It’s not often that I can give a thumbs up to fellow IFNAG and Senator John McCain, but signing Senator Cotton’s letter was the Right Thing To Do.

Vox is about as clueful on this point as they were on Her Majesty’s email.

McCain told Politico that:

“I saw the letter, I saw that it looked reasonable to me and I signed it, that’s all. I sign lots of letters.”

McCain’s statement, reported late on Tuesday when the furor over Cotton’s letter had become a national scandal, seems clearly intended to minimize his actions by making them seem commonplace and inconsequential.
Just signing a letter! Who among us hasn’t signed letters? Basically the same as the family update your mom mails to all her cousins every Christmas — they’re all just “letters.”

Well, yeah, read it, Vox bimbo. This is the same blog where another Vox knob said of the letter:

This is a direct strike at the president’s ability to conduct foreign policy without congressional interference. Presumably, Clinton doesn’t like the precedent: after all, Senate Republicans could do something similar to a President Clinton in 2017.

Now, I’m old enough to remember that fabled, pre-unitary executive America, when the Senate had a responsibility to ratify treaties. Rumor has it that the Vox staff thinks “treaties” are what they get from neighbors at Halloween.

No wonder I don’t read Vox. I feel dumber from even this tiny exposure.

    John McCain is one of the most frustrating men in Washington. I cheer for him on Defense and International matters where I agree with him more often than not, but on domestic policy he tends to drive me up the wall.

    Still, he would have been a sizable improvement over #OccupyResoluteDesk and Slo Biden.

    Sending the letter was probably unwise tactically. This needlessly gives ammo to the hysterical shriekers both in and out of government. And the Iranians have no better understanding of, or concern about what our constitution says. No matter which scenario occurs either no deal, bad deal or bad deal abrogated by the current legislature or future president we end up at the same place.

    An open letter op-ed addressed to the world would have been more effective. They might have gotten several national papers to run it simultaneously. If poking Obama explicitly was a must (always enjoyable but not always the best tactic) the ”letter could have been addressed to him.

    The best hope of derailing this treaty is to pass a veto proof bill requiring it be past by the senate. This may not have been a possibility but is more difficult now. Time is crucial as one never knows how many more indictments the DoJ is holding.

    He’s often wrong on foreign policy mainly because he think’s the world is entitled to democracy and it’s our job to see that they get it.

    Sideshow Joe is always good for a laugh. For a minute. Then you remember that this himbo glommed onto the Occupant as his sugar daddy, so unlike the rest of us, he’ll never have to worry about money or substandard health care the rest of his life. Then I get pissed off.

    IIRC, the Senate held a 97-0 vote promising to not ratify Kyoto *while it was still being negotiated*.

    And the League of Nations was shot down at least partly because Wilson didn’t invite any Senators to our delegation.

    Who says they can’t get their two cents in? The Logan act?

    Article I section 6 trump that – “They shall in all cases, except treason, felony and breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any speech or debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other place.”
