Arlen Specter Dies at Age 82

Posted on | October 14, 2012 | 21 Comments

One should never speak ill of the dead, and therefore I will merely note that there is one less RINO in the world.

By contrast, Charlie Crist is still alive, so there’s probably no harm in saying that if Charlie got hit by a bus tomorrow, I’d be doing cartwheels.

UPDATE: Random meteorological observation:

Arlen was never a Republican…nor was he ever a RINO…he was always a Democrat and an opportunist.

Let his passing be mourned, if it is mourned at all, by the Democrats who rejected him in their 2010 primary.

Old Bolsheviks never die, at least not soon enough.

The consummate politician. That is not a compliment.

    I denounce myself.

In truth, Specter was both a RINO and a DINO. All he cared about was his own career.

To be fair to the guy, his career did have a couple of bright spots. He was a key investigator for the Warren Commission, and as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee in the Senate he was able to walk through a good number of decent judges.

As a born and raised Pennsylvanian, I spent 30 years screaming at his perfidy, but, and you have to come from the Philadelphia area to appreciate this, when he was a crime-busting DA, he and Frank Rizzo, first as Police Commissioner and then as Mayor, made a great crime-fighting team.

Enough to make people want to come back into Center City again because it was safe again.

God worked his magic? I know that’s bad. But I couldn’t resist because he was exactly as Rich described below.

If flag-burning is speech — and SCOTUS has ruled that it is — then so are cartwheels.

Then again, I’ve never really subscribed to the “never speak ill of the dead” thing. I was told it’s, “One should only speak good of the dead,” therefore in the case of today’s news I happily remark, “Good.”

Looks like Jon Huntsman will have to carry on with the Arlen Specter Comedy Tour by himself. Hmmm, wonder if Crist is available.

Stacy, please die soon. I want to dance upon your grave, your rotten teeth and your bloated liver. Your inbred kids won’t miss you, your wife certainly won’t miss your disgusting breath and the media will not know you’re even gone, you’re that useless.

Please, please, die already. I look forward to that day.

Now that Arlen has left us to receive his reward from that caucus in the sky, all I can offer is how I will always picture him whenever I hear his name.

I will always remember him from Jerry Della Femina’s book FROM THOSE WONDERFUL FOLKS WHO BROUGHT YOU PEARL HARBOR. Apparently JDF was hired to do ads for Specter’s first campaign and asked, “So, what is Arlen Specter for?”
    “Arlen Specter is for winning.”
(brief silence) “Okay. What’s he against?”
    “Arlen Specter is against losing.”
That pretty much sums the man up, no?
