Obama Still Hasn’t Responded to Republican Offer to Discuss Health Care

A Republican congressman says it’s been nearly a month since he and 33 colleagues offered to meet with President Obama to discuss health care reform, and they still haven’t heard back from the White House.
“In the wake of Obamacare’s numerous failures, President Obama said that if Republicans had better health care reform ideas, they should say so,” Arkansas Rep. Tim Griffin said in a statement Wednesday. “That’s why 33 of my colleagues and I sent him a letter that included a list of nine proposals that would help build an open and innovative healthcare system, expand access, increase choice, and lower costs. So far, our request for a meeting to discuss these ideas has been met with silence. I hope President Obama meant what he said and will meet with us. It’s not too late for a fresh start, so we can get real health care reform right.”
On Dec. 3, Obama challenged critics of his program: “If you’ve got good ideas, bring them to me. . . . [If] you still think this law is a bad idea then you’ve got to tell us specifically what you’d do differently to cut costs, cover more people, make insurance more secure.”
A week later, on Dec. 10, Griffin and 33 other GOP House members responded with a letter to the President highlighting nine separate areas of reform on which Republicans agree. “We appreciate your offer to discuss alternative proposals,” the letter said, “and we look forward to meeting with you at your earliest convenience.”
So far, apparently, that “earliest convenience” hasn’t arrived.

These clowns didn’t really expect a positive response did they? These guys are supposed to lead us out the travesty our country has become. We are so boned.

Sometime it seems like Republicans actually think that Hussein Obama is serious or sincere about something except his jihad for “fundamental transformation’.
Hussein Obama’s motivated by nothing more than an instinctual hatred for a set of ideas and institutions that he is fundamentally incapable of understanding.

So a bunch of goddamned fools from the GOP took a goddamned liar at his word? That’s more pathetic than Lindsay Lohan’s “career”.
January 8th, 2014 @ 9:46 pm
Why would he meet with them? He won.
January 8th, 2014 @ 10:17 pm
They foolishly assume he has any desire to fix health care.

Way to fight, Republicans! Good to see you finally taking it to the President.
What next, a letter with very little passive voice? At this rate, you’ll be all the way to Def-Con 3 (sternly-worded) in relatively little time.
Say, have any of you seen the silver caviar knife? It’s gone missing.

Political theater at it’s finest.
When it was accepted, they knew Mr. Obama had no intention of carrying it out.

Obama had been using that phony line for months, the Republicans called him out on it. Naturally, the nutbars blame . . . the Republicans.
Naturally Obama can’t have a real public discussion on any complex issue because he isn’t really very bright. Just glib, like every other jive talking con artist on the street.

I think they just wanted it on the record that they made the effort. If the Republicans haven’t figured out that Obama is a textbook sociopath by now then they truly are The Stupid Party.

While it seems foolish, taking him up on his supposed offer is good optics. The question is will the GOP leadership take advantage of the fact he’s refusing?

You don’t get it. A DC GOP-amended national health plan will be NO BETTER. Any government health plan that tries to run at a level above the county and state level will become just another cesspool of graft, grift and influence peddling for the Beltway bandits.
This is just another case of the DC GOP trying to “surrender slower.”
January 9th, 2014 @ 12:08 pm
They are and they don’t care because they’re already in DC and too many of us won’t throw them out.
January 9th, 2014 @ 2:50 pm
Can you point to just one really smart thing the GOP has done since the Reagan Administration?
January 9th, 2014 @ 3:51 pm
Can’t use those anymore. The coke-heads took them all.
January 9th, 2014 @ 6:02 pm
I’m not so sure about that. I think this is more a case of the GOP (or parts of it) trying to trap Obama with his own rhetoric into admitting publicly that Obamacare was meant to fail and set us up for single-payer, or into admitting that he really doesn’t want to work with the GOP. Either one will cost the Democrats badly at the polls.
January 9th, 2014 @ 7:14 pm
No, and I wish that weren’t the case. The GOP wing of the libtard establishment likes things just as they are.
January 9th, 2014 @ 10:26 pm
What record, where is this record kept, who if anybody will remember this “on the record moment” next week? It’s merely another charade to make us think the republicans give a shit. Nothing but claptrap to bullshit the voters at home.
January 9th, 2014 @ 10:27 pm
They do not.
January 9th, 2014 @ 10:33 pm
Who except the very few of us (most of whom are not impressed) paying attention heard him “called out”?
P.S. I take great pride in being one the nutbars.
January 9th, 2014 @ 10:44 pm
You can’t trap an elephant with a single thread from a spider’s web. What will cost the bolshies at the polls is not what the Republicans say nor anything reported by the press really.
What will hurt them is that millions of people will suffer the ill effects of Ocare and talk about in their daily lives. That is what will keep the story alive in the press. It may be from the press that Georgians learn how many Californians lost their coverage but they’ll know how bad it is locally when two out five of their siblings lose theirs.
January 10th, 2014 @ 4:04 am
So the failure of media – or voters – to pay attention is leadership’s fault, then? I guess if you’re a nutbar, you can blame whoever you choose.

My point is that given the press and the LIVs pretending t0 get something “on the record” is an exercise in failure, compounding that failure Republicans don’t know that or more likely are pretending not to know that.
