2017: Everybody’s Guilty

Democrats are now calling for Al Franken to resign from the Senate because he’s been caught acting like a Democrat:
Two prominent members of Minnesota’s Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party are calling on Sen. Al Franken to resign his Senate seat following allegations of sexual misconduct.
Although many other Democrats have called the former comedian’s actions disturbing, state auditor Rebecca Otto and Megan Thomas, president of the party’s official Feminist Caucus, say he should leave office.
The allegations were made Thursday morning by radio host Leeann Tweeden, who said Franken harassed her during a 2006 USO trip to the Middle East, before he was elected to the Senate in 2008.
Tweeden said Franken wrote a play to be performed in front of troops featuring a kiss, and then forced his tongue into her mouth after insisting on practice. A photo also shows a grinning Franken’s hands over Tweeden’s breasts while she was asleep.
Otto, a candidate for governor in Minnesota, said in a statement that “I believe it’s in the best interest of Minnesotans and of women everywhere for Senator Franken to resign, and to set an example to powerful men across America that sexual harassment will not be tolerated.”
Thomas, meanwhile, told the Washington Examiner that Franken’s misconduct was “every woman’s nightmare on a bus.” In a Facebook post, the longtime party organizer wrote that while she appreciated his progressive vote record, the fear Franken will instill in women is enough reason for his departure.
Franken is arguably guilty of infractions less heinous than Bill Clinton’s multiple sexual misdeeds and, of course, Roy Moore was a Democrat in the years when he was allegedly cruising for teenage girls at the Gadsden Mall. These are trivial distinctions, however, in the Salem witch-hunt hysteria of the Sexual Harassment Apocalypse that began with the exposure of Harvey Weinstein’s career as Hollywood’s leading lecher.
All that matters, in this latter-day Salem, is that the accused are male, and any male who ever tried to get laid — or ever made a joke about trying to get laid, or otherwise expressed interest in getting laid — is guilty. Any man who ever made an “unwanted sexual advance” is doomed to destruction, and never mind your silly questions about how he was supposed to know his “advance” was “unwanted” prior to making it.
No mercy! If Academy-award winners and U.S. Senators can be automatically condemned the moment an accusation is made, the ordinary boy who flirts with the ordinary girl — at college or at work or anywhere else — is now on notice that he is at risk of career destruction. Perhaps 20 or 30 years from now, when he has become a successful adult, he’ll be dragged into the court of public opinion for a star-chamber trial, accused of having once winked at a girl and made a bad pun when he was 19. The old game of trying to get to second base on the first date? That’s over. It’s 2017 and male heterosexuality is a crime.
This was what I was warning about back in 2014, when the “campus rape epidemic” hysteria was raging and Emma Sulkowicz was hailed as a feminist icon for carrying a mattress around Columbia University. Paul Nungesser was defamed as a rapist over an unhappy hookup with Sulkowicz two years earlier, and anyone who criticized the unfairness of this situation was condemned as a “rape apologist.” Now, three years later, Hollywood celebrities, liberal journalists and Democrat politicians are being destroyed by this feminist war of vengeance, and why? Because Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, that’s why.
If Hillary had won, perhaps the sins of Al Franken and Harvey Weinstein never would have made headlines, but with Trump as president, feminists needed scapegoats for their boundless rage. A few famous men must therefore be publicly crucified, in order to terrorize the rest and confirm the feminist message that all men are despicable monsters.
We are living through a götterdämmerung, the end of an era that began half a century ago with the “Summer of Love” in San Francisco.
The Winter of Hate is now upon us, and everybody’s guilty.
