Great: Voters Legalize Marijuana, Unions Put Munchies-Maker Out of Business

Some stoner in Colorado just put down the bong, looked at the TV and said, “Dude. No more Twinkies or Ho-Ho’s? Bummer.”
Hostess, the makers of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Wonder Bread, is going out of business after striking workers failed to heed a Thursday deadline to return to work, the company said.
“We deeply regret the necessity of today’s decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike,” Hostess CEO Gregory F. Rayburn said in announcing that the firm had filed a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to shutter its business. “Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders.” . . .
In announcing its decision, Hostess said its wind down would mean the closure of 33 bakeries, 565 distribution centers, approximately 5,500 delivery routes and 570 bakery outlet stores in the United States.
Hostess suspended bakery operations at all its factories and said its stores will remain open for several days to sell already-baked products. In the Chicago area, there were reports of Hostess products flying off the shelves.
On the bright side, the weeders can still enjoy Papa John’s pizza.

The Teamsters are/were the biggest union at Hostess, and they approved the new contract. However, union number two, the lollipop guild (or whatever) said no way, no how, and now Hostess and the Teamsters are screwed. That’s a lot of union dues the Teamsters won’t be collecting. I wonder how the Teamsters are feeling about their union brethren at the lollipop guild about now.

The workforce at Malta Windows went on strike. The union was warned they had better settle, or the jobs would be lost. The head of the County Extension Office went and talked to the workers on the picket line and warned them there was nothing else on the horizon, so they better deal with management.
They refused, pooh poohing the warning and saying they would not be dictated to, or “screwed.” Malta Windows shuttered the plant and sold the assets. The workers deeply hurt themselves and Morgan County. Unions are often run by idiots for idiots.
A pox on the union’s houses.

If I could draw, I’d draw a gang of union thugs brutally murdering Twinkie the Kid.

Most of the unions in this country have been taken over by Socialists and Communists like Richard Trumka. Therefore, the leadership of these unions is dedicated to the same goals as are Obama, Jarrett, Axelrod, et. al.: bringing down the whole American System.
The now ex-Hostess workers will go on the temporary dole [unemployment] and either get government jobs eventually or leave the workforce for the welfareforce.

Twinkie goes Galt and leaves two greedy dumb struck unions standing around with their d*ck in their hands, no jobs and poor prospects.
I wonder what those codsuckers think of collective bargaining now?

Freaking morons, striking in todays economy where they’re fortunate to even have jobs? I’ll need a moment of silence for the cupcakes and tiger tails please……and a stiff drink…..it’s a tragedy. If we get our goodies back it will either be from some plant in China or a RIGHT TO WORK state here at home. Oh and I read some headline today that said Wal Mart employees were going out on strike on the biggest shopping day of the year, next Friday, because they had been asked to pay more for their medical benefits……JUST LIKE EVERY ONE ELSE UNDER OBAMACARE WILL HAVE TO DO). Hell, I didn’t even know they were union. Did someone forget to fill out the waiver application or what?

I hope they’re thinking about all of their underfunded pensions.

The Wal-Mart workers are non-union, unrecognized groups that just happen to be advised by the unions who want in.
What this country needs is more business leaders with the attitude of the late Sam Walton, who welcomed union elections in any of facilities and promised to immediately shut down any that voted it in.

Wonder how the 13,000 people who were not part of the baker’s union and didn’t get a vote feel about the 5,000 who put them out of a job by being stubborn?
