Our Supreme Dark Lord’s New Book,
And Other Stories

By now, everyone who’s been paying attention to GamerGate (happy first anniversary!) or the Sad Puppies movement with regard to the Hugos should be familiar with, or at least recognize the name of, Vox Day, Supreme Dark Lord of the Evil League of Evil. I doubt that anyone since George W. Bush has caused so many on the Left to completely lose their shit, and W was nowhere near as successful at getting his hapless enemies to do EXACTLY WHAT HE WANTED. So it was with great interest that I ordered his new book, SJWs Always Lie: Taking Down the Thought Police, a book that is currently #1 in Politics on Amazon, further irritating the kind of people who need irritating. The book is an excellent tract on what kind of people SJWs are, what they do, and how to fight back – effectively. Vox chronicles the recent public shaming of people like Brendan Eich and Tim Hunt as examples how not to do it. He also chronicles in a brief but thorough manner the ongoing successful grind of GamerGate and the two-front war on the Hugos as illustrations of how to do it on a macro scale, and also includes helpful tips on how to take on and defeat SJWs in the workplace or in other organizations where one encounters these human cockroaches. Adding to the value of the book are not just a foreword but an afterword by Gandalf the Gay himself, Breitbart reporter Milo Yiannopoulos, who is almost always entertaining. Highly recommended; I don’t often say this, but this is a book you absolutely ought to read, especially in these wretched times when we’re beset by these deranged killjoys on every side.
As I mentioned in my previous book post, I’ve been renewing acquaintance with some old favorites that I haven’t seen in, oh, almost three years now; some of them, it’s been longer, since I never did unpack all my books when I was living in Alexandria. Anyhow, this week I reread Robert Frezza’s A Small Colonial War and Fire in a Faraway Place, the first two novels of his Suid-Afrika trilogy. These are the tale of a colonial world under an interstellar Japanese empire, settled by (mostly) Afrikaners and “cowboys” and dominated by a Japanese corporation, United Steel-Standard, which has let things get out of hand to the point where an Imperial task force is sent to restore order. One of the units in the task force is the 1/35 Rifle Battalion, originally from Finland and commanded by an unorthodox Russian officer, LTC Anton Vereshchagin. In the first book, Vereshchagin must find a way to defeat the Afrikaner Bund and its shadowy Order after they’ve successfully nuked most of the task force and its ships in the sky. In the second, set six years after the first, a new Imperial task force has arrived to put USS back in the saddle, and our plucky little band of Finns, Russians, “cakes” and Afrikaners are forced into rebellion. One of the reviewers made the claim that Frezza writes better than John Ringo, which I don’t think I agree with, but like Ringo, Frezza is not afraid to kill off characters when the plot requires it, even important characters. I found both books tragic, stirring, and very thought-provoking, and have a hard time believing that Del Rey has let them go out of print.
You may or may not remember the War World anthologies, set on the world of Haven in Jerry Pournelle’s CoDominium universe. They were very uneven in quality, written by authors ranging from Larry Niven and S.M. Stirling to Harry Turtledove and lesser-known folks like Susan Shwartz and Judith Tarr, and are currently being reissued by Pequod Press and Baen in a more coherent series arranged in chronological order, and with new stories added. But I digress; after the original anthologies, some of the stories written by Stirling, Turtledove et al were put into a pair of fixup novels, Blood Feuds and Blood Vengeance, which melded the ancient tale of Oedipus Rex with the state of affairs on Haven three centuries after a shipload of Saurons arrived to take possession, climaxing in an apocalyptic assault by a massive army of tribesmen, Bandari, and the rebelling “cattle” of the Saurons themselves on the Citadel, center of Sauron power on Haven. Half the fun is watching various characters, Sauron and others, go through their paces and fall prey to mistakes they can’t avoid making by their very nature, while other characters are trying and failing to warn them off. The plotline involving the Sauron cyborg Sigrid is particularly amusing, in its own twisted way. Not Hugo material, but excellent brain candy, highly entertaining.

They’re already bitching about SP4. The nitpicking and goalpost-moving is a sight to behold.

He’s earned every bit of that title.

While I can enjoy Vox’s desire to write SJW’s Always Lie, I wish he would have done it after another Selenoth novel. I can’t remember what the first one was about now

“I never said that”
(citation)
“Oh THAT’s out of context”
(full citation)!”
“That’s OBVIOUSLY not what I meant!”
(similar historical citations)
“Dear Authoritative colleague…
…and kill the messenger!.”
(ASTOUNDING tenacity)
Maybe if they had JUST read “The Prince”, instead of “The Princess and the Pea”!

I should probably take a look at those. I liked one of the stories that was nominated for the Hugo last year, but “The Last Witchking” left me cold.

See also The Internet Arguing Checklist, another fine product from the International Lord of Hate. 🙂

Group portrait can be found here. I am ashamed to admit that I didn’t recognize one of my favorite authors until I realized what he was holding. 😀

At the end of the day it was likely VD’s Rabid Puppies who did the most good work on the Hugos. It had the same effect as watching cockroaches scurry when a kitchen light is turned on. People are assuming WorldCon’s SJWs were angry about who got on the slate. That wasn’t it; it was who was kept off. If you look at the 30 odd names who would’ve otherwise made it onto the ballot without SP/RP you see 100% of the gay feminist rot that sits at the core of this cult. The Puppies short-circuited the SJW loving affirmative action movement where they take in sad, marginalized refugees which straight, white, male homophobes, racists and misogynists have kept out of SFF. The net effect to a normal human being was the same as John Belushi smashing a guitar in Animal House. The truth is our so-called “progressives” are no longer on the right side of the story of Animal House. SJWs are preening idiots so stupid they mainstream hate speech even while announcing their core mission is anti-hate speech. Go ahead and make a version of Animal House where plucky lesbians cry “rape!” while they egg the Dean’s house or mutter trigger warnings and grouse about heterosexuality as a compulsory binary. Somehow I think the comedy and satire would be sucked out.

