Greta Van Susteren went off on Erick Erickson’s criticisms of Texas Democrat Wendy Davis. Love ya, Greta, but you’re wrong.

Everybodyknows Erick and I fell out in 2011 when he endorsed Rick Perry after I’d already gone all-in for Herman Cain. This happens. But if hating Wendy Davis is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

When Texas Progress listed the “Top Ten Worst Comments Made by Conservatives About Wendy Davis,” I was Number One on the list.

Got your back here, Erick. We’re good to go.

    I, too, have my differences with Erickson, but “Abortion Barbie” was–and is–a perfectly cromulent description of her (and the media marketing campaign that put her on the national stage).

    Will be interesting to see if the conservative bloggers cooperate on the message this year, or do like 2012 and fracture and spend time wrecking each other’s candidate. 9/10th’s of the Dem’s oppo research came from the right’s blogs.

    Depends who they run. I don’t trust the DC GOP to run anyone looking out for my interests….and based on the way they’re screwing around with the primaries, they don’t intend to. But I don’t owe them squat after the last two elections.

    It’s the perfect way to call attention to her shilling for a bad position.

    Pointing out her appearance, and how she shot to fame on a single issue is legitimate. Also, going through a candidates biography is a legitimate move. Remember all the crap about Mr. Bush’s admittedly undistinguished ANG service? Time to hit back, just as hard.

    Not a function of owing, just a curiosity. During the last cycle the leading lights of the conservative blogosphere ripped each other apart, and it got personal for them and their readers. The benefit was, intellectually, each part of the GOP platform and every candidate was thoroughly vetted by conservatives, and the weaknesses became well known. The downside was the DNC’s commercials were written in the blogs and comments of conservatives.

    Erickson has been much better behaved of late. I think he’s less starstruck over the whole CNN thing, and is now boxing out his own space in the Conserv-o-sphere.

    Erickson supports the Article Five Convention, which I was surprised to see.

    Agree Erickson is right about Davis and she deserves every insult. She’s earned them as she wades through the blood of the innocent to promote her own career. There is little that could be said about this evil, lying woman that could be considered excessive.

    But Erickson is a jerk. He’s good enough at throwing red meat, and better at extracting money from his fans. But from my experience, and I was at Red State from the early days until a year or so ago, he does more damage to the cause than he helps it.

    So I wouldn’t invest much in defending him when he happens to be right, lest you be tarred with the association as he reverts to form.

    And if you think Davis’ lies are blatant, remember Erickson insists to this day that RedState never endorsed Perry. He announced at their convention, they relentlessly promoted him and banned some critics, they deleted some comments exposing Perry faults – but they never did a formal endorsement post. But if you read Red State during the campaign, you know the truth, don’t you?

    It’s a little late for the moonbats to pretend to be offended after the “Caribou Barbie” insults directed at Palin. Or perhaps what they’re really offended about is being hoist on their own petard?

    I’m reminded of Frank J.’s hippie-punching campaign. The squishes might not particularly like it, but “punching hippies” works.

    My first thought when I read Greta’s post is I wonder how her numbers are at Fox in the new time slot. I rarely catch her show anymore. I watch Kudlow on CNBC when I’m home. But Kudlow goes to commercial for the last couple of minutes of his show and when I flip to Fox to catch O’Reilly’s “Opening Statement” Geta’s show has not gone to commercial yet. And at the very end she’s always pleading for people who just tuned in (like me) to set their DVRs to watch her.
    So that’s all background to say that maybe this was just a publicity stunt to draw attention to herself and potentially boost her ratings. She’s never struck me as a deranged new age feminist who hates men, ala Amanda Marcotte, but I do think Greta is an old line feminist who thinks women have been treated unfairly historically, so she’s probably sincere in her post. But it does make me wonder.

    I actually think that Greta is on the right track. Look, some people can pull off snark and others can’t. That’s just the way it is. For me, it’s not that “Abortion Barbie” is offensive. I like picking on liberals as much as the next person. My issue is that it’s a joke whose time has come and gone.

    That said, Greta could do a better job of organizing her thoughts if she intends to write things as blog posts. But I think that the point she makes has merit. That Tweet makes Erickson come across as a “creep who takes cheap shots because they are too ignorant and small to engage in an important discussion.” We aren’t going to win the soft middle and ultimately the war Erickson’s way. Just not going to happen.
