ELECTION DAY UPDATES

GAHANNA, Ohio
Years of Election Day coverage have provided me with a traditional routine: Sleep late or get a nap and ignore as much of the inevitable panic as I can.
Remember the absurd reaction to the 2004 exit polls? A leak of morning results gave Democrats a false hope of victory. That was followed (as false hopes always are) by an outrage at being “cheated” out of what they thought they had “won.” But they were losing all along.
Anecdotal information about turnout — how many people were standing in line to vote here or there, et cetera — is only valuable if the data has specific and verifiable data points that can be compared to previous years. Telling me that turnout is “heavy” in a certain location only increases the noise-to-signal ratio. Likewise, unverified reports of voting-machine glitches aren’t helpful. Until the famously contested election of 2000, nobody ever said a peep about malfunctioning or “rigged” machines, but now the scare-stories multiply endlessly year to year. Nothing ever comes of such tales.
OK, a brief afternoon survey of headlines:
True the Vote observers barred
from Franklin County polling places
— Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch
DETROIT POLLS: OBAMA CAMPAIGNER
PUNCHES VOTER IN FACE
— Breitbart.com
Romney up 92K in OH early voting?
— HotAir.com

— Fox News

You’re saying, “Wait? What does Lindsay Lohan have to do with Election Day?” Dude. She endorsed Romney, remember? Voter suppression!
Win, lose, or draw, we’re gonna be up late tonight, and the best thing to do is to avoid unnecessary stress. My advice to you is to start drinking heavily. Readers are welcome to provide their own reports, or link to useful information, in the comments.
I’ll be checking in with more news as I find it.
UPDATE: Some helpful information:
When FIRST results come in from #Ohio. Do not panic. Please do not. Obama’s margin of 5-15% will be normal and beatable.

Talked to sources on the @teamromney campaign. They’re happy.

UPDATE II: Instead of panicking over every rumor, how about getting an early start on your Christmas shopping at our Amazon Associates store? Low prices for you, and a small commission for me. What a deal!
UPDATE III: A few items from the Twitter feed:
Dear #p2 Democrats: When making excuses for defeat tonight, remember, there are 5 A’s in “RAAAAACISM!”
— Robert Stacy McCain (@rsmccain) November 6, 2012

Don’t worry, @fivethirtyeight. After Romney wins, he’ll create 12 million new jobs. There’s a 92% probability you’ll get one of them.

I just drove by my polling station to get an idea of what the situation was. Now, I live in a very liberal precinct in San Antonio which is represented by Charlie Gonzalez (aka: Nancy Pelosi’s toy poodle). This is the same US Representative who thinks the Consitution is not really the “law of the land”, but more like a set of principles to “guide” us. We don’t actually have to follow it.
Anyway, so I live in a part of town where the Obama signs in 2008 were growing like weeds. Today, there are hardly any. There are a bunch of Romney signs several blocks up.
So I drove by the elementary school expecting the Obama crowd to slink out of the woodwork in sufficient numbers to constitute…well something of a showing. At least a line. But nothing. There were, maybe 5 cars parked on the street.
I voted early and the lines at early voting were 15-20 people deep all day long for two weeks. Now the early voting poll combined precincts and there were A LOT of Romney voters there.
My liberal precinct isn’t showing up today.

My wife and I voted this morning in Precinct 8 of the 2nd District of Maryland (Wynands Elementary School). We waited and hour and a half to get to the polls, and we arrived 15 min BEFORE it opened @ 7 am.
It’s a majority black precinct…and ALL of the workers were wearing Obama buttons, hats or t-shirts. When I tried to get a picture of the workers, they called the cops…they were also telling people the must turn off their cell phones.
I’d file a complaint, but this is the People’s Republic of Maryland…
Voted FOR Question 1, 2, 3 and 7 and against Questions 4, 5 and 6.

I also went by my polling location in League City, Texas (highest per capita concealed carry permits in the state) and saw a half full parking lot and not much action. Most people early voted. Very few Obama supporters here. Must be some correlation to hand gun permits and low crime rate.

Voted early this morning here *in* Gahanna, OH (wave if you drive past!). Turnout at 6a was pretty good for my little neck of the woods — I was 30th in line, having arrived before the polls officially opened. Don’t watch TV, so keeping track of the election process completely via online reports! Thanks so much for all the updates & work from the Heart of it All!

I am off Twitter for the day. I says I went over 1000 tweets for the day. Not even close. I sense the Twitter Fail Whale will be coming soon, especially when real data starts flowing.
Exit polling is not worth anything early on.http://evilbloggerlady.blogspot.com/2012/11/dont-trust-early-exit-polls.html Don’t trust it.

I’m not bothering with twitter either. I’m getting the data straight from the Secretary of State websites for each individual state. Most of them post real-time returns on their sites and they’re more accurate than what you’ll get from the MSM.

Is Charlie Gonzalez related to Henry Gonzalez? Henry was a congresscritter when I lived down near Lackland just before my father retired from the Air Farce. Henry acted like an idiot and I’m sure Charlie is just following tradition.

Charlie is his son. And way worse than the father. He is retiring this year, but god knows what we have in his place now.
