It’s been nearly a month since I’ve written anything about accused sex offender Kaitlyn Hunt, whose supporters seem to think there should be a “lesbian loophole” in statutory rape laws. The “Free Kate” movement has undergone a substantial meltdown since the glory days of May, when Kaitlyn was featured on the Today show, before the facts of the case were widely know (See SupportHonesty.net).

The most recent news is that Kaitlyn Hunt’s trial in Indian River County, Florida, which had been scheduled for Sept. 9, has been postponed indefinitely because Circuit Court Judge Robert Pegg has to hear a murder trial. Meanwhile, Jeanette Runyon has been keeping tabs on the “Free Kate” activists and reports that one of the Facebook group’s administrators is the mother of a notorious felon, Zachary Rose, who was convicted in federal court in May:

The mastermind behind a multimillion-dollar Jacksonville pill mill operation that illegally sold painkillers to thousands, including a man who died from an overdose, pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to a drug conspiracy charge.
Zachary Timothy Rose, 27, faces a maximum of 30 years in prison and the forfeiture of $3.1 million in cash after pleading guilty to conspiring to illegally distribute oxycodone and Xanax. Rose also agreed not to file an appeal in the case and has offered to cooperate against co-defendants.
The plea before U.S. Magistrate Jim Klindt allowed Rose to avoid a possible mandatory life sentence on a charge of aiding and abetting in the 2010 overdose death of a Jacksonville man who received oxycodone from one of Rose’s clinics. The aiding and abetting charge and a money-laundering charge were dropped as part of the plea agreement.

According to TheDirty.com, Zachary Rose was a party animal who loved the nightlife, clubbing in Atlanta and Miami. He had a criminal record dating back at least to 2005, when he was arrested on a cocaine charge in Tallahassee. When he turned himself in to authorities in 2011, he said he had been treated for mental illness since childhood and — oh, by the way — he’s got herpes:

When asked by the judge, Rose said he was on medications relating to a bipolar condition he said he was diagnosed with in 2007, painkillers from a back injury and other medicines to treat genital herpes.
He said the painkillers are “kind of an on-and-off thing” and that he was an “experimental child,” referring to the several medications he said doctors prescribed him as he grew up with mental health conditions.

Jeanette’s identification of “Free Kate” Facebook administrator Deb Rose as this man’s mother seemed to me circumstantial. But then a Twitter account popped up with a few choice words.

    As I have previously said — in regard to Gary Herndon — bad causes attract bad people. Many of the supporters of Kaitlyn Hunt seem to have very personal reasons to be hostile to law enforcement.

    The entire object of the “Free Kate” movement, remember, is to subvert Florida’s age-of-consent laws — not a cause that one would expect decent law-abiding citizens to support. At first, before the facts were widely known, and when Steven Hunt’s petition created the idea that the two girls were barely two years apart in age, many decent people did support the case, which was made to seem a matter of unfair discrimination. Once the facts were known, however, mainstream support evaporated and the hard-core supporters were revealed to be a pretty shady bunch.

    Last month, four admins were reportedly purged from the “Free Kate” group because they wouldn’t sign confidentiality agreements. Now we learn that one of the remaining admins is the mother of a notorious felon? Kinda relevant, I would say.

    I’m not normally one to feed into things like this, but this entire situation is built on a foundation of lies perpetrated by the parents of Kaitlyn Hunt, first and foremost, her father. While I do not know much about her mother, I have personal experience with both her father and stepmother. Her father Steven is a philandering scum bag who beats his wife(past & present). He has been arrested for fraud & he was asked to leave the Melbourne police department because he sought out a man with whom he had quarreled with and asked(threatened) to “drop it” by means of intimidation and abuse of force. He was fired from his last job for theft, as was his wife, who now works at a bank!!!!?? They are conniving, dishonest people. They make/keep friends based on what is beneficial to them or what is easiest at the time. I’m not surprised they are trying to make this issue about same sex in order to circumvent the law. While I do not necessarily agree with the law in a situation like this where they are peers in an environment like high school, I feel as though this approach is simply a scapegoat to gain sympathy and distract from the truth. I have a gay siblings and this infuriates me. The Kaitlyn Hunt case IS NOT A GAY ISSUE!

    It most certainly IS a “gay issue”! While other nefarious groups may be riding on their coattails, the homosexuals are indeed leading the charge in the assault on age-of-consent laws, and #FreeKate still has the implicit support of all the major gay rights organisations!

    I worked with her father and step mother both at their last job and can I just say this is ABSOLUTELY correct! They are both thieves, they think they are God’s gift to earth, not to mention how rude they both are. I also have something to add about both of them, they both cheated on each other just a few weeks before they got married. They are the ones turning this into a gay issue just so she doesn’t get in trouble. If you can’t to the time, don’t do the crime. It’s as simple as that.
