there is an alternative: the Founders’ vision, which puts individuals, their families and their communities—not government—at the center of American life.

What does this vision look like in action? For starters, it favors choice and competition over government-run solutions.

It would make health care a true market with transparent prices and more choices. It would empower Americans to make their own health decisions. Instead of top-down price controls imposed by bureaucrats, we’d have bottom-up competition driven by millions of consumers. That won’t just lower health-care costs; it will improve the quality of care.

The vision also means promoting a foreign policy that rejects relativism and embraces exceptionalism, ensuring our prosperity and security.

It would promote pro-market policies that benefit consumers instead of pro-business policies that favor the wealthy and well connected. It would roll back regulations that serve no purpose except to stifle enterprises, big and small. That will encourage competition and innovation, and get our economy growing so that people can start working again.

And instead of managing poverty, we’d actually be fighting it. Today, we’re spending almost $800 billion on 92 federal antipoverty programs—and yet we have the highest poverty rate in a generation. That’s because the solution can’t be found in a federal bureaucracy; it lies within individual Americans and the community that surrounds and supports them.

As it stands, we’re not empowering people; we’re overseeing them. That’s got to change. We need to see an individual’s problems and potential. Our goal shouldn’t be to simply meet their needs; we should help them tap into their talent and achieve their goals.

That’s why I’ve proposed a plan that would reform our poverty programs by creating federal opportunity grants.

Real quick, Paul: the Founder’s vision is NOT another godforsaken Federal program. You want to restore prosperity? Allow people to opt out. To walk away from paying for entitlements. To just say: “Shag these bad investments, I know better what to do with my money.”

Calling your bluff here, Paul:

When you compare liberal progressivism’s promises with the future that conservatism can actually deliver, the choice is clear.

    BS. Regulation is one thing; over-regulation is another thing. The entire government is like a bloated tick, and if they stayed out of people’s lives, we’d all be much better off. And I’m well aware of the numerous factors killing jobs. One such factor is the lack of manufacturing jobs due to the above-mentioned over-regulation, as well as over-taxation and many other things, all the fault of the parasitic leech government.

    Also, don’t tell me how to be a Christian and I won’t tell you how to be a godless, evolution-worshipping heathen.

    These issues should be handled by local communities and churches, not the federal government. For example, there’s an actually disabled young many who lives a couple of streets over from us. He goes to our church. We – and others – give him clothes, we give him money, we give him rides to places, etc. We give him physical food, yes, but also spiritual food. And friendship. And love. This is one way that communities take care of their own. On the other hand, the people who live in the community easily see who is gaming the system and who is not. If a man is able to work, but won’t, then he should starve until he gets off his lazy bum and works. Either way, it’s not the place of the federal government to reach into people’s pockets and forcibly take money, then give it to those that the federal government wants to give it to.

    The most segregated population within a major US metropolitan area with one of the greatest income disparities between rich and poor. Blacks make up 6% of the population and comprise over 50% of major drug and murder arrests.
    It is the perfect liberal paradise where rich white progressives pontificate about how amazing they are while the poor and middle class are forced to live in tiny homes or only able to rent.
    Besides did you ever think of your ‘thriving’ tech industry is also the least regulated of major industries? Funny that, huh?

    Please don’t hand me that happy horseshit. My wife deals with the VA as a patient and every horror story you’ve ever heard is gospel truth. And in spite of all the investigations and scandals it’s getting worse.

    And trying to get my mother the “nationalized healthcare” she had in her later years was a constant fight.

    As for foreign nationalized healthcare I know one person the Brit NHS let die and one they deliberately blinded. So please.

    Mr Avenue, you’re talking to someone who has seen, with his own eyes, the jobs that many of the immigrants do, and they aren’t all that low-paying. Around the northeast, you’ll find that most of the crews doing landscaping, concrete work, roofing, frame carpentry and the like are composed of Hispanic immigrants; these aren’t minimum wage jobs, but decently-paying ones. But they are also jobs that require hard, physical work to do.

    As for the minimum wage, pass that, and companies will simply pass along the increased costs, because that’s what businesses have to do to stay in business. The result will be what it always is: inflation will eat away the value of the increased minimum wage, and minimum wage workers will be in the same place that they are today.

    The old “oh the disabled! oh the children” argument has been trotted out, and if we could find some way to limit the dole to the genuinely disabled, you’d find few people opposed.

    The problem is that the malingerers have totally overwhelmed the system, to the extent that ‘d rather see truly needy people go without than to support the worthless scumbags.
