A Little Salt For The Democrat Gash

This blog was a huge Christine O’Donnell booster, back when. No regrets. But one can’t let this fact pass un-touted, emphasis mine:
The Christine O’Donnell thing really did happen more or less by accident, because she happened to be in the right place at the right time to catch an anti-establishment wave and win a primary in which she was supposed to be a protest candidate. Whereas the Davis experiment was intentionally designed: She was treated to fawning press coverage, lavished with funding, had the primary field mostly cleared for her, and was touted repeatedly as part of an actual party strategy for competing in a conservative-leaning state. Of course she had a much more impressive resume than O’Donnell, with less witchcraft and real political experience, and in that sense she made a more credible candidate overall. (Though, ahem, O’Donnell actually outperformed Davis at the polls in the end …)

And that was when Karl Rove put a big ‘Kick Me’ sign on his own back. It was a clear signal to even the gullible, that the GOP was not interestedin playing fair with conservatives.
Part of why I voted Constitution Party when I could in the last vote.
November 8th, 2014 @ 12:22 pm
Ouch!
We did learn a lesson with young Christine. Make sure you vet your candidates. While Castle’s former seat is still held by the Democrat Combs, we did learn from that event; From Christine O’Donnell we went to Joni Ernst in this cycle. And the GOP Establishment needs to be reminded they can be fired (I am especially looking at you Cochran and Barbour). No regrets indeed.

Oh.. that headline is awful. It makes my teeth ache it’s so awful.
November 8th, 2014 @ 2:55 pm
supported her too, wish the GOP did!

I like to use synonyms to recycle cliches. So I wanted to say “A Little Sodium Chloride For The Democrat Gash” but “sodium chloride” forced me onto a second line. So I reverted to salt. “Gash” is still shorter than “wound”.

The only thing they have in common was that they are both ditzy chicks.
I’ve ridiculed O’Donnell and especially the lovelorn out of state males who sent her the millions she has lived on ever since (the book earlier this year signals she ran through it already), but she was, as Douthat notes, taking advantage of the wave that year.
Davis came to national attention due to a stupid stunt. Leaving the merits of the bill aside, even a ‘successful’ filibuster at that point only delayed the implementation by a couple of weeks, and everyone knew it. Yet the Democrats chose to make her their Gyno-Warrior Heroine of the Cycle (am I allowed to use ‘cycle’ talking about her, or is that too patriarchal?).
Despite their big talk all year long about ‘Blue Texas,’ Democrats never really had a chance in the state this year, and they had no reasonable candidate to lead the ticket, so they gave it to the pink-slippered princess to be their sacrificial lamb.
~
There are two other things Davis and O’Donnell had in common: they both ran stupid campaigns, but neither ever had much chance of winning, despite the delusions of their brain-dead fans.

We also learned a lesson through young Christine: every single one of those “you icky conservatives must support our RINOs in the general because Republican” types (Adjoran, I’m looking at you) is a hypocrite of Democrat proportions who couldn’t wait to plant the knives.
November 8th, 2014 @ 9:46 pm
It does, but it works.
November 8th, 2014 @ 11:46 pm
Hey, are you saying Christine’s abs are not that flat?
November 9th, 2014 @ 12:59 am
I’m pretty sure the arm jowls are less prominent.
November 9th, 2014 @ 1:34 am
Nobody in the GOP gives a rat’s patootie what you fringe birds think, say, or do anymore.
Rant on, or start your own party. You’ll go far with O’Donnell, Bevan, Wolf, and McDaniel.
November 9th, 2014 @ 10:47 am
Ok. Keep smugly ignoring us, chump. The soulless GOP elites are about to come to religion.
November 9th, 2014 @ 11:39 am
Uh, yeah.
November 9th, 2014 @ 12:31 pm
The only thing restraining the base from open warfare with the establishment GOP is the threat of Obama. Once he’s gone, watch the long knives come out.
The GOPe will change their tune quickly if their base ACTUALLY stays home, instead of just threatening to. I suppose the obvious counter to this is to PERPETUALLY keep the danger from the left real.
November 9th, 2014 @ 12:32 pm
I will punish him and his children and his attendants for their wickedness; I will bring on them and those living in Jerusalem and the people of Judah every disaster I pronounced against them, because they have not listened.'”
Does the GOP listen to God? I pray we in the resistance do.
November 9th, 2014 @ 7:35 pm
Nope, we’ll vote Democrat so your house of cards crashes faster. Fortunately, we had better choices in TX this time.
November 9th, 2014 @ 7:37 pm
Don’t stay home; call their bluff. Democrats and RINOs can burn together.
November 11th, 2014 @ 9:30 pm
O’Donnell won the primary. If the GOP brain trust was so interested in winning the seat they should have pressed Castle for a little party loyalty. He didn’t support O’Donnell, and in so doing aided in the usual Dem dog pile that is their pavlovian response to any attractive GOP candidate. See Allen (VA), Bachmann, Cruz, Palin, etc. O’Donnell represented the people, and that wasn’t any less true just because she earlier had the poor judgment to tangle tongues with the Playboy mansion’s Bill Maher. I believe she looked at it as outreach. I don’t care. The fact is she was the GOP candidate, and the GOP party heads were happy to see her candidacy fail. I heard ’em, and they’re still spewing the same bilge water. It’s “fringe birds” like me that gave the GOP the House and now the Senate, and we’re not happy about how “the party” has treated us, our ideas and our candidates. So chew on that.
