Here are the first there paras of a must-read Angelo Codevilla essay over at the Federalist:

The Obama years have brought America to the brink of transformation from constitutional republic into an empire ruled by secret deals promulgated by edicts. Civics classes used to teach: “Congress makes the laws, the president carries them out, judges decide controversies, and we citizens may be penalized only by a jury of our peers.”

Nobody believes that anymore, because no part of it has been true for a long time. Barack Obama stopped pretending that it is. During the twentieth century’s second half, both parties and all branches of government made a mockery of the Constitution of 1789. Today’s effective constitution is: “The president can do whatever he wants so long as one-third of the Senate will sustain his vetoes and prevent his conviction upon impeachment.”

Obama has been our first emperor. A Donald Trump presidency, far from reversing the ruling class’s unaccountable hold over American life, would seal it. Because Trump would act as our second emperor, he would render well-nigh impossible our return to republicanism.

The whole thing is an essential read, and floats the question: who best to un-frack this mess? No one, really; “Progress” was built in a century. We can start with Cruz, but it’s going to take much more than eight years to get to a suitable course.
Via Bearing Drift, here is a more detailed personal deconstruction of Her Majesty’s Secret Servant:

Loved the Gold Sharpie bit starting at 6:00.
We can thank Blutarski of Queens for driving forth the unlamented Florida Niedermeyer. Because we’re generous like that. But now it’s time for conservatives to sober up.

He couldn’t have vetoed George Bush’s attempt to give amnesty, He couldn’t have vetoed George Bush’s Race to the Top. He couldn’t have vetoed Patriot Act…or the TSA. Obama had nothing to do with Lisa Murkowski, nor did he have anything to do with Ken Cuccinelli…He didn’t support Charlie Crist…never worked against Ronald Reagan…shall I stop?

Btw Obama is an evil motherf@cker but that DOES not mean that the GOPe are a bunch of Nuns.

Hate to say it but the Weekly Standard has a good article on why Trump is mopping the floor with the punks remaining in the GOP nominating process.

And truth is I am pretty surprised that usually smart bloggers like y’all would have picked up on it…after all y’all make such a big f@cking deal about feminism and other leftist fantasies.

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/the-elephant-in-the-room/article/2001170

But there’s more to it than mere anger. Chris Christie was angry, and he’s gone. Trump has hit on important issues — immigration, the economy, appeasement unlimited — in ways that appeal to voters emotionally. There’s nothing wrong with that; I trust someone who feels what I feel more than a person who merely thinks what I think. But though Rubio and Cruz are plainly capable of connecting with voters emotionally, Trump is way ahead — for many reasons, but the most important is obvious and virtually ignored.

Political correctness. Trump hasn’t made it a campaign theme exactly, but he mentions it often with angry disgust. Reporters, pundits, and the other candidates treat it as a sideshow, a handy way for Trump (King Kong Jr.) to smack down the pitiful airplanes that attack him as he bestrides his mighty tower, roaring. But the analysts have it exactly backward. Political correctness is the biggest issue facing America today. Even Trump has just barely faced up to it. The ironic name disguises the real nature of this force, which ought to be called invasive leftism or thought-police liberalism or metastasized progressivism. The old-time American mainstream, working- and middle-class white males and their families, is mad as hell about political correctness and the havoc it has wreaked for 40 years — havoc made worse by the flat refusal of most serious Republicans to confront it. Republicans rarely even acknowledge its existence as the open wound it really is; a wound that will fester forever until someone has the nerve to heal it — or the patient succumbs. To watch young minorities protest their maltreatment on fancy campuses when your own working life has seen, from the very start, relentless discrimination in favor of minorities—such events can make people a little testy.

How very leftist of you to wish death upon me. You must be a closet Neo-Con…myself I was never a liberal. Never had a heart…so fuck you very much. Carry on.

Btw genius you still have not responded…still trying to google everything?

  20. HughdePayens
    March 1st, 2016 @ 5:55 pm

Where do I support government action? Supporting Trump is not supporting more government action….of course this isn’t a zero sum game. Cruz has no chance of winning in the General. Rubio has a LOT less chance in the General. Jeb is a punk bitch, Kasich cannot decide what he is but my gosh he wants to lecture me about what I am not doing. Fuck him…so of the possible republican candidates who can win Trump stands out.

