The Triumph of Androgyny
Posted on | November 12, 2012 | 30 Comments
“O wonder! How many goodly creatures are there here! How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world that has such people in it!“
Katie Hill and her boyfriend Arin Andrews share a unique bond — they were both born as the opposite sex.
Katie, 18, spent the first 15 years of her life as Luke, son of a Marine colonel, while Arin, 16, was born a girl called Emerald who excelled at ballet dancing and won beauty contests.
Both struggled with their sexuality all through their childhoods and were teased and bullied but their lives were changed when they both began hormone therapy and later met at a trans support group in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and instantly fell in love. . . .
High-school student Arin undergoes testosterone shots to give him the more masculine shape he’s craved his whole life. Meanwhile high-school graduate Katie, 18, has finished her female hormone course — oestrogen shots — which helped her to develop natural breasts with no silicone implants.
Katie, who has legally been a female since she was 15, believes she was born with naturally high levels of oestrogen and was teased as a boy throughout school for having small AA-cup breasts.
An anonymous donor was so touched by her story they paid for her £25,000 ($40,000) gender reassignment surgery just four days after her 18th birthday on May 16, 2012.
Welcome to the The Rocky Horror Picture Show as reality.

I personally think this is nutty (or lack of nuts as the case may be), but if they want to pursue it let them do it. The problem is sexuality, orientation and hormones are complicated. Some people do not fit in. But unfortunately, surgery usually does not “fix it.” Again, it should not be state funded, but if switching genders works for you, go for it. At least make them wait till they are 18.
Larry went to Lana: But it still didn’t stop Cloud Atlas from sucking.

What if you were born transgendered, and want to be made into a non-transgendered gender?
I think they should all have surgery to look like teletubbies.

Mental illness can not be cured by surgery. There may well be something organic wrong that manifests mentally, but it will not be cured by surgery.
Any bets that their surgery would be covered by Zer0Care?

SOT, but methinks Tinky Winky should be questioned in the Easy Elmo Case:

I have no doubt such surgery would be. I mean, come on, it’s much more important that these crazy kids get this stuff them letting seniors have chemo!

Unfortunately, “she” still has a Y chormisome, and “he” still is XX…that, you can never change.
November 12th, 2012 @ 5:36 pm
But you can’t change their DNA…”she” still has that Y chromisome, and “he” still has XX. That is how they are. That is how they shall remain, no matter what damange a surgeon does to the shell.

No, Evi, it’s not “complicated”. Its really rather simple. XY, or XX, you can’t change the basic building blocks of their identities. You can only “fool” mother nature, you can’t change it.

The Gift of the Magi 2012.

You are right on xy xx, but sexual identity for some people is complicated. Whether it is nuts not (I lean toward the first option) people have the right to screw up their lives. Just not on my nickel.

Nice! It should be updated to address this!

In the movie version this transgendered couple can meet at Pete’s Tavern at Gramercy Park.

But Rich, they are in love! If they want to take a scalpel to their fun parts, who are we to judge.

You just don’t believe in love, do you?

Why didn’t they surgically implant Katie’s thingamabob in the appropriate place on Arin’s anatomy? It would be kind of like Mr. Potatohead for reals.

Trans Gender surgery is to be paid for by San Fracisco Taxpayers!

It’s now free in Sf, covered by the City.

I’m pretty sure they will at some point be able to “fix” it through gene therapy.

Defining deviancy as normal, three examples…
Because sometimes, serendipity strikes. Girl who was boy meets boy who was girl. It’s love at first hormone shot. Or as Stacy McCain calls it, The Rocky Horror Picture Show as reality television….

Exactly.
These two want to engage in a massive denial of Reality. Their surgeries will not solve their psychological problems. This is why John Hopkins stopped performing such surgeries in the 1980’s.

More likely The Ramrod Room.
