get busy right now and put our shoulders to his wheel.

Wargotz can not win in the general election. He’s a birther – period (see video for evidence). Any other argument about his electability, self-financing, etc are moot. He’s dead wrong saying he does not believe Obama was born in the United States; his followup comment saying, “I don’t doubt his citizenship or whether he can be President…” is disingenuine at best and not Consitutionally sound if he believes what he claims to believe; and NO BIRTHER CAN WIN ANYWHERE, but especially not in blue Maryland.

To beat Mikulski, Rutledge must first beat Wargotz. Wargotz is confirmed birther. When is Rutledge going to point that out?

[…] “Barbara Mikulski: Too Ugly for Too Long” – but we’ll let that slide. We’ve blogged about Rutledge earlier and so you already know that Jim needs your contributions to help him win the Sept. 14 GOP primary. […]

Mr. Rutledge is for real when it comes to standing up for un-born children. I heard he would be at the March for Life in Annapolis this past spring, I and a group of friends attended the march. As we waited to begin, I turned around and there was Mr. Rutledge. I shook his hand and thanked him for being there and for supporting life for un-born children. He took part in the march, quietly, without calling attention to himself.
Mr. Jim Rutledge is the real deal in my book. I’ve contributed to his campaign and have had his campaign sign in my front yard all spring and summer and his bumper stickers in my car window – up high so people can see them. I’ve been informing all my email friends and church friends about Mr. Rutledge, especially about his pro-life position, all spring and summer.
Please, Maryland, I’m begging you, don’t send Barbara (middle name Planned Parenthood, NARAL and Emily’s List) Mikulski back to D.C. She has been there 25-30 years too long already.
