Gasp! ‘Nerdgasm’ Spoiled by Discovery of Homophobia Behind ‘Ender’s Game’?

One of the most annoying habits of liberals is their tendency to confuse their political agenda with moral virtue.
It’s never about the efficacy of policy with them. Instead, it’s about voting your way to Heaven: Blessed are those who vote Democrat, for they shall be called the children of Gaia, or something.
So . . . homophobia.
Why is it that (a) opposition to specific policy ideas is routinely conflated with (b) irrational fear and hatred of homosexuals? And why do liberals have to run around pointing the finger of accusation at others, even where no one is remotely in danger of discrimination?
Consider the new movie Ender’s Game, which co-blogger Wombat briefly reviewed earlier. My general antipathy for science fiction aside, I only rarely go out to see movies, and therefore don’t really much care what’s playing at the shopping-mall multiplex.
Perpetual adolescents, however, can’t let go of their childishness, and the first thing you should know about Huffington Post contributor Seth Taylor is that he’s a 43-year-old dude who wears his baseball cap backward, a la every Gen X slacker circa 1993.
If I were wearing shiny polyester shirts, bell-bottoms and platform shoes, I could scarcely be more ridiculously obsolete.
The second thing you should know about Seth Taylor is that he divorced the mother of his child and “came out,” and brandishes his Gay Dad badge like it was the Congressional Medal of Honor, and he’s going to question your patriotism if you don’t salute.
Just wanted to make clear who we’re dealing with here before I share with you Seth Taylor’s bizarre reaction to Ender’s Game:
Last fall, I read a press release announcing that Hollywood was finally making an Ender’s Game movie. I proceeded to have an immediate nerdgasm.
But shortly after the movie announcement was released to the far corners of the Internet, I started seeing more news stories, unexpected ones, about [Ender’s Game author Orson Scott] Card himself, and the fact that he’s widely reputed to be a major bigot. More specifically: a big-time homophobe.
Thanks to the magic of the Internet, several articles and statements have emerged since then, all authored by Card over the years. In a 1990 article, Card postulated about the dangerous “homosexual agenda.” In 2004, he claimed that gay people are the result of child abuse and molestation, and that gay marriage will never count as “real marriage.” And in 2008, he wrote an article for the Mormon Times, arguing that gay marriage will result in the end of American democracy.
Dude, it’s a science fiction movie.
If we all started requiring political litmus tests on cultural products — songs, books, movies, TV shows — what would pass the test? I mean, what if conservatives went back to the Golden Age of Hollywood and started denouncing every movie where the screenwriter or director was subsequently exposed as a Commie or a fellow traveler? Crap, even Ronald Reagan himself couldn’t pass that test, given how he signed up for certain Commie front groups back in the day.
What Seth Taylor unwittingly reveals is how the gay-rights agenda is less about policy than it is about compulsory approval.
There can be only one opinion about homosexuality, namely, whatever opinion Official Gay Leaders™ consider acceptable.
It’s very much akin to the way the NAACP arrogates to itself the authority to dictate acceptable opinions on race or, for that matter, the way certain Official Climate Scientists™ consider it their prerogative to declare the scientific truth about global warming.
Is this kind of Cultural Marxist thought-control stuff “the end of American democracy”? Call me a hater, but maybe you can see why I’m not prepared to say Orson Scott Card was entirely wrong.

I agree on local and even state involvement but, on a national level, what have socons gotten in the past 10 years other than screwed – repeatedly – by candidates who were sold *specifically to US* by the lawless, iniquitous GOP as agreeing with us, but didn’t? The same will happen when Christie is marketed to us as the next Reagan (wait and see).
Feel free to disagree with socons, but you cannot blame us for being bitter.
(It also doesn’t help that, reportedly, more Mormons and Catholics voted for Obama the SECOND time than did the first time, but that’s another issue I have been so unable to fathom I quit trying)

Unless the US changes to a parliamentary system, though, it’s either help elect Obama types or elect a mostly Cino, the Republican candidate. I still think that a mostly Cino wouldn’t have acted the same on DOMA as Obama is acting, so helping elect Obama by not voting for the Cino is worse.
It’s too bad we can’t do an experiment and change the US to a parliamentary system, to see if socons might have a chance to have more real political representation- and change it back if it didn’t happen.

