Tracinski Is Half Correct

Why Does the Left Kowtow to Islam? is an important read. The rub is
The point is that the left doesn’t kowtow to Islam because they actually love Islam, but rather because they hate our own culture. They have been steeped in a narrative about how American and Western culture is racist and “imperialist,” and they’ve been trained to see anyone with a dark complexion and a non-Western origin as the victim of our crimes. When they see criticism of Islam, or deliberate attempts to defy Islam, they filter it through that narrative. They see it as: there go those bigoted right-wing Christians, demeaning dark-skinned foreigners again. So they reflexively oppose it.
Specifically, the Left hates the Enlightenment; the idea that individual liberty is the unit of analysis; that Locke was correct about natural rights; that anything other than the State should be seen as authoritative.
Islam, then, is a useful tool of conquest and subjugation, from the Left’s vantage.

Amen to that. Same thing happened to me personally. I go to a church that I never wanted to go to because God told me to. I tried to talk Him out if it, but like Moses and Jeremiah, that was a no-go.
But now that I’m there, I see why He sent me. This church has a lot of new believers who need mentorship to stay focused on God and Biblically on-track.

One of the most insipid phrases of this age has to be “spiritual but not religious.”

If you read about the Russian experience with the part of the world the Tsarnaevs are from, you’ll note they keep some ethnicities out of the Army and engage in massacres on a regular basis. So what’s the real upside to importing people who are violently amoral familists again?
May 20th, 2015 @ 6:56 pm
I’m not sure those of the Left would couch it in quite those same terms!
May 20th, 2015 @ 7:43 pm
Christianity and Judaism, untainted, are opposed to the Satanic lies at the root of pretty much everything the Left has to say.
May 20th, 2015 @ 8:02 pm
Stalin had the left in this country pegged as “useful idiots.” They once thought they could use the Soviets to win. Now it’s the Islamonuts. If Stalin had won, those useful idiots would have gone to the first handy wall. He knew when they woke up, they’d turn on him. Castro learned the lesson well and turned Che loose. If Islam really wins, the Islamists will make short work of the leftists.
The hate of the left is utterly irrational and they will learn that, one day. One day too late, right after they feel the knife bite into their neck at the start of their beheading.
May 20th, 2015 @ 8:03 pm
Citing Feder is H8, I’ll have you know.
May 20th, 2015 @ 8:21 pm
I guess if you’re talking about the Catholic church, I wouldn’t know anything about that.
As an older, more mature Christian woman, I would be obliged to question a woman who did this in my church. The first question I would ask is, why? Because if your hair is your covering, per 1 Corinthians 11:15, then it would be a question of motivation and attitude if she persists.
Of course, I am Protestant, but I would point out 1 Timothy 2:8-10 and 1 Peter 3:3-4, which speaks of a woman’s modesty in church. The intent of this scripture, of course, addresses immodest clothing, but also pertains to one’s attitude when one wears something. So what would a woman’s attitude or intent be in wearing something unusual, and the fact that this thing would bring attention to her?
I’d argue to such a woman (of course, in my own church) that her intention is drawing attention to herself (and thus drawing attention away from God), the same as if she wore immodest clothing, a ton of makeup, had a bunch of visible tattoos, or lots of expensive jewelry on, or anything that is dramatically different than the rest of the Body worshiping there.
So I would ask her to look into her heart and see if she is in church to humble herself before God, or to exalt herself in the eyes of men, and if it’s the latter, then that’s idolatry.
Again, in my church, I would be expected to say these things, and to do so lovingly, in order to mentor younger or less mature Christians, so that they don’t stumble others of the brethren, as per Romans 14:21.
May 20th, 2015 @ 8:26 pm
The Left would couch it in a bunch of curse words, and threats concerning people’s children.
May 20th, 2015 @ 8:31 pm
Wow, RKae. I had to actually stare at that for a minute, while my mind attempted to assimilate the meaning of those words in juxtaposition. Perhaps the translation is “Let’s work together to kill Christians”, because it’s that how Muslims “fight” something?
May 20th, 2015 @ 8:31 pm
It’s funny because it’s true.
May 20th, 2015 @ 11:25 pm
That’s really asinine, considering that, like it or not, we’re all spiritual creatures.
May 20th, 2015 @ 11:27 pm
Hahahahaha! I could’ve lectured them for an hour and a half on that topic, and they never would’ve asked it again.
May 20th, 2015 @ 11:32 pm
To answer your question, yes, I am Catholic. This is an old tradition in Catholicism, and in Orthodoxy. Yes, even some Protestant sects do this.
In both Catholicism and Orthodoxy, it is considered a sign of respect to what we believe is the Real Presence at our Mass. Far from drawing attention to ourselves, women like me are doing what we believe to be commanded in 1 Cor 11:4-6, 10 and 13. Some Bible translations use “veiling”, others use “covering”, but it is clear that Paul is not talking about human hair. He’s talking about a covering of some type over a woman’s head, or the lack thereof on a man’s head.
I don’t think that by saying a man’s head should be uncovered that he means that guys need to look like Mr Clean. Why would Paul mean “covering” to be hair for women, and not for men? That makes no sense.
