$105,000 Worth of Champagne

Posted on | September 19, 2012 | 16 Comments

What else would you expect to drink when you attend a fundraiser for the Man Who Stopped the Rise of the Oceans?

President Barack Obama attended a fundraiser at Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club in Manhattan that featured a champagne tower of 350 bottles worth $105,000 — more than twice the median household income of an American family.
The tower of $300-a-bottle Armand de Brignac Brut Gold . . . is a permanent fixture at the club. ‘It’s floor-to-ceiling gold bottles in the entire space,’ a 40/40 representative told the New York Post. ‘It’s beautiful—breathtaking. It’s the first thing you see when you walk in.’ The median income for an American family was $51,413 in 2011.

Obama campaign slogan 2008: “Change We Can Believe In.”

Obama campaign slogan 2012: “Living Well Is the Best Revenge.”

BTW, don’t confuse this with the “excellent armagnac” served at Chez McCain to members of the Elite Cabal of Bloggers to which The Lonely Conservative was not invited.

Obama did at least show his compassion for the common people. He prohibited any pictures of the champagne pyramid so they wouldn’t feel bad.

Weird, RSM. I had you pegged as a brewski kind of guy, for the most part. Maybe a shot of whisky every once in a while.

I had champagne at lunch this afternoon. Should I feel guilty?

‘E’s given up the Jamison’s – or so I’ve been told.

I’d rather it was from a sense of decent shame.

I just wonder if Obama put his feet up on the “permanent fixture.”

BTW, Champagne isn’t a long-storing product, so how can it be permanent? No, it’s gonna get consumed.

Yes, because you are not a Democrat!

Was it really champagne, or just bubbly domestic wine? Because Democrats disdain the domestic stuff, no matter how good, and go for status stuff, regardless of real value.

I understand from my betters in the MFM that this type of display makes Obama in touch with the people unlike that Romney fellow who has to hide his monocle and tophat from the peasants. It’s nice to see Obama reveal his commoner side.

Um, if you can get that stuff for $300 a bottle in bulk, buy it! $800 at Jay-Z’s club.

The good news was the Obamas were able to find a good babysitter for their daughters. The bad news is they couldn’t find one for Biden – special needs sitters are so hard to come by for the hoi polloi.

Obviously, the bottles are empties, probably supplied free of charge as a promotional effort. Any value the display may have would be as an objet d’art rather than the purported champagne..

They can’t be worth $105,000 then. As empties, they are worth about $150.00 in labor to build the display.
