ZeroHedge: ‘How A Country Dies’

Quite a ring of truth about this:
2. The State
The State is threatened by a decline. Generally it moves into full pretend mode. Three behavioral traits characterize its behavior. The State must convince citizens:
- things are not as bad as they seem.
- the State is not responsible for the situation.
- the State must do more (grow bigger) in order to solve the problems.
Statistics issued by the State are fudged to convey a false image of well-being. Government spending soars in an effort to juice reported economic activity. Much of the spending is unproductive in terms of providing things that would have otherwise been bought. It is also counterproductive to a proper functioning economy as price discovery is disrupted and consumer and investment decisions are based on false signals.
Read the whole thing.
It remains to be seen whether the poison that the Left has injected into this country is going to make death preferable to renewal. Even with the prospect of a fully Republican Congress starting next year, who expects “elections have consequences” in this case? ObamaCare remains fundamentally a bum steer, a 10th Amendment violation, and a kidney-load down the back called “rain”. And the GOP is sounding. . .flaccid at the thought of repeal.
This is why I support the Convention of States. The fundamentally wrong things with the United States have their epicenter with the District of Columbia.
Update:
Once again, some GREAT perspective from @AllenWest. The man has wisdom… #tcot #tlot #tgdn #lnyhbt #teaparty #pjnet pic.twitter.com/CQa8fClWXH

At this point, a “Convention of the States” seems about our only option to save the Republic but even that is not a sure thing.
However, Washington isn’t going to reform itself. Either “the People” are going to force them into it or we are going down the path of disintegration. The only question there will be when and how hard…

“elections have consequences” applies only when DimmiKKKraps win. The GOPe leadership had their spines removed and have no intention of making any changes.

I doubt a CoS would have any real effect. Too many of the states are just as bad, if not worse, than DC.

I’m not sure anything or anyone can stave off the collapse. I’d say it was brought on by too many who fancied themselves Great Men.
At this point I think we should steal a page from Asimov and make sure the interval between civilizations is as short as possible.

No one solution is going to fix what has been going wrong for decades, but we certainly need to try the remedy our Constitution gives to pass on the knowledge and raise the conversation. Until we deal with those who deliberately refuse to follow or enforce our laws with no consequences, until there is equal justice under the law and it applies to all…..it does not matter what laws or amendments are passed by anyone.

The problem with politicians is they are all
monomaniacal narcissists.
There are at least 550 people in Washington, DC who are absolutely convinced they are the saviors of the nation and hold the solutions to the Republic’s problems.
The problem is, they are the Republic’s problems. The solution to our problems is getting rid of the power those 550 people wield.

“monomaniacal” should have been “megalomaniacal.”
Silly spell-checker…

Pardon, but you are limiting yourself to the elected officials. At the very least, you need to throw in the bureaucrats. I’d include the lobbyists and the reporters. Basically anyone who believes that government should act “for your own good.”

Either one works in this case. The mono would address what they are really after – their own interests.