Card has published a mountain of this type of commentary in the indie Greensboro NC print media over the years and its pretty mainstream stuff.
In fact, its rather too respectful of the whole ‘gay’ marriage oxymoron.
If you examine the French root of the word ‘marriage’ it means ‘the combination of diverse elements’.
Since the word ‘homosexual’ inherently gives away the logical impossibility of such relationships living up to the definition, the term ‘gay’ is universally substituted.
Stacy, you might try explaining this to mouth breathing running dogs of the Left like Bill Quick.
Then again, who has time to waste.

What made Ender’s Game a classic is the writing is well beyond “just” science fiction (although it is very good science fiction).

A 41 year old man divorces his wife for the joys of sodomy and makes a public point of it and tells his 10 year old daughter all about it to boot.
We are all just circling in the toilet bowl.

I prefer Shep Smith’s reticence about such matters.

As I mentioned previously, Orson Scott Card isn’t getting a penny of the movie gross, so boycotting the movie is completely pointless on their part:

Yes, remember the tearing of hair and gnashing of teeth by the Hollywood Left when Roman Polanski was finally cornered?

Protection of a 13-14 year old child went by the boards, because he was such a darling of the Left.
What an eff’edd -up set of priorities.

I’ll be going to see this film.
Not just because I liked the original story, but I’ll be d*mned to allow the Gaystapo to tell us that evil is good and good is evil.
Card was right on all counts, BTW.

Exactly, Gates.
Do you recall how the NSDAP, soon after their putsch in the aftermath of the Reichstag fire, vetted Germanic art, music and literature.
That which was deviant art (Unkultur) was condemned, whereas the heroic, realistic art, the only sort which was approved.
It was no longer up to the individual, but determined by the State.
Kind of like your healthcare insurance these days.
See a trend?

Unix,
Take a gander at the public statement of Elia Kazan (ON THE WATERFRONT, STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE), who’d named names during the McCarthy / HUAC hearings.
He published his reasons in a letter to the NY TIMES, saying, among other things, that:
“What I learned was the minimum that anyone must learn who puts his head into the noose of party “discipline.” The Communists automatically violated the daily practices of democracy to which I was accustomed. They attempted to control thought and to suppress personal opinion. They tried to dictate personal conduct.
“They habitually distorted and disregarded
and violated the truth. All this was crudely opposite to their claims of “democracy” and “the scientific approach.”
“To be a member of the Communist Party is to have a taste of the police state. It is a diluted taste but it is bitter and unforgettable. It is
diluted because you can walk out.
“I got out in the spring of 1936.”

I heard someone describe it as ‘unnatural marriage,’ which strikes me as somewhat neutral, but accurate.
There is nothing to ‘marry’ by homosexual sodomy, unless, of course, if you count the HIV virus as offspring.
November 2nd, 2013 @ 9:24 pm
Not ‘we.’
Keep your own identity. That is more important than ever.
It’s just that the Deviants have become more outspoken and are in positions of power and influence.
Let there be a clearer delineation of lines, a separation of goats from sheep.
November 2nd, 2013 @ 9:33 pm
I wouldn’t use the term ‘marry’ at all, as it can be construed to validate an illogical concept and its stunning how virtually no one on the right defends marriage here, at the water’s edge if you will.
Homosexual couplings are not and can not be marriage, period.
My Compact Oxford dictionary uses this example sentence (paraphrased): Her music is a marriage of funk, rock and hip hop.
If the sentence read ‘Her music is a marriage of funk, funk and funk’ then clearly there would be no utility at all in the definition.
November 2nd, 2013 @ 9:47 pm
Which is, btw, Card’s whole point.
The cultural Marxist, ‘gay agenda’ object is to weaken and pervert the meaning of marriage in order to diminish it as the key social foundation stone.
These are despicable motives and are rightly held in contempt.

“If you think people should boycott the movie Ender’s Game…because of Orson Scott Card’s anti-gay marriage remarks, do you also think that people back in the 1940s and 50s were justified in threatening to boycott movies if Hollywood employed Communists as screenwriters?”