It has been rebranded as the Evil Legion of Evil, since he now has over four hundred Vile Faceless Minions.

SP4 isn’t likely to go well. If you look at what McCain argues here about feminism he’s arguing from moral high ground; not pro-conservatism but anti-hate speech. Milo didn’t chase Shanley Kane off of Twitter (temporarily) because of a difference of politics but because Kane is the David Duke of the tech net. Out of 800 comments on that MSG post the word “feminist” is used twice. That’s a failure. It’s like talking about the Pacific War without mentioning the Japanese. There is no moral high ground in wanting conservative SFF at the Hugos. There is moral high ground in attacking a cult which operates like a KKK which itself insists “diversity” is necessary because of the moral failure and bigotry innate to men, whites and heterosexuality. If you think that’s not what’s at the core of this issue you haven’t been paying attention. Radical third wave feminism is the go-to orthodoxy of core SFF’s social justice crusaders and it occupies the exact same intellectual space any supremacist group of hateful sociopaths does.

One may presume that in addition to this, between the Monster Hunter Nation, Hoyt’s Huns, Col. Kratman’s Excruciators, and those compelled by the Yellow Sign, there probably are at least 5000 followers of the various members of the ELoE. Next year’s Hugo voting is going to be very interesting. *evil grin*

To use an analogy almost certain to piss everybody off, Vox is playing Malcolm X to the Kindly Ones’ Dr. King. Whether this continues, or SP4 goes Rabid, depends on how the CHORFs react, and at this point, they are as putty in Vox’s hands, so…
September 5th, 2015 @ 5:21 pm
You already know how they will react. The idea of “slates” is a red herring. They want their “marginalized” and their religion to be nominated and anything which stands in the way of that – no matter how above board and honest – will get the same response as this year. If WorldCon had any interest in art you’d see art.
September 5th, 2015 @ 5:30 pm
For WorldCon you should really have written WSFS or the CHORFs. Every WorldCon is different, and its makeup depends on who signs up and who shows up.
September 5th, 2015 @ 7:16 pm
Oh, I wasn’t even counting his Ilk, Dread Ilk, and other readers. Just the ones where their Venn diagram intersected with “thinks it’s funny to be numbered. “
September 5th, 2015 @ 7:49 pm
I don’t see it that way. Core fandom globally is addicted to this feminist cult. Look at Cora Buhlert in Germany, Fabio Fernades in Brazil, Yang in Singapore, Requires Hate in Thailand/Hong Kong, de Bodard in France, Charles Tan in the Philippines. Thanks to Twitter they network like neighbors. And Helsinki will have an anti-white mouth like Nalo Hopkinson as a Guest of Honor, and she’s originally from the Caribbean Basin.
September 5th, 2015 @ 8:05 pm
Or, as Mad Mike refers to it, Condom. But that’s not all there is to fandom, and it never has been, despite the whining of the CHORFs. The Sad Puppies are all about bringing the despised “fringefans” and SF fans who may never have heard of the Hugos or Worldcon before into the tent so we can drive out the moneychangers of Tor and their SJW allies.
September 5th, 2015 @ 8:06 pm
I have to admit that aspect of it creeps me out slightly even as part of me is highly amused.
September 5th, 2015 @ 9:46 pm
But you can’t do that making it a liberal vs. conservative issue. Look, this is really simple: this SJW movement which is giving us shitty stories is an affirmative action/diversity movement based on racial incitement and incitement to hate men because it’s core ideology is sociopathic gay third wave feminism. That incitement itself is based on lies straight white male SFF authors have been and continue to be committed racists, misogynists and homophobes for the 100 years of American genre SFF. That’s a vicious fraud and pure hate speech. Simple as that. It’s an analogy to a blood libel used to stoke resentments against Jews. SP4 would be a lot more successful including that in a mission statement and providing weekly crazy SJW quotes and reasoned factual rebuttals about the true history of SFF. That is exactly what McCain does.
September 5th, 2015 @ 11:53 pm
Well, that’s what the arguments within the Sad Puppy faction have been about – is this a full-bore counterattack in the culture war (which alienates some otherwise sympathetic fans because that’s not their cup of tea, they just think the current crop of Torgos have been given to shitty stories) or a limited war to get traditional SF a seat at the table again -which alienates all the folks like you who see this as a crusade against the SJWs a la GamerGate. I lean toward the former, myself, but I can understand folks who don’t. In the end, I do think Vox is going to be successful in getting the CHORFs to either burn the Hugos down by voting No Award, or better yet, by voting in obvious pieces of dung like Heuvelt’s short story this year while people are actually paying attention for a change.

Well, let me put this a different way. I’ve read one place the Puppies fell down is in not getting their own press releases out. We kept reading how the Puppies movement was a racist, homophobic and misogynist one which resented women, gays and non-whites from entering the field in numbers. However, if you throw that over to actual quotes rather than the innuendoes and scare quotes E Weekly, The Atlantic and The Guardian resorted to, you can actually find more racially and sexually inflammatory quotes from a wide variety of SJWs about “white cis dudes,” “old white men,” “cis scum,” “white dude parade,” “white tears” and the like. I think not fighting back on that front in where the battle was lost, because it starkly highlighted what bald-faced liars SJWs are and where the real racial and sexual bigotry lies.
