#RNCinCLE: No More Bushes

CLEVELAND
The Bush family is “effectively in self-imposed exile,” Jonathan Martin of Politico said on CNN’s midday broadcast, noting that it has been decades since Republicans were Bush-less at their national convention. He said this like it’s a bad thing that Republicans have finally rid themselves of the dynastic dominance of Bushism. It’s as if the GOP presidential nomination is a family heirloom the Bushes pass along from one generation to the next, like grandma’s antique silver service. If they don’t get their way, they take their ball and go home. Not very “party unity” of them.
“That’s their choice,” Ivanka Trump told ABC News. “If they don’t want to be part of the narrative, if they don’t want to be part of the future — that this really is about a forward-looking moment.”
Meanwhile, your Daily Absurd Controversy Update:
“There’s no cribbing of Michelle Obama’s speech,” Manafort told CNN’s Chris Cuomo this morning. “These were common words and values that she cares about her fmaily and things like that. I mean, she was speaking in front of 35 million people last night, she knew that. To think that she would be cribbing Michelle Obama’s words is crazy. I mean, it’s so — I mean, this is, once again, an example of when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton, how she seeks out to demean her and take her down. It’s not going to work.”

Remember, a convention or two back, how Code Pink managed to crash the candidate’s big speech at the Republican convention? They got into the hall, down on the floor, and at (for them) an appropriate moment started screaming and acting like their usual idiot selves.
How could that happen, you ask — don’t you need credentials to get onto the floor? Well yes you do, and as it turns out some delegates had given their credentials to the Pinkers. There were various dissembling stories — credentials were stolen, credentials were given to someone who wasn’t wearing pink, etc. — but the bottom line was that a few Pub delegates didn’t mind having the Pinkers act like fools during the candidate’s big speech. And it never happened at the Democratic convention.
I bring this up because, I suspect, it’s going to happen again, and when it does we shouldn’t be fooled. It’s all staged and organized. Someone on the floor will let the Pinkers in, and the Pinkers will act like idiots.
My hope is that the Trump campaign knows this and will take steps.

The Man from RNCCLE…great series from the 60’s! Robert Vaughn, David McCallum, Leo G. Carroll…classic!

Did Jeb Bush write Melania’s speech?
July 19th, 2016 @ 4:53 pm
Unless Obama is writing about his make believe girl friends or fabricating inspiring stories about his own father, Obama has never written an original word, so what’s the big deal if Melania Trump cadged a few choice phrases from a speech Michelle Obama gave?
I would think if anyone should be upset it’s the flunky who actually created the phrases that Michelle spoke that Melania is supposed to have plagiarized.
July 19th, 2016 @ 6:13 pm
The snippets she supposedly plagiarized were filled with commonplace phrases and sentiments. The Democratic cognoscenti has a helluva lot of brass attempting to pretend there’s anything amiss here and the Republican cognoscenti pretty dumb to fall for it.
Mooch is a capable public speaker, but she seldom if ever says anything with sufficient particularity to be worth stealing, and this is no exception.

The man’s actual faults are voluminous enough without attributing internet rubbish to him.

I don’t think there’s much point in slamming the Bush family. It’s just policy disagreements.
The last mention of them in these precincts saw a mess of contempt being poured on Jeb the point of departure of which was an interview he’d given where he’d offered an autopsy on his campaign. Somehow mentioning that he’d been embarrassed by one of Pope Francis’ publicity capers was transmogrified into Bush blaming Francis for his electoral losses, a sentiment neither stated nor implied by Bush.
George W. Bush did not attend the 2012 Republican convention. He’s a better man than his critics contend, but he’s still regarded ambivalently by the public. Given that his integrity was attacked during the campaign by the current nominee (and gratuitously attacked), I’m not sure why you’d expect him to attend the Trump show.
As for George Bush the Elder, he’s 92 years old and not ambulatory. That he travels anywhere is a surprise and I’d expect him to use his rationed energy to travel to Maine for the summer, not Cleveland.
Why must the ugliest construction on everything they do be offered?
July 19th, 2016 @ 7:20 pm
First rate both the show and your comment.
July 19th, 2016 @ 7:24 pm
The Bushes are the Republican’s Clinton’s only with more class but possibly even worse policies.

Thanks! I just can’t remember the evil organization that they were battling. It was either THRUSH, SMERSH, or the “Clinton Foundation”!
July 19th, 2016 @ 8:50 pm
As I saw elsewhere on the web today, Michelle didn’t write her speech, and Melania didn’t write hers. You want to blame someone, blame the speechwriters who each had to go to the same well.