[…] Gasp! ‘Nerdgasm’ Spoiled by Discovery of Homophobia Behind ‘Ender’s Game’? […]
November 3rd, 2013 @ 4:05 am
The priority goal of the homosexual agenda is to destroy anyone who says that homosexuality is dysfunctional. The major type of destruction used for this means is first, symbolic, the public tarring and feathering of any such person, conceptualizing them as bad, evil, backwards,
unscientific, or ignorant, followed by their marginalization in all spheres of society: schools, government, workplace, research, and last but certainly not least, spiritual.
Once a person starts using such vocabulary as “gay,” and thinking that “gay” is normal and “just like heterosexuality,” it doesn’t matter anymore whether the debate about homosexuality regards marriage or sex outside marriage, sex with one person or multiple partners, etc. They have already misunderstood the very problem with homosexuality: Homosexuality is dysfunctional and
disordered. Society can make rules and laws to pretend that it only accepts a version of homosexuality that is more bourgeois (like their farcical marriage), but it is already,
in the air, tumbling in a pit of incoherence.
November 3rd, 2013 @ 4:08 am
they are just shlapping a bourgeois façade on their perverted attitudes and behaviors.
Like many liberal heterosexuals, btw.
November 3rd, 2013 @ 4:15 am
Not only that, regarding the discussion on whether to normalize first, and consequently legalize, homosexual marriage:
Estimate for homosexual male domestic violence: 650,000 gay men are annually battered in the US alone (1 in 4). LGBTs have double the rate of interpersonal violence than heterosexuals, and that in a country like this one which has serious issues of violent heterosexuals.
Is it a surprise that modern American society concentrates its energy on Pride Parades and normalizing homosexual marriage instead of looking at how enormously violent homosexuals (and LGBTs) are?
November 3rd, 2013 @ 4:26 am
Me too. I am all for it. So, I don’t criticize the action of boycotts itself, much less of selective consumption.
And given that I have been profoundly discriminated against because I have a healthy ideology about sexuality, there is nothing that liberals/LGBTs deserve more than to be discriminated against for every government, academic, and corporate job.
Either you apply political and ideological litmus tests in your life, or you’re a complete sell-out and corruption enabler.
November 3rd, 2013 @ 4:41 am
Any such pity will just be exploited if it’s not accompanied by a demand for accountability. LGBTs aren’t hapless little babies, they are adults/teens with a perverse mind that goes far beyond sexuality. We need to demand that people with a sexually perverted mind of any kind take responsibility for their psychological problems and try to resolve them.
Most LGBTs feed their own perversions with the rest of their thoughts, attitudes, and ideology. The line that they “didn’t choose their homosexual desires, therefore they aren’t responsible for anything” is nonsense. LGBTs are responsible for trying to resolve the profound problems they have that make them perverted and dysfunctional.

