In Praise Of Erick Erickson For Curb-Kicking A Discourteous Cur

Ol’ EE is taking some Twitter heat for the following act =>
I Have Disinvited Donald Trump to the RedState Gathering.
This blog is in staunch support of Erick on the point. The Presidential election is what amounts to the world’s most painful job interview. For a Chief Executive. Name another Chief Executive whom you’d expect to hear making even oblique menstrual remarks in any context. That CEO would be gonzo in a New York second, and the firm’s stock would be thrashed as every Social Justice Warrior in the Racism Industrial Complex arsenal arrived in a simultaneous time-on-top strike.
(And are the SJW knives coming out for The Donald? That should tell you something about the farce underway.)
One can defend Trump’s anti-Political Correctness stance. Political Correctness is just a variation on the theme of authoritarianism. And American irreverence is something this blog holds very, very dear. Irreverence is the spice of liberty.
But that’s not the same thing as boorishness. Hating aristocracy and the decadence it implies is not barbarism. Just because we’re not kissing Her Majesty’s ring doesn’t mean we’re embracing the sort of crudeness that doesn’t pass muster in church. That irreverence is like spice in the food: a little dab’ll do ya. And it’s hard to remove. So, less is more.
Trump seems the same sort of triumph of style over substance that Barack Obama himself has proven to be. Where are Trump’s substantive policy ideas? The Donald sure appears to be a provocateur, operating in GOP territory and saying outlandish things so that the Democrat base can say: “See? Look what those conservatives tolerate.”
No. Donald: it’s not too late to grow up. You’ve been an affluent, spoiled, vaguely teenage lout for many decades. We need a President, not Sideshow Donald.
Thanks to Erick Erickson for being the Adult in the Room.
Update: Darleen (and co-blogger Jeff on Twitter), are most decidedly NOT in agreement with me on this. I see their point, but stand by Erick on this. Babysitting Trump is not my idea of a good time. Red State is certainly not the GOP. To say that Red State’s actions are those of the GOP is to conflate them, in my opinion.

Seriously, dear I wasn’t criticizing you. When I seriously want to criticize a person for seriously using “seriously”, I seriously hope they notice!
Now take a breath.Don’t take yourself so…seriously!

Oh no. I get it. I was just busy “looking up” the words “imply”, “condescending” and “dear”. You know…cause middle-aged wimmens like me need all the lurnin’ we can git.
Now if you don’t mind, I’m gonna return to my real life. The one that doesn’t involve being treated like a child by a keyboard pseudo-intellectual.
You be sure to insult me as I’m walking away, now. 😉
August 10th, 2015 @ 12:01 am
Insult you? After you called me a “keyboard intellectual”.
‘Humorless’ isn’t an insult, it’s a descriptor. (Look it up.)
Maybe “irony”, too, if you get the chance? ; )

I am amazed how quickly “whatever” was interpreted as a sexual slur. Sorry, but if Trump had said the same about Brett Baier (which he may have), no one would have noted it. So, this controversy is all in the minds of the SJW’s.

If I ever call you “Sparky,” you have my permission to beat the ever lovin’ shit out of me…

I called out Erick on his own site for his treatment of Sarah Palin in October 2011.
Everything else you wrote about him is completely false.
August 10th, 2015 @ 2:22 pm
Has it occurred to anyone perhaps that is the real reason nobody wanted Trump at the RedState event?
Um, if no one at RedState wanted Trump there, he wouldn’t have gotten an invitation in the first place. IIRC the invite went out to Trump about a week before the event because the slot that Governor Deal was supposed to speak in had freed up.

Erick was responding to Souter having written the execrable Kelo decision. I believe I called Souter names that were many times worse that day, and so did lots and lots of other conservatives.
You’ll have to do better than that.
August 10th, 2015 @ 2:32 pm
If you can only quote non-conservatives to criticize someone’s conservatism, then your argument is nowhere near as strong as you think it is.
August 10th, 2015 @ 2:49 pm
Gosh, I don’t see how stating you have used worse language than EE refutes the point I made that EE is no fainting maiden himself when it comes to how he expresses himself. I don’t think your argument would work even if you could site another individual, doesn’t even have to be a self-declared “conservative” since really that’s not relevant, that then disinvited someone from a public event because their language was over the line. But at least that argument might be a logical attempt at refutation…
August 10th, 2015 @ 2:50 pm
So he didn’t work at CNN?
August 10th, 2015 @ 2:50 pm
Noted purist. However if a liberal can spot his hypocrisy, what does it say about that conservative?
August 10th, 2015 @ 2:51 pm
Or was a I wrong when I stated that he used less than civil language about Justice Souter?
August 10th, 2015 @ 2:52 pm
Or my personal opinion that he is a terrible radio host when he fills in for Rush — I’m not sure opinions are true or false they just are…
August 10th, 2015 @ 3:25 pm
-Republican- SJW wannabes.
August 11th, 2015 @ 3:58 pm
You’re linking to Media Mutters and expecting people here to take you seriously?
August 11th, 2015 @ 4:14 pm
Nearly all leftist trolls set their history to private. Less than ten percent (by my guesstimate) of non-trolls have a private posting history.
August 11th, 2015 @ 4:15 pm
Lots of us think that the only thing Donald Trump fights for is the greater glory of Donald Trump.
August 11th, 2015 @ 4:17 pm
I used far worse language that day, when Souter wrote the Kelo decision.
August 11th, 2015 @ 4:18 pm
Your comment says nothing about CNN.
August 11th, 2015 @ 4:20 pm
When Trump has said things just as bad in the last week, and you have to go back several years to find something offensive Erickson said, well then it’s obvious that your mind is made up and you refuse to be confused by facts.
August 11th, 2015 @ 4:21 pm
Leftists think all conservatives are hypocrites, but they’ve never excelled at logical arguments.
August 11th, 2015 @ 4:22 pm
When you quote people that would like to see me and pretty much every other conservative in the country die in a fire, I naturally discount what you say down to zero.
August 12th, 2015 @ 10:44 am
He’s a weenie, plain and simple.
August 12th, 2015 @ 10:45 am
He’s on his own rag. He’s dealing with his old washed up dried up sperm messing up his undies.
August 12th, 2015 @ 10:47 am
Trump, like alot of the other candidates, is a weiner.
August 12th, 2015 @ 10:56 am
In our circles we call him a pompous dick, but well, whatever.
August 12th, 2015 @ 10:57 am
And I agree, he isn’t much of a man. I would say he needs to grow a pair, but balls are pretty weak things. He just needs to learn how to be a gentleman.
August 12th, 2015 @ 11:30 am
I know. Trump is such a little weenie.
August 12th, 2015 @ 8:37 pm
I’m still amazed at how many of you idiots fell for the lie he meant her period. So stupid lol
