The Anthropogenic Global Offgassing Change Climate

That the climate changes is a no-brainer. Of course it does. I admire the Left’s rhetorical trick of silencing opposition at work here, akin to asserting that the Earth rotates, such that anyone daring to fall short of total agreement is claiming a static planet. Bravo. And, also, apparently, the sun doesn’t have anything to do with altering the Earth’s climate. None. A scientist hath issued a bull. Apparently word of Ace’s famous line reached Scotland:

“If only there were some… natural mechanism by which to explain variations in global temperature. It would have to be massive, though. On the scale of our own Sun.

The AGW crowd had to try to beat back the sarcasm, I guess:

Until now, the influence of the sun on past climate has been poorly understood. We hope that our new discoveries will help improve our understanding of how temperatures have changed over the past few centuries, and improve predictions for how they might develop in future. Links between the sun and anomalously cold winters in the UK are still being explored.

Dr Andrew Schurer

School of GeoSciences

Sounds like some great weasel-wording to me, Andy! Quick, let’s mount up the EPA posse and commence to crucify our economy while those “anomalously cold winters” are being further “explored”.

I care about climate and the environment. Conservation is conservative after all, and totally common-sense. Conservation is as common sense as heterosexuality and life beginning when a person’s information is complete, i.e. conception. I truly get conservation. Phil Robertson gets conservation; he needs plenty of great outdoors to give rant-free, non-homophobic interviews like his recent GQ offering, for example.

The pseudo-scientific joke afoot these days is like that of a feedback loop, having all the appeal of a microphone in front of a loudspeaker. This metaphorical Telefunken U47 is set up when public money is given to any group, e.g. the DoD, who are rewarded for Chicken Little-ism. I get it. We’re talking about a business model here. “The Commies are coming! Our precious bodily fluids are threatened!” Appeals to fear work great! What, just because I’m a veteran means I’m verklemmt, and can’t call it like I see it? Any group placing itself beyond criticism is suspect.

“I’ll believe it’s a crisis when the people telling me it’s a crisis start acting like it’s a crisis,” spake the Instapundit.

Two points for the AGW crowd:

(1) Your butt looks big.

(2) You’re going to have to make some personal sacrifices to put some urgency in all this. Do something like head up a project to start doing reverse-osmosis water production, to reclaim desert. If you did that in the Sinai, you might even ease some of the political tensions there.

Maybe I should be more trusting of academics. I guess if they hadn’t spent the last decade cying havok and loosing the hounds of Alinsky, I might take them more at face value, instead of farce value.
Bonus: Rush transcript from August. He’s certainly as authoritative as these AGW rodeo clowns.

IMO, these “scientists” should do all the research and proclamation they wish and can. But not with taxpayer money. Same for most “scientists.” An atom bomb was gotten up in, what, four years? Less? Polio vaccine was created in, what, three years? And how long has cancer “research” been dragging on? And why still no cure? The answer cannot be in the science end. Science would have abolished cancer long since. No. It has to be in the management – taxpayer funding – end.

Curious that even as the evidence AGAINST “AGW” mounts, with more scientists every day warning of a potential cooling cycle and possible coming Ice Age, and others noting the role of the Sun (go figure) in climate changes, the “warmists” are doubling down in a big way like the fascists they are.

Recently the website Reddit announced it will delete “climate denier” comments from threads on the subject so their brain dead little proles won’t get confused by facts, and the LA Times says they will no longer publish “denier” op-eds or letters to the editor.

Reddit will have to face that embarrassment in a few years when the fakirs give up, but LAT will likely be bankrupt and immune from gloating taunts.

On the bright side, a federal appeals court has dismissed the nuisance lawsuit brought by warmist fraud Michael Mann against Mark Steyn and NR for daring to point out that he is a fraud. The suit had been allowed to proceed by a Clinton appointee district judge, reminding us that no matter how much Republicans suck, they are not in fact Democrats, and elections still matter.

Quite so. And not only does government subsidy fund research that goes nowhere, it provides a strong incentive to deny the lack of progress. Privately funded research must show results or at least serious progress year by year, but all a government “researcher” has to do to keep his grant gravy flowing is make sure he doesn’t get cut.

A low profile punctuated by hopeful-sounding progress reports will usually do the trick, while also quietly lobbying against any reduction in government spending at all.

I’ve considered selling “cuss words” and “fidelity” credits. You pay *me* to have a clean mouth and stay faithful and *you* can commit indiscretions up to the number of credits you’ve purchased.

    😉

I’m with Instapundit. I’d even go so far to say that I’d been saying the exact same thing before I ever knew he’d said it.

There isn’t a person on the planet that would say no to abundant clean energy. We, none of us, are in favor of pollution, of dirty air or water. Even if CO2 isn’t a problem, there are still carbon monoxide and soot and all sorts of nasties involved with burning carbon-stuff (petrified *or* fresh). So, CO2-free green energy is a super easy sell to *everyone*… that we don’t have a booming nuclear power industry is proof that there is not a crisis at all. The deniers, nearly to a person, would be on board with Thorium or Bill Gates’s reactor plans… lots of energy… no CO2… burn up existing nuclear waste… The people who won’t do it are the climate catastrophists.

So you got to ask yourself why not?

It’s clearly and demonstrably that they’ve got other priorities, and “abundant” energy is no where on their agenda, not even if it means saving the world.

It’s not science, it’s holy writ. “Thou shalt not dissent.” And they want to use faith to control your politics.

Until they can accurately predict the weather, I’ll treat them like all would-be prophets.

Of course, it would help if their baseline was a bit better. Like a hundred thousand years or so. For a planet that is more than four billion years old, focusing on the last couple of centuries makes less sense than someone using the last second or so to predict if they will will have great great grandchildren.
