Didn’t I Tell Him to Resign?

What I said about Rep. Vance McAllister (R-Adultery) yesterday:
A part-time district scheduler? Dude, if a congressman is making out with a part-time district scheduler, you know he’s gotta be banging Hill staffers two at a time. It’s probably just a. matter of time before we start getting more headlines: “Vance McAllister dirty texting,” “Vance McAllister nude selfies” and “Vance McAllister sex video.”
Well, McAllister does seem a bit careless with his texting, but nothing dirty — at least, not yet. Meanwhile, however, the congressman’s scandal is predictably going from bad to worse. It has been reported that the video of McAllister’s extramarital make-out session was leaked by the office manager of his district office in Monroe, Louisiana. And then there’s this ugly story:
The husband of the woman caught making out with Rep. Vance McAllister said the Louisiana Republican destroyed his life and marriage.
“I’m just freaking devastated by the whole deal, man. I loved my wife so much. I cannot believe this. I cannot freaking believe it. I feel like I’m going to wake up here in a minute and this is all going to be a bad nightmare,” Heath Peacock told CNN Tuesday. . . .
Heath Peacock said he didn’t know about the episode until Melissa called him a couple hours before the news broke.
“He has wrecked my life,” Peacock, 34, said of McAllister. “We’re headed for divorce.” . . .
Stick a fork in him, he’s done.

Perhaps Heath Peacock could add a Count II to his divorce petition, to change his name to something other than “Heath Peacock.” He sounds like a guy whose wife would fool around on him.

I don’t think he’s done. We forgave Vitter. For pity’s sake, we elected Edwin Edwards FOUR times. (Full disclosure: I voted for Edwards once, in the race where his opponent was David Duke.) I’d like to see this guy gone but unless someone really fabulous steps up, we’re stuck with him.

Just kick a man when he’s down dammit.
April 8th, 2014 @ 9:29 pm
Heath Peacock sounds really fabulous, what with a name like “Heath Peacock.”
April 8th, 2014 @ 9:32 pm
I bet he wears seersucker and used to hang out at The Grove at Ole Miss with the rest of his Kappa Alpha brothers yelling “Hoddy Toddy” for no apparent reason.
April 8th, 2014 @ 9:38 pm
Apparently, the guy was in love with his wife…she then threw that away to cheat on him with the congressman. I hope Heath doesn’t forget to blame her, too.
April 8th, 2014 @ 9:42 pm
It does kind of sound like the name of a drag show headliner, doesn’t it? 🙂
April 8th, 2014 @ 9:44 pm
Screw Heath, it takes two to tango. Can’t just blame the guy.
April 8th, 2014 @ 10:02 pm
I suppose I’d be willing to look the other way on acts such as this under the condition that Heath gets to punch McAllister in the face once without fear of consequence.
April 8th, 2014 @ 10:41 pm
He has to go. ASAP.
April 8th, 2014 @ 11:07 pm
I hope he has the good sense to resign.
April 8th, 2014 @ 11:15 pm
I’d vote for the Lizard over the Wizard as well.

At what point are politicians going to realize THEY DON’T HAVE PRIVATE LIVES? I mean, how many scandals is it going to take before they stop looking at the world like idiot teenagers (“it’ll never happen to me!”) and realize that in the digital age, if you’re a public figure, EVERYTHING you do is almost guaranteed to be on video somewhere. I can almost guarantee that the only reason the media had to spend so much time playing up ridiculous non-issues like a grandfather who was a polygamist in Mexico, Reid’s lie about him not paying taxes, and binders full of women with regard to Mitt Romney is because he didn’t have any juicy skeletons like cheating on his wife or snorting coke off a hooker’s ass.
Of course, none of this really applies if you’re a democrat, so maybe the dopes in the GOP assume if they play ball they’ll get the same treatment. In which case they doubly deserve what they get.
April 8th, 2014 @ 11:53 pm
If the office manager did leak the video, I would hope her career in politics is over. Who would be dumb enough to ever trust her again. But, it looks like she has a connection to McAllister’s former (and perhaps current?) adversary, so maybe she was always planning on looking for an insider chance to destroy him.
I don’t think much of politicians who betray their wives, but I am also not a fan of staffers who betray the politicians they work for.

Hell hath no fury like a big donor cuckolded by the donee .

