‘They Found a Rape Kit in His Car’

Do you think #YesAllWomen will notice stories like this?

“The restraining order was granted for a period of three years, this was August 2011. . . . He found me at Dartmouth, at my sorority, he found me at my family’s new home that they moved to. He found me through LinkedIn, Facebook, everything. I tried to delete things, he still found me. He hired a private investigator. . . . I got back to my parents’ house at 1:30 a.m. flying in from Dartmouth and at 8:30 a.m. the next morning he was knocking on my front door. . . When he was arrested by the police, they found what they like to call a rape kit in the back of his car. It consisted of a sweatshirt, firewood, maps of the area, duct tape, a rope tied into a slip noose, hunting knives and various other items.”

Liberal feminists don’t give a damn about the rights of women like Dartmouth student Taylor Woolrich. Liberals want to deprive her of the only real security for women like her whose lives and safety are jeopardized by violent criminals. You see, Taylor Woolrich told her story yesterday at the annual conference of Students for Concealed Carry, and liberal feminists hate the Second Amendment.

    I recommend folks give a serious read of an article by Zombie (of Zombietime blog fame) over at the PJMedia site.

    Now, whenever people bring up the particular angle Zombie is working on with this article, it usually ends up with them being dumped or even banned for engaging in classic racism.

    The reason for that is because being brave and tackling the issue of race head-on (which is something Eric Holder is far too much of a coward to do) places one squarely in a minefield that’s incredibly difficult to negotiate. Few can do it with success. Zombie is one of those few.

    The relevance to this post by Stacy is that the anti-gun crowd isn’t really scared of hillbilly, white trash rednecks who own guns. I suggest you read Zombie’s article to see the real reason they want guns controlled, and withhold your inner “racism detector” until you understand the tenor of the analysis.

    I have a few disagreements with the case Zombie makes, but the case is thought-provoking, and hard to simply dismiss.

    I despise guns. I really do.

    But I approve of this message.

    No matter how I feel about guns, I can’t help but notice that the people who obey the gun laws are not the ones we have to worry about. I can’t help but notice that the folks making the most noise about gun control are the same ones I wouldn’t trust to keep quiet about what anything. And I can’t help but notice that the officials, agents, and policemen who proclaim that gun control is absolutely necessary to public safety are the same ones who don’t want dash cams or the public recording them on cellphones.

    Yes, I approve of this message.

    I am a liberal feminist. I support legal gun ownership. And if carrying a gun makes a woman feel empowered or safer then they should do that. If they use a gun in self-defense, then I understand that justification. However, if we are really talking about ending/preventing violence against women (or relationship-based violence) then that must start with the perpetrators, and debunking the culture that insists it is up to the victim to defend themselves rather than the perpetrator to stop their own violent behavior.

If they use a gun in self-defense, then I understand that justification. However, if we are really talking about ending/preventing violence against women (or relationship-based violence) then that must start with the perpetrators, and debunking the culture that insists it is up to the victim to defend themselves rather than the perpetrator to stop their own violent behavior.

    You keep pushing the idea that any male is a rapist waiting to happen, the real rapists are going to be able to hide in plain sight and get away with it until somebody shoots them.

    I recently saw one of those public service-type announcements that Mothers Against Sanity and Logic threw together that depicted a mother being tracked down by her abusive ex and then shot in front of the kids. My thought when I saw that was not what they were aiming for (no pun intended). It was: if she’d had a gun, he’d be achieving room temperature and her children wouldn’t be the latest additions to the absolutely incorruptible *snort* CPS.

    So do you devote yourself to male prison reform? Because that’s the only place in our society where there is actually a rape culture that is supported by our society. Everywhere else, people hate rape, hate rapists, and want to see them extremely, violently punished. I bet you don’t know a single person who thinks they shouldn’t be killed or castrated.

    But still you persist in believing that somewhere out there is a whole unch of powerful people – southern white males no doubt – who think Rape Is a Good Thing And We Need More Of It.

    That was a Demanding Mommies of Bloomburg ad that seriously backfired on them. The uptick in women suddenly seeing the idea of owning a gun had to hurt. Heck, even the harpies of the View saw the sense of gun ownership at that point.

    It’s not a “culture” problem, it’s a HUMAN problem. As McGehee notes, something is missing from the rapist’s soul.

    I believe this because rape has been a crime for generations. But this “cultural” issue is a very recent innovation, in line with the efforts to suppress free speech (what I call the “civil discourse” approach by leftists [not necessarily liberals]).

    So I applaud your supporting women empowering themselves through firearm ownership. But there’s nothing “cultural” about this. The only known, effective “solutiona” for rapists are: killed by their would-be victims, life in prison, or execution by the state.

    Anything else is simply enabling rape.

    In this particular case the man is mentally ill. Culture can’t fix someones delusions or obsessions. At best society can lock him up so he can’t hurt anyone, but culture can’t fix crazy.

    And why should the perpetrator stop? What makes a rapist different then any other violent criminal in that respect? The only thing that will stop them (assuming they are sane) is their belief that they probably won’t get away with it and arming potential victims drastically changes the decision making process of most violent criminals.

    It is up to the victim to defend themselves. No one else is going to do it for them. I don’t think gas stations should be robbed, but me thinking that it is wise for clerks at those places to arm themselves in case a robber comes in isn’t blaming the victim. Its me trying to make them not victims in the first place.

    I used to be very anti-gun. Not quite out there carrying a sign, but close. Then someone pointed out Cramer’s The Racist Roots of Gun Control and I started looking into it and thinking hard. It was the last bit of libertarianism that I accepted, and the one that was most difficult.

    The first time I ever did the reluctant advocate bit was in defense of concealed carry.

    Why should someone who carries a gun decide if other people are allowed to carry? Why does his power trump their rights?

    The answer is very simple. In a free society there is no reason.