Agree. Always liked George 41, always appreciated that George 43 was in a tough spot.

Love W., seems like a great guy. Didn’t agree with everything. But I’m just a simple caveman.

What internet rubbish are you referring to? The internet rubbish where Obama admitted that at least one of the girlfriends in one of his autobiographies was a composite? Or the internet rubbish that Obama actually wrote in one of his books about his father?
July 20th, 2016 @ 8:19 am
The worst of the Bushes is better than the best of Trump, IMHO.
July 20th, 2016 @ 8:41 am
No way I can agree on that.
July 20th, 2016 @ 8:42 am
Both betrayed conservatives.
July 20th, 2016 @ 11:29 am
At least they are really Republicans and not leftists plants like the Trump cartel.
July 20th, 2016 @ 11:34 am
The latter. There is nothing deficient about the man’s capacity to offer the world word salads, nor anything deficient about his general intelligence, nor any serious evidence that William Ayers was his ghostwriter.
Ayers himself has since 1984 published 2 or 3 articles a year in various professional venues, some of which purport to be academic journals and some of which are magazines for school teachers. You would be hard put to find a research project worthy of the name reported in any one of them. It’s topical commentary, and that’s likely all he’s capable of producing. He’s a motormouth, and without a doubt a cut below BO as an intellect. He suffered no fall off in productivity during the period running from 1991 to 1994 or from 2002 to 2004, as you might expect if he were working on a book for his pal Barry. He was actually more prolific than his mean during those years.
July 20th, 2016 @ 11:36 am
No. The serial betrayer is Addison Mitchell McConnell.
July 20th, 2016 @ 3:16 pm
The list is long.
July 20th, 2016 @ 3:17 pm
So leftists are really Republicans, eh?
July 20th, 2016 @ 3:27 pm
Trump is a serial liar, on par with the Clintons. The guy who wrote an art of a deal said that all that Trump ever did was lie to people and cheat them.
July 20th, 2016 @ 3:50 pm
I wasn’t implying Ayers wrote Obama’s book. I also was not implying anything about Obama’s intelligence, only about his originality. It would be nice to see his college transcripts, though, and see how they compare to Ted Cruz’s for instance – or even G. W. Bush’s. Maybe someday Obama will release them.
I know very little about Ayer’s post-Weathermen career, but given he is an unapologetic Marxist, how smart can he be?
July 20th, 2016 @ 5:44 pm
You trust Dim voters to be truthful? I’m no Trumpkin, but I’m not going to trust a ghostwriter that is a DimoKKKrap.
July 20th, 2016 @ 6:57 pm
Oh, that’s cute. First you contend he’s ‘never written an original word’, then you deny you were referring to Ayers.
See Wm. Dyer (“Beldar”) on the subject of his academic record in law school. That he graduated with honors and passed the bar examination on his first attempt is a matter of public record. Per Beldar, law school transcripts would be more indicative of intellectual performance than undergraduate transcripts. Without a doubt, you’ve never seen his undergraduate transcripts because the dean of students at Columbia college requisitioned the microfilm and threw it in a safe in his office and the dean of students at Occidental did the same. Colleges are addled by race matters and will do this courtesy for him they would not do for John Kerry (whose law school record and college record were quite mediocre).
July 20th, 2016 @ 7:00 pm
His ghostwriter on The Art of the Deal is a partisan Democrat / magazine journalist who worked with him on the book 30 years ago. It’s a reasonable wager he doesn’t know real estate development from tiddlywinks. His mother was a prominent management consultant and most engaging public figure. He lives out his life as her undistinguished son.
July 20th, 2016 @ 7:10 pm
THRUSH, which was a made up organization for TV. S.M.E.R.S.H. was an actual Soviet spy agency but your suspicion is spot on. After the fall of the Soviet empire S.M.E.R.S.H. lost out in a power struggle with the FSB after which they helped found the “Clinton Foundation”.
July 21st, 2016 @ 7:52 am
What is your problem? In his speeches and writings, he rehashes unoriginal, tired, old, bankrupt ideas and cliches. That’s what I was implying about Obama. There is nothing original about him, except when he is fabricating stories about his girl friend and his father.
Ayers never entered my mind and I was referring to Obama’s undergraduate transcripts. His law school accomplishments are well known. You are looking for an argument based on your own misunderstanding of what I wrote.
