‘I Didn’t Want to Seem Crazy’

Posted on | January 16, 2014 | 15 Comments

A year before he killed 26 people, Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza called into an anarchist talk show broadcast on an Oregon university radio station and compared Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik to a chimpanzee named Travis that had turned on its human captor. After the broadcast, using his online pseudonym “Smiggles,” went into an Internet forum and evaluated his radio appearance:

“It didn’t go as horribly as I anticipated. I wish that I hadn’t spoken nonstop about Travis for so long, but I didn’t want to seem crazy by randomly bringing up a chimpanzee for unknown reasons.”

Didn’t want to seem crazy. Killed 26 people.

Of course, are we going to lock up everyone who falls into that definition of “crazy” before they start actually start killing people? Not even considering real violent felons like Kimberlin and suspected criminals like Schmalfeldt and Rauhauser, you attract all sorts of pre-criminal crazies all the time.

For example, could Kat Heche go violently nuts (even if he gave his nuts up)? Sure, although hopefully his low T levels will make him more likely to be merely bitchy. And he/she is just one of the latest in your menagerie of misfits.

If Phil Robertson can call in the ducks, you are no slouch with the large collection of loons you have called in over the years.

I guaranty you that most of the people calling into that show would sound crazy to us.

Leave the Common Loons out of it. What have red-eyed black and white ducks done to any lf you?

Isn’t trying to seem reasonably ordinary a necessity for successful offenders?

Reminds me of the old routine by, I think Kevin Nealon. He spoke of how whenever somebody goes off the deep end they confine him for “observation.”

Right, he might do something crazy. What are we talking about here, red wine with fish, wearing white after Labor Day? For me, the mass murder was the first clue that Colonel Mustard was having a bad day.

Slightly off topic (but still related to dangerous crazy weirdos): The Philly swiss cheese pervert has been apprehended and bears a striking resemblance to a certain pasty enemy of this blog. (See Ace’s blog.)

Well, I’m pretty sure Schmalfeldt makes his own cheese.

I don’t recall any of the recent shooters having spent much time prior boasting about all the people they intended to kill.