We are praying in public, and Paul’s words state we should do so with a head covering. That’s why I do it, and many other women do it.
Now, with all due respect to an elder Christian sister….I think God wants me to pay attention to what’s going on during the Mass more than He wants me to be concentrating on other people’s clothing choices. For all I know, that person with the tats, gaudy jewelry and heavy makeup is farther along on the path to Heaven than I am.
Yes….that includes the progressives who give me the side-eye for wearing the veil, too.
I cannot see into their hearts. Only He can do that. What He sees in them may be more pleasing to Him than what He sees in me. If I forget that, I’m prideful no matter what I wear….or don’t wear.
May 20th, 2015 @ 11:32 pm
Well, the only upside is killing a bunch of people, which the Leftists really love, conceptually. For that matter, to them, the only people who deserve to live are other Leftists. That don’t piss them off.
The Bible teaches that we live in a cursed, fallen world, with Satan as an overseer. I think we’re seeing that clearly now. Probably a wake-up call from the Almighty.
May 20th, 2015 @ 11:45 pm
OK, don’t take this wrong, because I’m not telling you what to do. Because you won’t obey my orders anyway, LOL!
But, I have been studying this a long time, and I can say that you have to take the Scriptures in context, which, if I may say, you are not. In verse 15 of the Corinthians scripture, Paul is summing up by saying that women do not need to wear head coverings (except bald women, so this would be necessary for cancer patients).
As in the other scriptures I quoted, we have to take into consideration the perceptions of others. Of course, I know that we in the Body of Christ should not HAVE to, but we do, because the worst thing we could do would be to mislead others. I say this because I know that you would not want to do that. However, you also do not want to unintentionally cause others to focus on you, rather than our Lord.
Perhaps a good compromise would be to sit in the rear of the church, so as not to draw unwanted attention to yourself?
But you are correct not to concern yourself with the opinions of so-called progressives. The single most important thing is staying true to the inspired Word of God.
May 20th, 2015 @ 11:59 pm
That pretty much describes any adolescent attempt to shock the squares.
Remember the sixties, all the new found fascination with anything non Western, from sitar music to Buddhism? Then there’s Madonna’s idiotic flirtation with Kabbala and selection of the name Esther, in order to gain the energy inherent in a new name (huh?). Then there were the hybrid cult-like movements intended to attract gullible well heeled Westerners and separate them from their cash, such as Esalen and TM. At the extreme end you had the People’s Temple.
Probably a milder form is the annual appearance of the “what’s in/what’s out” lists that every metropolitan paper is obligated to print around the New Year. God forbid you keep eating Cajun food when Thai is the new thing!
May 21st, 2015 @ 12:11 am
I would not bet on the final realization, not for many of them. As Abdul hacks away they’ll be protesting “Why are you doing this? I hate George Bush too!”
Many sent to the Gulag protested their innocence (as well they should, since nearly every victim of the Gulag was selected at random by local Party officials to meet Stalin’s quotas). A common lament was “If only Comrade Stalin knew!”
May 21st, 2015 @ 12:15 am
It’ll be real serious when “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” is common.
May 21st, 2015 @ 3:15 am
The only thing I would add is a quote from the NRSV Bible:
“…For her hair is given to her for a covering. But if anyone is disposed to be contentious—we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.” (1 Cor 11:15-16).
May 21st, 2015 @ 3:56 am
Not necessarily. They might push a wall over on you.
May 21st, 2015 @ 4:40 am
Really? I will never fully comprehend them. There are much cheaper ways to kill someone than by toppling a wall.
May 21st, 2015 @ 6:38 am
I think the need to make a point outweighs economy. After all, the cheapest approach would be to ignore gays.
May 21st, 2015 @ 8:26 am
I’m just confused as to why it is so important to you that I give up a Biblically based custom of my ancestors (my family members have traditionally been either Catholic or Orthodox, and my interpretation of those scriptures I cited is accepted in both), when I don’t even attend your church.
I understand it would be a distraction in your church. You’ve made that clear.
However, if it was that much of a distraction in my parish, we wouldn’t have a lector who veils, or other women who assist with the Mass who also cover their heads. I am certain our bishop (who has celebrated Mass at my parish on special occasions like Confirmation), our priest or our deacons would have told us to stop if it was…especially the deacon who teaches my weekly apologetics class. He has an opportunity to say something to me personally every seven days. So far….zip.
If they’re fine with it, that’s all that matters to me. They’ve never hesitated to say if something is wrong before, even when the outside culture, and other denominations, insist that it’s just dandy (gay marriage, abortion, ordination of women). I doubt they would be intimidated into silence by a little bit of cloth.
May 21st, 2015 @ 8:46 pm
I was told there’d be no math.
May 21st, 2015 @ 8:51 pm
The Jews were very much in demand as mercenaries.
May 21st, 2015 @ 11:19 pm
To a mathematician, there’s ALWAYS math. But you can cheat off my paper. I’m too oblivious to notice.