Just yesterday, I had an interaction with a Volokh Conspiracy long-time homosexual agenda commenter (BobSF_94117). Not on the VC blog, because, I, like many other thoughtful social conservatives, have been banned from the VC blog. BobSF was gloating about how many times my speech had been censored on the Internet. This was one of my replies to BobSF:
“If the banning of my speech on several blogs, companies, and institutions is any indication, the only thing we can expect from LGBTs and their supporters is that they will behave like troglodytes towards socons. As you know, one of the more
glaring examples of what hypocrites liberals are comes from one of your favorite hangouts – the VC blog. Volokh makes his little free govt speech claims while banning most socons on his blog.
That’s the level of free speech that we have today in many environments in society. Speech isn’t censored directly by the govt – it’s done indirectly, or it’s censored by other parties; and speakers are also punished and roundly discriminated against – thus no robust debate, only a chilly, very ideologically narrow, if not freezing climate.”
===========
I wrote this on a UK news blog labeled “Catholic.” Nothing could have underscored more my point than what happened next. After interacting with several commenters, all my comments were deleted and I have been banned.
LOL So I guess this blog is “Catholic” as in “gay mafia Catholic” (just like the First Things blog, btw).
I’m going to post all my censored comments of yesterday on my other “Censored comments” blog later.
November 3rd, 2013 @ 6:13 am
I understand your position aberrant psychology is just a symptom. They have the same root problem we all do: sin. Check the first chapter of Romans to find out exactly what is wrong with them (and with all of us by nature), and why the accountability you seek from them is unlikely if not impossible. Christ is their only hope just as He is the only hope of all humans, homosexual or not.
November 3rd, 2013 @ 8:01 am
You shouldn’t let getting censored bother you so much! If you haven’t ad-hommed someone, then you should actually feel honoured that you’ve been scratched…
I’ve been censored and banned too many times to count and it’s no big deal! Of course, I also “reincarnate” on a regular basis…
Also, blogs and forums can ban and censor whomever they wish for any reason, and that shouldn’t trouble you. It’s not really a violation of your “right to free speech”!
Btw, if you’re posting on sites in the UK or the Commonwealth Nations, remember there is no legal right of free speech in those places, and somethings one could get away with saying here in the States are actually criminalised there!
November 3rd, 2013 @ 8:04 am
I enjoy a good sermon. Liked the point about the ultimate futility of human pity (Acts 3:2-8?) Tempted to protest your implied condemnation of tradition, rites, etc, I realize we must instead unite against our common enemies. Deus Vult
November 3rd, 2013 @ 8:36 am
Traditions, rituals or anything else **added to the death, burial and resurrection of Christ specifically for the purpose of gaining or keeping God’s favor** are as filthy rags to Him, for His Son FULLY accomplished ALL that needed be done for our redemption, justification and glorification before Him, all of which resides in His Son. That was my only point, for apart from Christ,
“…we are ALL as an unclean thing, and ALL our righteous acts are as FILTHY RAGS…” [literally, soiled menstrual cloths] (Isaiah 64:6)
Rather, it is,
“NOT by works of righteousness which WE have done, BUT according to His mercy He SAVED us…” [if in fact we are indeed saved, as Paul here assumed] (Titus 3:5)
and,
“For [if indeed you’ve been saved] you are saved by GRACE [God’s undeserved, unearnable favor] through FAITH, and this [salvation] is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift, NOT THE RESULT OF WORKS so that no one may boast” (Eph 2:8-9).
Not aiming this at you at all, but if anyone thinks he can boast to God of anything other than Christ, he is presenting before the Throne a handful of stinking, filthy rags which are an insult to the blood of His Son, and which may well damn him forever.

Re litmus tests, GKC said that for a landlady considering a lodger, it is important to know his income; but it is equally important to know his philosophy. I know many homosexuals who are polite, considerate, friendly, modest, even compassionate and long-suffering. They have many fine qualities and, humanly speaking, are certainly ‘better’ people than I am. But they voted for the regime, they favor abortion on demand, sexual license, gay ‘marriage,’ divorce, etc., and they hate anything resembling orthodox Christianity. It seems to me that across world, the Church is fighting for Her life, and such people are ultimately Her enemies. This must never be forgotten. [Of course, the Church is guaranteed indefectible by God. I mean only that She is fighting for Her rightful place in the world, and for the souls in Her care.]

After we’ve cleared the battlefield of Muslims, Marxists, and their pawns, we can settle this once and for all. Until then, we must be allies.
November 3rd, 2013 @ 9:24 am
I truly do understand your sentiment (how can I post here and not?) but please beware the subtle trap of focusing too closely on this temporal world which – come what may – is presently Satan’s and will eventually unravel and burn no matter what we do or try.
You and I have only the next breath in our lungs separating us from eternity, in light of which all this world is as night’s thin vapor just before the bright sunrise. It’s here, then…gone, whether it perishes first or we do. That’s a good perspective to keep in mind, especially in perilous times like these.
May grace and peace abound to you and yours!
November 3rd, 2013 @ 12:59 pm
Yes. Souls are more valuable than nations, cultures, “liberty,” etc. ‘Give me liberty or give me death,’ is a sinful sentiment (though from a human perspective a noble one) because it is willful, and because it seems to value the gift more than the Giver. But adhering to the principles by which just war may be waged, I believe it is legitimate to shed blood, mine and the enemy’s. And I think a horrible, bloody conflict is nearly inevitable, unless we choose to go peacefully into the cattle cars. ‘What concord hath Christ with Belial, or he that believeth with an infidel?’ ‘I came not to bring peace, but a sword.’ Pax tecum.
November 3rd, 2013 @ 2:01 pm
We now have wars and rumors of wars. The next big event will be worldwide peace the likes of which has never been seen. It will be a FALSE peace, and temporary, but it will seem, for awhile, to be Utopia realized. And the man who brings it will demand, and receive, worship as God.
