A Woman’s Most Important Right

Is her right to defend her own life and property:

A Van Zandt County, Texas woman fatally shot a convicted sex offender as he was trying to break into a side door of her rural home Tuesday morning, an act of self-defense the local sheriff praised in light of an understaffed police force.
Christopher Ray Foster, 37, died at the scene after the unidentified woman shot him at her home near Canton, Texas. She called 911 at around 4:30 a.m.
Foster, who had an extensive criminal history, was recently released on a personal recognizance bond from Van Zandt County jail for failure to register as a sex offender, KLTV reported. Police also believed Foster was the prime suspect in an arson which occurred on Monday.

Scratch one name from the sex offender registry.

Don’t expect feminists to notice this success story for women’s rights. Feminists only care about “rape culture” when they’re persecuting a college boy because a girl he hooked up with got mad.

    I got an automated alert from UNM the other day. There’d been an attempted sexual assault at Zimmerman library. My first thought was how did someone define an *attempt* at sexual assault, but the alert went on to describe the guy as having a knife. So, serious stuff. Probably not a student either, in fact almost certainly not a student.

    I’m reminded of this (partly because it was sort of alarming) because campus is one of those places where the law abiding are legally disarmed and a woman does not have the right to self-defense if she chooses the one thing that is actually able to reverse size and strength disparities between men and women.

    (Oh, and I also was reminded of it because you mentioned rape on campuses.)

    Fortunately, this story is from Texas; had it occurred in Illinois or some other loony-bin state, she’d be facing prosecution for having a firearm in the first place.

    But, the most disturbing part of the story is this:

    What kind of idiotic “judge” would release such a person on a personal recognizance bond? This judge’s stupidity put this woman in danger, and if she hadn’t been armed, she’d be either a traumatized rape victim, or a corpse, by now. This “judge” needs to be identified, and fired.

    The paragraph you quoted does, indeed, lead to more questions, than answers. If Foster was on parole or probation for some prior crime, his bound would have been set for that in addition to the failure to register charge. I would also note, the failure to register implies he was not under supervision for parole or probation, as probation/parole officers normally make the registration and failure to keep them updated with a parolee/probationer’s address is itself a violation which will send one back to prison.

    The article also doesn’t specify whether the failure register is a misdemeanor or a felony. If it’s the former, some states limit the bonds which can be required. I don’t know about Texas, but a refusal to grant bond may not have been a legal option.

    Finally, the problem may have to do with simple numbers in the local jail. The ACLU keeps close tabs on those things and has filed numerous lawsuits over the years regarding county jail overcrowding. Many counties are under federal court orders to limit the number of inmates. This forces local judges to make choices about bond amounts and OR bonds, which they might not otherwise make.

    While it’s tempting to blame the judge, I would reserve judgment until I knew more specifics.

    Yeah, but the one and only time that someone held a knife to my throat, it was a college student, after dinner, in his dorm room, which I was in only because I had accompanied a friend who needed to discuss homework with his roommate. Not gangbangers. Football players.

    The only “woman’s right” a feminist knows if the right to infanticide. Just as “woman’s health” means only abortion. That is the ONLY health issue facing women.

    I won the staredown and he put the knife away, then my friend and I left the room. She and his roommate were staring at us. Because I knew him and he had a history of attempting to intimidate me, resulting in laughter on my part, I knew he had no intention of hurting me so neither the police nor the school was aware of it. I ran into him many years later and he acted like he didn’t see me until I said hi to him. He claimed he didn’t think I’d remember him and I asked how I could forget him?

    Then he told me that he was high at the time, which I could see in his eyes, and that he’d been at someone’s wedding a couple of weeks before, and that incident came up; he said that I could’ve had him off the team, out of the dorm, out of school, in prison and he wouldn’t have played arena league football if I’d called the police…nobody could believe there were no repercussions. He seemed a bit shocked that I didn’t hold it against him.

    Quite. Self defense is one of those rights, which if advocated for women, results in examples of philosophical inconsistency which, when noted, become part and parcel of “male aggression,” as decried by the young lady in our host highlighted in the prior post.