But the most important part of Trump is he mirrors my view of politicians….We have been governed by the stupidest most corrupt bunch of assholes I have ever seen.

  21. Finrod Felagund
    March 1st, 2016 @ 6:28 pm

It takes a special kind of idiot fool to be a Trumpbot like you. The rest of us want nothing to do with your suicide charge supporting the only candidate that gets his ass handed to him by Hillary Clinton.

As I said, I have no obligation to answer on your timetable, so shove it. Some of us have lives; you apparently don’t.

  22. HughdePayens
    March 1st, 2016 @ 7:28 pm

hehe…you are fun. Not very smart but I think that’s why you are so fun. You asked a very specific question and I answered you…then you went quiet. I suppose that you simply understood that I knew more about this than you thought I did.

Or maybe this is your imitation of a LIV? Whatever it was really special watching you flop about…

  23. HughdePayens

Oh and btw this idiot fool was quite able to respond to your question about which one of those items Obama would have vetoed…you apparently are dumber than the proverbial box of rocks, asking such a stupid question.

  24. NeoWayland
    March 1st, 2016 @ 8:02 pm

I didn’t say anything about supporting Trump.

I asked why is it better for government to act than not to act.

Trump wants to act and expand government power. So do all the other candidates.

Personally, I want someone who will a) cut spending, b) cut taxes, c) reduce regulation, and d) bring the troops home.

None of the Above may be the only sane choice.

  25. HughdePayens
    March 1st, 2016 @ 8:30 pm

No choice eh…? Well that is not the way the leftists played the game. They ate away at our country in small bites, then bigger bites then even larger bites…you win where you can. You never quit, if you cannot advance you hold your ground, if you retreat you make them pay for every step backwards. You never simply throw your hands up and give up.

Trump is going to do a couple of really great things when he gets into office. Political correctness is going to take a huge hit in the ass. And he will force the silent majority acknowledge the fact that BOTH parties have been fucking us. That is YUUUUGE.

Hey if puts up a wall and gets rid of a few million illegals that is lagniappe.

  26. HughdePayens
    March 1st, 2016 @ 8:32 pm

  27. NeoWayland
    March 1st, 2016 @ 9:21 pm

If you play the game by “their” rules, you lost before you began.

Expanding the state made progressivism powerful. The left absolutely depends on a top-down government. The crime of the 20th Century is that so-called conservatives started doing the same thing.

  28. Finrod Felagund
    March 1st, 2016 @ 9:58 pm

I understand perfectly that most Trump Drumpf supporters aren’t swayed by facts, only by BS. This is why they support Drumpf, and why most of them are suckers for used car and time-share salesmen.

But I blame most of the Drumpf phenomenon on Boehner and McConnell, whose refusal to buck Obama has made conservatives desperate—too desperate, in many cases, to think clearly about whom they choose to support.

It’s 2016 and you think the “Burn the Whole Damn Thing Down” crowd won’t take that over too? You’d be lucky to have a Bill of Rights that includes: You have the right to shut up. You have a right to trial by a random mob of people who easily offended.

Anything that comes out of it has to be approved by 3/4 of states. That’s a high bar. Do you really think that crazy shiite can happen with modern media and the final approval being state legislatures?

I’ll say it again. The alternative is the full time rewriting of the Constitution by the White House and a leftist Supreme Court. If that is what you prefer, than the fire will absolutely come.

Well I think it is safe to say that never quitting is not a leftist principal. I don’t think that taking big chunks when you can, smaller chunks when you need to and standing fast when you have to are leftist tactics, they are smart tactics that the right has forgotten.

I meant to give credit to the left for knowing how to fight. I wish the right would learn how to fight. In ANY fight you never quit, never run backwards…every step backwards you take a chunk out of the opposition.

  45. daialanye

  46. NeoWayland
    March 2nd, 2016 @ 2:26 pm

See, that’s what folks have been conditioned to accept.

“We have to take big chunks when you can and stand fast. We have to make sure that the right people are in control. We have to expand government and keep it out the hands of the left.”

The issue is not who controls the government institutions, the cultural institutions, or even the semi-private institutions.

    The issue is freedom.

The institutions are the distraction. They may have served their purpose once but now the institutions exist to limit your freedom.

So what is the real choice?
