Al-Qaeda on the Offensive in Iraq

Posted on | June 10, 2014 | 36 Comments

This was entirely predictable:

Insurgents seized control early Tuesday of most of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, including the provincial government headquarters, offering a powerful demonstration of the mounting threat posed by extremists to Iraq’s teetering stability.
Fighters with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), an al-Qaeda offshoot, overran the entire western bank of the city overnight after Iraqi soldiers and police apparently fled their posts, in some instances discarding their uniforms as they sought to escape the advance of the militants.
Iraq’s speaker of parliament, Osama Nujaifi, said the city that ranks as the capital of northern Iraq is now entirely in insurgent hands.

Much more, including video, at Hot Air. Notice that they’re “insurgents,” “extremists” or “militants” — not terrorists, because terrorism has been defined out of existence in the Obama Age.

    When you see the fiasco and chaos, the Clown Posse in DC has loosed in the world, the question is whether it’s intentional or whether they are actually this inept and foolish. This is unbelievable folly, the worst I’ve seen in my lifetime. Obama makes Nixon look like a saint and Carter look like a determined, bold leader. God help us.

    All President Pissyface McStompypants had to do was have the theater commander tie up the loose ends and sign a status of forces agreement. The major points had all been negotiated by Bush and Maliki, it would have left a US security force and base in the country to prevent crap like this.

    All Obama’s fault. The idiot can’t do anything right except party on the taxpayer dime and take all his pals on vacations.

    Sunni Islam is a real religion; democracy is a false religion.

    In any conflict, it’s a only a mater of time before a real religion triumphs over a false one.

    Combination of both, most likely. IMO, we’re lucky that they’re so incompetent.

    There are unalienable truths in the world; one of them being that the ideology of liberalism is an ideology of destruction. It’s also an ideology of nonsense which, paradoxically perhaps, helps mitigate the destruction a little.

    We really need to take the initiative and separate from it, rather than sinking with it.

    Funny how when we had forces in Iraq, the Iraqi people were “dying by the thousands” and the libtards forced us out.

    Now Iraqis will die by the tens of thousands and the same libtards are silent.

    We did warn the country, but hopenchange, so.

    Between this and the Taliban attacks in Pakistan, we should all be sleeping soundly (not) with five renowned terrorist leaders back in the mix. I just hope big O’s chickens come home to roost before he escapes his term.

    It just proves it.

    We haven’t got the stomach, if we ever did, for a prolonged struggle. I’m increasingly of the opinion that short punitive attacks, punctuated by the occasional massive fight are the only possible ways our nation could ever accept this kind of war.

    (Long list of Anglo-Saxon words that are not acceptable for use around children directed at much of the political class)

    Frankly, a punitive expedition would have gotten us far more mileage with far less cost. Go in, kill the people in charge (admittedly hard to find in the Rock Pile, but silly simple in the sand box), kill the people running things, then hand the keys to someone else and tell them “don’t make me come back.”

    Instead, all we did was make it easier for our enemies and line the pockets of our “friends.”

    Yeah, I’m looking at you Karzai.

    Words you don’t hear from Liberals anymore:

    “We support free people;”
    “Afghanistan is the REAL War,”
    “Politics stops at the Waters Edge,”

    All of those statements were proven lies during both terms of the Obama Administration. And let us remember, Democrats never run things, even when they do. (sarc)

    What can we teach the American people from the Democrats from 2001 – present?

    1) Democrats don’t believe the rhetoric that were shouting in the streets. They like Bullshitting the public;

    2) If there is a Democratic Executive branch, they have no clue how to counter moves in the real world. If it isn’t an army gathering on the edges of Old Europe, Democrats don’t care;

    Or if you are poor and under the foot of a dictator, the Democrats Bullshit the public that they care about the poor and unfree overseas. The truth is, Democrats like Dictators over American Republican Presidents.

    3) No matter how much Power Democrats have domestically, they claim to have no power. If they played nice, maybe, just maybe,D’s would get bi-partisan support. Or Democrats Hate Bush and Republicans more then they Hate the Taliban or AQ.

    Instead, the world knows that if D’s are in office, anyone who cares little for Free Peoples will rise.

    It will be interesting to see how Obama’s regime will handle what appears to be the inevitable abandonment of the US embassy in Baghdad that’s going to be required in 30 days or so.
