Israel Haters Lose at UCLA

One of the weird consequences of the Bush-era “Global War on Terror” is that it inspired sympathy for terrorists among young progressives, whose reasoning seems to have been: “If Republicans are against terrorists, therefore, terrorists must be victims.”

This kind of sympathy for America’s enemies has long been endemic on the far Left, but the anti-war movement of the Bush era had the effect of vastly augmenting the ranks of what I’ve called the “Sirhan Sirhan Wing of the Democrat Party.” Lately, left-wing students on campus have adopted the Hamas/Hezbollah/Al-Qaeda view that Israel is an illegitimate “apartheid” state, and are urging universities to adopt “diverstiture,” boycotting investments in Israeli corporations. They lost a vote this past week at UCLA:

It isn’t often that militant moonbats fail to get their way on college campuses. Consequently, it isn’t pretty when they are thwarted. Libs were crushed when the UCLA student council narrowly defeated an anti-Israel divestment resolution intended to punish the lonely outpost of Western Civilization on behalf of the Arab terrorists who have been trying to drive the Jews into the sea.

    Apparently the meeting this occurs at the end of lasted 12 hours, and supposedly she was professional during the entire thing, and at least used what little grace she has to wait until after it was done to turn into a shrieking toddler.

    Why do you say ‘lately?’ This is an unbroken continuum. The Hamas/Hezbollah Sirhan Sirhan Wing is this generation’s heir to the Democrat Party’s pro-PLO Wing so prominent 20 years ago. They were pro-IRA, pro-PLO and therefore pro-terrorist, anti-Israel, hardcore Marxist-[Maoist/Leninist/Stalinist/Ho Chi Minhist]. They were for the Stern Gang until it inconvenienced the Egyptians and Syrians living in Palestine, and support Baader-Meinhof and any criminal organization that called itself red, like the Japanese Red Army Faction and the Italian Brigate Rossi. Their grandparents were CPUSA and Wobblies and like Dalton Trumbo they advocated to FDR to stay out of the USSR’s peace with Hitler until the latter invaded the USSR and crushed the Red Army.

    What’s amusing about the Left’s infatuation with all things anti-Israel, is that it’s relatively recent in origin. In 1948, the Left loved Israel, because it thought Israel was full Socialist, i.e. one big Commune (Kibbutz). Unfortunately, Israel had the audacity to win and winners are by definition Oppressors. The Young Left then shifted allegiance to those leaders it saw as anti-colonialist, specifically Nassar and to a lesser extent Assad and Hussein, whom they saw as secular native socialists and who were rebels against the governments established by the West post WWII. Toss in the Palestinian Victim schtick and a few petrodollars sown in the right spots and presto, the Left became Anti-Israel in spades. Now the Left finds itself in bed with rabid Islamists who would slice them to ribbons if given half a chance. How their heads don’t explode from cognitive dissonance is beyond my comprehension.

    In this vein, a caution is in order on the new movie “Non Stop” which chooses to portray a American soldier who lost family in the WTC on 9/11 as the terrorist who wants to murder everyone on the plane.

    The serviceman/9-11 survivor is the BAD GUY.

    Please do not spend money on this movie, and spread the word to everyone you know. Sorry for the “spoiler” but better to find out before the bastards get your cash.
