DALLAS SHOOTING: Five Reported Dead in ‘Military-Style’ Sniper Attack

The latest this morning:

Eleven police officers were shot ambush-style, including five fatally, in Dallas Thursday night by at least two snipers, amid a protest against the recent police shootings of two black men, Alton Sterling in Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Minnesota, according to the Dallas Police.
One of the suspects had engaged in a standoff for several hours with police, but a Dallas city official announced around 3:30 a.m. that it was over. That suspect is now dead, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said.
“Our explosives took him down,” he told “Good Morning America” today.
“He was cornered in a garage and wouldn’t give up and we sent in explosives for that.”
The conditions of the six wounded officers weren’t immediately released. One civilian was also injured.
Officials said there are three suspects in custody and police are still investigating a motive for the attack.
“I can tell you they’re being pretty tight-lipped at this point,” Rawlings said of the three suspects.

There has been wild speculation about this incident — radio talk-show hosts blaming “white supremacists” — and people were shocked by video of a confrontation in which one of the snipers, wielding a rifle and apparently wearing body armor, fatally shot a police officer.

UPDATE: Dallas Police Chief David O. Brown, in a press conference this morning, said that one suspect was cornered and killed after a long negotiation. During the negotiation, Brown said, the suspect invoked “Black Lives Matters,” told police he “hated white people” and wanted to kill white people, especially white police officers.

UPDATE III: Our irresponsible President made an irresponsible Facebook statement yesterday, blaming “racial disparities” for the “lack of trust that exists between law enforcement and too many of the communities they serve.” Well, who should we blame for these “disparities”? Elected officials, perhaps? Democrats, perhaps?

    Now why isn’t this attack categorized as “racist”? Maybe wrong perps/victims? Obama has targeted “guns” for the Dallas murders, unlike Charleston, LA, and MN killings, but similarly to the murders in Orlando.

    Black Lives Matter is directly responsible for Philando Castile’s death law enforcement justifiably feels that every Black man wants to kill them.

    That is not correct. We do not know how the shooting went down (we have not seen that on video) but if it was a cop reacting improperly to a suspect who did nothing wrong–you cannot blame it on people protesting police shootings in the past (although I agree with you the professional protesters in Ferguson did not help matters).

    Higher crime rates in the black community, however, is a real thing and that is why cops are so defensive against blacks who are detained.

    I agree blacks do commit more violent crimes than whites I just think the anxiety level around backs has increased because of BLM beyond the usual cautiousness
