Mokita is the antonym of Political Correctness, that falsehood we all know but can’t seem to get the Progressive to quit humping like a sexbot.

I guess that’s the irony of the Information Age: we’re we seem to be buried in hooey, rather than elevated by truth. So the question remains whether we have reached Peak Hooey, or whether we need more Commie agitation like in Ferguson, MO to get us there.

    If you watch how the panel jumps all over themselves trying to get Jason Riley to finish his statements in this excellent piece from Meet The Press, you’ll see exactly what Smitty is referring to here.

    But this PC nonsense is much deeper than mere “allowable speech.”

    It’s the very notion that taking positive action is always wrong that keeps unrest alive throughout the world. This is what the media does: It keeps conflict alive through calling into question any positive action, all so it can provide “coverage.”

    As I wrote at Scoop’s (this has some neat links in it, so skip the words if you’re in a hurry and check out the links)…

    Think about this. Every “hot spot” in the world right now is something the media is substantially responsible for. Not directly, of course. Ted Turner doesn’t call up Vladimir Putin and ask him to stir up some trouble in the Crimea so he can cover it.

    No, this is more subtle, and yet more crushingly overt at the same time.

    I’m cobbling this together in a hurry, so bear with me a moment…

    To begin your chain of thoughts on this, consider for a moment the tactical basis employed by jihadists everywhere: Asymmetric Warfare.

    The concept of “asymmetry” in warfare is probably as old as Sun Tzu’s concepts of deception as a war tactic. But the term itself gained notice among academic/strategy analysts around the Nineteen-Seventies. (I don’t think anyone knows who really coined the phrase, but a wikipedia reference points to an article by Andrew J. R. Mack in 1975). It became a term used regularly by the media and pundits largely after 9-11. But something about asymmetrical conflicts has changed since the Vietnam War.

    A 2007 analysis of the history of outcomes in asymmetric conflicts from 1800 to 2003, by Ivan Arreguín-Toft shows that the smaller “powers” in these conflicts are winning more of them than they used to. They still mostly lose, it’s true, but for some reason, the tactics of asymmetrical warfare are working better than they used to. A simple review of “The Troubles” (regarding Northern Ireland, which tentatively “ended” in the 1990’s) versus today’s Gaza is all you need to see the difference. The Troubles shifted from a physical conflict to a political one, and required serious negotiation to achieve today’s quiescence.

    The Gaza conflict has remained purely in the realm of the physical (I know some political players are working hard behind the scenes, and are relying heavily on barack’s cupidity for all things caliphate, but that’s still nothing compared to the physical battlespace).

    The reason “why” is eluding the typical think-tank types who are focused on economics and technology. While those are powerful levers in asymmetric conflict, there is a reason why the primitive, murderous belligerents thrive, even though Western nations could crush them like the cockroaches they are.

    The reason is modern televised media, and the cowardice of public officials to deal with them.

    I’m going to leave it there, but it’s pretty obvious to me that every conflict today, from the riots in Ferguson to the Middle East, to the Crimea and the cold war over Taiwan are all kept in a foment of war and a stasis of asymmetry precisely because no statesman today has the guts to step on a cockroach in full view of the media, and own it.

    Exactly. The “peak hooey” hysteria from the eighties was erased, once people in the media began frakkin’ and frikkiin’ instead of sinking deep wells into the real reservoirs of information.

    The Trobriand Islands, a yam-centered culture often studied and referred to by anthropologists and, er, apologists, have been mentioned in print a remarkable number of times considering their small size and low level of economic development. They are, fortunately, mere low coral reefs, so continued global warming should correct this problem.
