What Are The Odds That Boehnerdict Arnold Ends Up Making Wurst of Brat?

It’s been depressing to see the fine print unfold: elections have consequences, so long as those consequences tend toward expanding the federal government, centralizing power, diminishing liberty, and crushing the borders.

. . .Brat takes his mandate to halt amnesty as a promise made to his district. Most point to Brat’s opposition to amnesty as the primary reason he defeated Eric Cantor, and Brat’s victory over Cantor was later revealed to be the primary reason that amnesty didn’t happen last summer.

I’m kind of looking forward to CPAC next year. Conservatives have a long slog ahead of them, struggling against the Democommies and their Vichy GOP sympathizers. But I expect Brat will get a hero’s welcome, rolling in off the grill.

The continuing resolution to fund the government specifically limits Homeland Security funding in February, when GOP can address it with majorities in both Houses. Everything else is funded through rest of fiscal year, so if President Obama vetoes the new measure in February, he can shut down only a small part of the government.

    This is smart politics.

It’s politics, not smart, or conservative. The Cromnibus bill by nature prevents debating specific bills — ya know, the way things were done for 150+ years. It’s a coward’s gambit, designed to make conservatives support a bad bill or get pilloried for shutting down Congress. Boehner is a traitor.

With luck enough conservative pubes and enough lefty dems will be able to kill it forcing a punt to early next year. The new people coming in have been described as conservative or moderate depending on the scriblerian. Even if they all ran as conservatives half will be coopted immediately (think Renee Ellmers) and become reinforcements for Boehner. In any event we’re probably boned.

If Brat defeating Cantor killed immigration reform this session the lesson is obvious. Defeat more house leadership. I think ACE’s idea to create a shitlist of Republicans every cycle is a good one. Pick if 6 or 12 every cycle who absolutely are not returned to office. If they prevail in the primary defeat them in the general even if that means electing the Democrat.

CPAC? Always a fun party, I’m sure. But seems to me the conservatives have been firmly elbowed aside in that organization.

They seriously need to consider hosting it in someplace away from the beltway, like Houston or Tulsa or Nashville.

Freedomworks will undoubtedly have a good convention in 2015, and possibly the upcoming Redstate Gathering in Atlanta next year will be interesting. If CPAC can’t get it together, they should be left in the dust.

The CR is based on the Ryan-Murray deal from last year. The only real differences are short-terming the HHS funding so the new Congress can deal with Obama’s amnesty and slipping in an amendment to Dodd-Frank which has Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders bursting blood vessels (so it must be good) and repealing the part of McCain-Feinhold which funds party conventions with taxpayer money.

Of course, some people were just too busy kissing Ted Cruz’ ass at the time to pay attention to details.

And do toast Brat, by all means. Hope CPAC is early in the year, before he gets to vote much. He is more libertarian than conservative in everything but amnesty.

Have pictures taken with the guy. They’ll be good for a real hoot later, when you find out about him.

Where have you been the last four years? Reid won’t allow the Senate to produce a budget. There haven’t been appropriations bills voted upon since Republicans took the House.

    You are ignorant.

Good campaign material. Of course, Cantor never voted for such a thing, or publicly supported it.

But I’ll be sitting back, watching as the heads explode if Brat holds true to the positions he’s argued for years.

    Great idea!

Of course, you couldn’t even knock out three this time but, hey, if at first you don’t succeed . . .

Freedom Works – who donate nearly 5% of their donations to candidates and issues, and spend the rest on salaries, offices, and travel?

Guess they still beat RedState, where 100% goes into Erickson’s pocket.

    December 11th, 2014 @ 5:03 pm

What the hell do you expect them to spend it on? They are an advocacy group, not just an electoral PAC.

Redstate isn’t a PAC, so I’m not sure what your point there is. I hope Ace gets 100% of his blog’s “take” as well. So what?

There’s not one single PAC, “think tank,” or advocacy group that I know of that doesn’t have some high-profile person dragging down the dollars-to-mission efficiency. So they’re all guilty of “wasting” donation money to some extent.

That’s not a good reason to perpetuate that for another fiscal year.

Are you suggesting that Cantor and Boehner are opposed to amnesty? That it wasn’t the political costs to them that stopped them from bringing the gang of eight bill to the floor?

” Ryan-Murray deal from last year.”
That would be the deal that suspended the sequester for a year? The sequester was the only significant spending cuts in years (not even that significant). Is that why it should be voted up?

I don’t hate many people because I don’t like expending the energy but I really do hate John Boehner. I hate his crying, his whining, his mocking after all that conservatives have done to put him in the position he is in.

  22. JadedByPolitics
    December 11th, 2014 @ 7:33 pm

bottom line on that is conservatives were late to the PAC Party. I know people get their panties in a twist over TEA Party groups getting donations but why should a conservative care where another puts their cash. If I feel like donating I will and if I find they aren’t spending the way I like I will donate elsewhere.

What alternative universe do you live in where Boehner and Cantor don’t support Zuckerberg and Gates in giving them H1B visas out the yahoo to lower IT salaries?

I knew Boehner and to a lesser extent, McConnell had to go after the 2012 debacle. The base didn’t see it that way.
The GOP base needs to get burned BADLY in order to throw the bums out. If they keep re-electing them, then they haven’t been burned badly enough.
I expect the next two years will drive a LOT of Republicans to become independents. The establishment is already off to an infamous start.