The press would make it impossible for a Republican in a competitive district to get past this sort of scandal. The 5th is pretty solidly Republican, but McAllister might be vulnerable to a rematch with funeral home owner Neil Riser, another Republican who finished second to him in the special election last year.
McAllister’s problem is he’s brand new in the seat, he only won the special election less than six months ago.
April 9th, 2014 @ 12:20 am
As of end of business Tuesday, she was still the office manager, so it sounds like McAllister isn’t convinced. The accusation comes from a preacher.
Who would trust her? Maybe someone who doesn’t do this sort of thing?
McAllister has asked for an FBI investigation, but I doubt security footage of the outside of a campaign office carries any real expectation of privacy, so it wouldn’t be a crime.
April 9th, 2014 @ 12:37 am
He may just want to be cautious and see how things develop. It would be better for him if he gets the facts first instead of being perceived as engaging in a “rush to judgement”. He can always fire her later.
The security system that did the recording belongs to McAllister’s office and any copying of the video would have been unauthorized. It is no different from anyone else who secretly copies video from the security system of the company they work for to use for their own underhanded purposes.
I would not be so certain that no laws were broken. Leah Gordon, the office manager, has denied making the copy. So, if you believe her, then perhaps someone broke into the office to access the security system. Sounds like it is worth investigating. And if she did do it, will she admit to it, or lie to the FBI? In any event, I am not up on all the laws on breaching a security system, but I suspect that there may be a Federal law that covers an unauthorized breach of the security system of a US congressman’s office.
I am interested in seeing who was behind the “rat fucking” in this instance, so if the congressman does resign, I hope it isn’t before more of the story comes out.
April 9th, 2014 @ 12:40 am
Oh my, a Christian who is a sinner… Stop the presses! Who knew?? Biggest.Story.EVAH!!
sheesh… surveillance video? Really? And we are called “paranoid teabaggers” because all the government cameras/license captures/NSA/IRS stuff makes us nervous on how it will be used?

I think that not getting to choose whatever problems in life we meet with, leaving it to be a surprise, is the only way to face any real challenge. After all, misery is not something we want, even if that something is morbid, it has to be something we really, really, didn’t want to be a decent misery. It’s how we adapt, learn, and face with dignity a real misery that has any importance at all.

I wouldn’t tell anyone I voted for Edwards, even if Duke was the other guy.

Maybe if Mr Peacock had been taking care of business at home, Mrs Peahen wouldn’t have been looking at another bird’s plumage.

It is more humane to put down a cripple than to let it flounder. Especially if it is endangering the rest of the herd.
April 9th, 2014 @ 9:47 am
A statist scumbag. Who’d a thunk it.
April 9th, 2014 @ 10:11 am
Only time in my life I’ve voted Democrat… Louisiana politics are beyond strange.
April 9th, 2014 @ 10:14 am
Remember the “Vote for the crook, it’s important!” bumper stickers?
April 9th, 2014 @ 10:49 am
Not from your area, but it’s about how I’d feel.
April 9th, 2014 @ 10:50 am
You didn’t have Jesse Ventura in 1998, and all his wannabes in the election after that.
April 9th, 2014 @ 10:51 am
I don’t know whether this guy will be reelected or not. I don’t really care. The real question is would anyone ever hire Leah Gordon, for anything, ever again?

How often is one to hire this women, just to get turned on in the most personal way imaginable.

Heh. Divorced? Anyway…

Oh, she’s reasonably cute, and could probably sell knives at Cutlery World in the mall.
April 9th, 2014 @ 12:02 pm
Given her résumé, the lovely Mrs Gordon had to know that if she exposed this and it could be traced back to her — and she’s been a congressional staffer long enough to know that this stuff never stays secret — that she would be not just toast, but the toast which fell on the floor, buttered side down. There was no logical reason for her to do this, which puts such a decision back to the emotional one.
So, what emotions would push her to make a career-destroying move? Jealousy, perhaps? Did the Distinguished Gentleman from Louisiana resist her overtures to snuggle up to Mrs Peahen? Speculation, I know, but it makes as much sense as anything else.

Melissa Peacock? Did someone say Melissa Peacock (the low-lever staffer kissing Rep. McAllister?

I don’t even see the scandal here. By the Bill Clinton standard he didn’t even do anything wrong. A democrat in this situation would never resign, why should a republican?
April 9th, 2014 @ 1:50 pm
Dimokkkrat and Edwards. That’s a bridge two times too far.
April 9th, 2014 @ 2:02 pm
Man. Tough crowd.
April 9th, 2014 @ 2:33 pm
Because we’re better than them.
April 9th, 2014 @ 3:01 pm
So then we lose the seat to a democrat? What good does that do?
April 9th, 2014 @ 3:10 pm
From what I can tell so far, that’s pretty much what the Internet is for.
Well, that and
