A polished ad from the former RNC chief: While I still think Howie Lind and Shak Hill are great guys (the former, a retired squid has my nod for large, haze gray reasons) we’re talking about going after an entrenched, useless tool of an incumbent.

Maybe if Governor. . .um. . .didn’t a Republican win in 2009 in Virginia? While the ethics charges never seemed to stick against Governor BuM, the prime argument against McAuliffe, that of being the Clinton’s bagman, was essentially removed from play. Among other reasons, this neither helped Cuccinelli, nor paved the way for a GOP wave that could have bolstered a first-timer like Lind or Hill. Thus, opting for a solid, politically savvy candidate with some DC experience would seem prudent, if an occasion for accusations of selling out to the GOP elite. Guilty as charged.

In other Virginia news, Jim Geraghty points to Micah Edmond. Not merely a pretty face, he’s got Congressional staffer experience:

Although I worked tirelessly for two years to help generate the tough choices necessary to produce a comprehensive long-term budget plan that would solve our current fiscal crisis, both efforts failed because members of Congress chose to represent the status quo rather than the interests of their constituents. Congress’ continued lack of action forces us to navigate from fiscal crisis to fiscal crisis without a long-term comprehensive budget plan and it is undermining our economic growth and national security.

It seems only fair that, after sending a useless tool who jacked up the national debt for 20+ years, VA-8 elect someone with real insight into means of walking that debt back.

    i agree. if we don’t win the senate we lose the usa. it’s november or never.

    Northern Virginia has gone very blue in the last 10 or 12 years. It has gone from RINO Heaven to Commie-Idiot Heaven.

    I can hope but I don’t see much hope for a shift toward conservative candidates here in what is really “Southern Maryland.”

    It remains to be seen if Gillespie will make an attractive candidate. Lind is already attacking him as an “insider” and the Democrats are focusing on his days as a lobbyist – although it is hard to square that with their support of McAuliffe, but hypocrisy is a necessary quality of modern Democrats.

    The Republicans need to keep their campaign civil and all should pledge to support the winner of the primary. Cuccinelli and Obenshain were done in by a divided party as well as the unfortunate diversion of attention to the shutdown.

    It is hard to imagine Moran not being succeeded by another Democrat, given the composition of the district.

    Always HAS been. When I left Virginia they were on their third consecutive Dem governor. NOVA always elects Democrats.

    The biggest problem any potential candidate will have to overcome is that dreaded “R” after his name. As we know, Moran is situated in a massive LIV zone of trained seals. His constituents would vote for a dead mouse as long as it had the all-important “D” after its name.

    What good does it do if when gain control of the Senate and most of them as GOP Establishment types [ie: Quislings?].

    I’m increasingly considering that the best thing VA as a whole could do is return Alexandria to DC.

    Of course, that would pull a bunch of violence across the moat (Potomac River), but there are always tradeoffs.
