Sounds Like A Business Opportunity

I agree that isolation of conservatives is an obvious goal for the Left, but Erickson’s worry doesn’t seem such a threat:
And now, Apple and Facebook are set to develop news platforms that will have a human curator, instead of a computer algorithm. Twitter, likewise, is engaging humans on trending news topics, etc. It is only a matter of time because Google works its algorithm magic to drive down links to those who oppose the new cultural agenda.
So we will see orthodox Christian voices disappear from most news channels. The left are master propagandists. One of the chief tricks of the propagandist is to convince you that you are all alone. Everyone else thinks otherwise. So an Apple that celebrates gay rights and bans what it thinks is hate is only one step from prohibiting a Russell Moore piece through its news service.
As long as there are blogs like Red State and Hot Air, I guess I don’t see the worry.
Outfits like Salem Media Group might grow to include more services, including conservative social media indexes and Twitter/FaceBook replacements.
Capitalism has taken some hits in recent decades, but there is still a market for media with a shred of moral clarity. I hope.

Christians have been too apathetic about developing their own lines of communication and have used stuff established by idiots such as facebook, Google and Yahoo. Satan’s end game is here and he will use his vile minions to try to shut us down. But, Christ said that, “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” The end of the book tells us who wins, and won’t be the SJWs and CHORFs. They’ll end up with their father for all eternity.

For millennia, it was a human dream to fly to the moon. Then one day someone did it.
There is another dream that has been in every culture, in every age, and we could be very close to attaining it. That is the act of completely erasing an idea.
It’s a temptation that everyone has. Admit it. Aren’t there ideas that you would prefer to utterly erase from existence, instead of having to deal with over and over and over?
Computer science can make this possible. What we see now are baby steps into a time where all recorded human knowledge is gathered in one place and then tightly controlled (without appearing tightly controlled, seeming instead to be the freest age ever).
I get pretty weary of the naive belief that the internet is an aid to freedom. I just see it closing up and becoming the worst Big Brother system ever devised. Clearly, we have seen a rise in the power of the stupid, aggrieved mob.
Back in the early ’60s, there were people who said, “No! You’re wrong! Birth control pills will strengthen marriages!” And this is because people make the mistake of looking at their own situation and missing the big picture.

What man has done, man can do again. It’s not like TCP/IP protocols are only comprehensible to libertarians and Democrats.

The problem is the basic infrastructure. The rest is easy.
June 29th, 2015 @ 12:12 pm
I think the big picture is that what happened to the Roman Empire before it fell is now happening to us. And also that the Republic is dead, I’m sad to say. All that’s left now is a mop up effort.
June 29th, 2015 @ 1:00 pm
I really am at the point of just letting it all collapse so I can say “Told ya so.”
This points out the basic problem with civilization: A good one takes constant work and responsibility, which is “unfun.” So when you’re telling people to be responsible, your enemies are using that to tell the masses, “See? This system doesn’t work! It’s inherently flawed!” So they switch to the “Let’s all have fun” system, which is Sodom. Then it’s over.
This is how we go from a strong, pioneering nation to one that’s just hedonistic; from Conrad Hilton to Paris Hilton.
June 29th, 2015 @ 1:03 pm
Gonna have to go back to the system of drawing a fish in the sand.
June 29th, 2015 @ 3:36 pm
Back when I first got heavily into studying the Roman Empire and it’s fall (back in high school) I used to muse what it must have been like for a Roman Citizen born in the mid 400’s, just in time to have known a secure, Roman World only to see it collapse in his lifetime.
Now I know. Because those of us born near my time (and later) are seeing the same thing out of the United States…

“…blogs like Red State and Hot Air…”
WTF?!?
Salem is NOT Regnery Publishing.
Salem – IN PARTICULAR HOT AIR, TOWNHALL (I wasn’t aware that they had also bought up the “Worship-Me-I’m-Blowhard-Erick-Or-Else-RedState”) – is LIBERAL SOCIAL POLICY.
That is NOT to say they’re libertarian or objectivist (the Ayn Randian inbred relative), just
USEFUL IDIOTS TO THE LEFT’S
TOTALITARIAN AGENDA.
June 29th, 2015 @ 6:08 pm
I prefer extirpating the holders of left ideas.
June 29th, 2015 @ 6:57 pm
I didn’t realize this until recently, but it occurs to me that the Catholic Church is the only existing institution to have survived something like what we’re about to experience and may have useful memory about how to rebuild afterwards.
June 30th, 2015 @ 9:51 am
Alas, you are correct.
June 30th, 2015 @ 9:53 am
All too often the RCC is part of the problem. I don’t look for them to contribute anything to a possible rebirth of freedom. The only rebirth of freedom that will come is when Christ returns to rule. That isn’t far in the future, but it’s going to get very bad before he does return.
June 30th, 2015 @ 3:21 pm
Salem started out as a conservative Christian radio network, but they put a gay marriage supporter in charge of TownHall, and HotAir has always been a mixed bag for social conservatives. I suggest reading conservative columnists over at jewishworldreview.com — the proprietor is Orthodox and an across-the-board conservative.
June 30th, 2015 @ 3:32 pm
Excellent points. Several years ago a friend and his son tried creating a social network for homeschoolers and their families, later broadening the scope to Christian families generally — cxfriends.net. Today is its last day in business. The target audience kept using Facebook as their primary means of keeping in contact with each other — it was convenient and that’s where everyone else is.
I think too about the personal networking infrastructure among bloggers. The organizations that put together blogger conferences were at best indifferent to social issues and in some cases funded by supporters of social revolution. Rather than find yourself surrounded by kindred spirits, a social conservative at one of these conferences were likely to find that the cool kids in the group thought social issues and their advocates were ridiculous and just needed to shut up.
June 30th, 2015 @ 3:48 pm
Related to this: Conservative opposition to net neutrality and the idea that broadband providers can be trusted to protect access to all websites. The handful of companies that have a near-monopoly on broadband access are all susceptible to leftist pressure, if they haven’t already internalized leftist values. (Anyone know if Comcast, Cox, etc., tweeted rainbow flags on Friday?) To be heard, and to be able to find each other, our voices need an internet that is content-agnostic, just pushing packets from point A to point B. If Comcast limits your search engine choices, and if those major search engine providers ban certain facts and perspectives (as Google has been willing to do in China), it’s as if those facts and perspectives don’t exist.
June 30th, 2015 @ 7:01 pm
Some blogger conferences are OK and understand that social issues are also issues of freedom. No immoral country has ever lasted long. As chaos descends, people demand order and there is always a man horseback that’s glad to give them that order. For a small price, of course.
This time there will be no rebirth of freedom before a blood bath comes. Bible prophecy outlines what is going to happen, and it will be devastating to the earth and all its inhabitants. The SJWs and CHORFs are going to get what they wanted, and they will get it good and hard.
Why is cxfriends going under?
July 1st, 2015 @ 2:20 am
If Salem is part of any solution, we are in big, big trouble.
July 1st, 2015 @ 6:47 am
They were never able to build a critical mass of users and were down to a handful of participants. People would sign up, but their friends weren’t there, so they’d gravitate back to Facebook.
The site was started in part as a small-business project for a group of homeschool high schoolers, and it succeeded in that respect, but the teens have all gone on to college, and my friend who founded the site is moving to a new job in a new city, so it seemed like a good time to shut it down.
July 1st, 2015 @ 8:07 am
I think a lot of Christians are going to be sorry they gave any support to facebook.
