You could tell the mainstream media had already decided on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie as the “designated loser” Republican presidential nominee for 2016 by the way they reacted to the George Washington Bridge scandal. To give you an idea of the saturation coverage, here’s the top of Memeorandum as of noon ET today:

Now, to an extent, this reflects the New York-centric bias of the media. If you think back to 2007-2008, the media gave excessive coverage to the GOP presidential campaign of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, even though everyone who knew anything about the primary process knew that Giuliani was hopelessly doomed. Ditto, Governor Fatso, but because (a) the lane closings on the George Washington Bridge were local news in the NYC media market and (b) liberal idiots think Governor Fatso is a frontrunner for the 2016 GOP nomination, the coverage of this scandal has been completely over-the-top. Here’s what the top of Memeorandum looked like as of 12:35 p.m. ET Friday:

Keep in mind, we’re still 10 months away from the 2014 mid-term elections, where Republicans will be trying to capture the Senate and strengthen their House majority, so that this early 2016 talk is just a distraction from more urgent political news. But the mindless fascination with the quadrennial “Road the White House” overwhelms everything, with Salon.com’s eminent idiot Joan Walsh volunteering to lead the lemming parade:

Christie proudly admitted Thursday that courting Democratic officeholders and winning their endorsement was part of his plan to “run up the score” and win a resounding bipartisan mandate in his race against Barbara Buono. He clearly planned to ride that reputation for crossing party lines and getting things done into the White House in 2016.
And, to be fair, there are shades of that guy, like the Christie who just backed in-state college tuition for some undocumented high school graduates. But most of the time, Christie is a teacher-shaming, Planned Parenthood defunding, crony-hiring, Koch brother-admiring right-winger. He is also a bully, despite claiming otherwise at his two-hour pity party.
Now, with reporters combing over every detail that could explain why the governor’s top aides rained vengeance down on Fort Lee, they will . . . encounter many stories that deserve a full airing. In the best-case scenario for Christie, in which nothing comes out to show he either ordered Fort Lee’s four-day traffic plague or knew about it, he will still endure national exposure as a fiercely partisan bestower of patronage and punishment. It will scare off some donors and, maybe more important, embolden rivals for the GOP establishment’s blessing — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, or Ohio’s John Kasich, or even Jeb Bush — to enter the ring.

Idiot. News flash for Joan Walsh: Scott Walker is almost certainly a “go” for the 2016 campaign, although he first must win re-election this November. As to whether he has “the GOP establishment’s blessing,” I can’t say, but Walker is a hero to many Tea Party activists who rallied to his support during the brutal 2011-2012 Wisconsin recall election fight.

The key for Walker, I believe, will be whether he can articulate a conservative position on immigration. To win over the grassroots in Iowa, South Carolina and Florida, Walker must strongly oppose the “comprehensive” amnesty plans currently being discussed by Republican leadership in Washington.

Conservatives remember the way Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s 2012 campaign melted down after his infamous “you don’t have a heart” remark in the Orlando debate. Scott Walker must avoid any confusion as to his opposition to amnesty if he wants to win in Iowa and beyond. Basically, I’d say, Walker should vet his immigration policy with Michelle Malkin and Iowa Rep. Steve King, and mark a clear line between himself and the Wall Street Journal/Chamber of Commerce open-borders lobby.

But talk about 2016 is premature. First we must fight the 2014 mid-terms, no matter what idiots like Joan Walsh say.

    It’s the distraction they needed.

    Stacy shows the reality. Also, he’s right about Walker needing to vet with Malkin and King. That would make him “real.”

    But the nastiness over this Christie thing is going to escalate for a little while, I’d bet.

    Scoop has a vid of Matthews and company laughing about how those stoopid Tea Party clowns think Benghazi is a scandal. Not like “Bridgegate,” oh, noooooo.

    Laughing at dead heroes, mind.

    Then Doug Ross (The Economy Charts Boss) has an excellent web comic (that’s his thing, lately) showing this clampdown on the scandal blinders.

    It’s definitely time to turn the #Shutuppery back on these sick fools.

    The Bridge thing is a tempest in a tea pot, and I doubt it lasts much longer. MSLSD will try to prolong it, but eventually they will see the right doesn’t care as Christie never one of us in the first place. [yawn]

    I used to like Fatso if only for his resolute stance on homosexual “marriage”… Then he caved for political reasons! The recents events in Utah show this fight isn’t quite over yet, and that his surrender to the perverts was perhaps premature… I shall enjoy watching him go down!

    I really don’t care that this might bring down his chances at a presidential run – if I had to choose, I tilt more towards the glad side. What does concern me is this pattern where there is a potential Republican contender, a full-bore attack is launched to eliminate that person.

    In Wisconsin, yesterday was a good day for Gov. Walker supporters – kind of surprised that it hasn’t been covered here. Don’t want to get too wordy here, but there was a John Doe that whereby contributors to the recall campaign were being issued subpoenas to disclose the source of their funds – the alleged purpose was to see if there was “coordination” between the campaign and donors (for some reason, Democrat donors were not being asked). Blatant attempt to do a work around campaign finance laws. Anyway, a judge squashed that.

    So, who doesn’t think the purpose of this John Doe is to lay the ground work for the MSM if Governor Walker becomes a contender?

    Saving Christie will be the RNC’s excuse for not supporting conservatives monetarily again this election cycle. As it stands, the RNC needs a hyper-vicious attack spokesdog for whom reality is a concept, but the closest they have is Dayspring at the NRSC, who’s target selection is quite a bit off.

    I do not recall Kris Kristiekreme defending any conservatives, so forgive me if I am not quick to leap up and fight Democrats and their lamestream media toadies in defending Kristie. Plus they are unwittingly doing us a favor, damage Christie and give us a chance to point out the double standard with Obama and his IRS abuse.

    There is no correlation at all between leading polls three years before an election and actually winning an open nomination. For such contests, it is nearly always a negative correlation if any.

    Walker seems a likely candidate, Jindal is also possible. Kasich was going about things the right way for a legislator by running for Governor first, but his actions haven’t endeared him to the base, particularly the Medicaid expansion under ObamaCare.

    It is difficult seeing any pro-amnesty candidate winning the nomination. Perry was the only potential contender who might have survived with some sort of “citzenship” clause in his immigration policy, but he fell so flat last time around it will take at least another cycle to make him viable again.

    Rubio has already ruined himself with his dance with Schumer, but he, Cruz, and Paul are woefully inexperienced, having never run anything larger than their Senate office staffs (much like Obama). America isn’t going to be on board with another on-the-job-trainee whose main talent is speechifying any time soon.

    The dirty little secret no one wants to talk about is how Gov. Fatty McFatFat in Jersey’s henchmen had such a stranglehold on the Port Authority’s operations, even though he was purportingly sharing control with New York’s Andy “Evil Eyes” Coumo.
