Commenting on some recent events, and quite interesting:

How many of the purported Republicans and/or conservatives that have been pronouncing Romney a sure loser in the last three weeks are among those that, during the primaries, said the GOP had to nominate him because he was the only one who could win?
Of those, how many have close ties to Jeb Bush?
If Jeb ever wants to be President, Romney needs to lose this election.
As Stacy sometimes says, “I’m just askin’ . . .”
But I do think it would make a hell of an interesting blog post for someone that had time to trace it down.

This would imply a Bushian conspiracy for dynastic revival.

    Should we expect anything different from the GOP Establishment? Always ready to grovel at the Media’s tables for scraps. Better at surrendering than the French. Always telling us only they can win, and yet never actually winning.

    What’s the over-under on how many times Mitt will have become a sure loser before November?

    I get why the left wing media / pundits keep saying that. But as for everyone else, this just demonstrates how important it is to keep perspective. Every campaign has its ups and downs, and if you take the conventional wisdom of the left too seriously, it’s easy to panic.

    We’re never ever gonna elect someone named Bush, for the same reason a Custer will never be elected to national office. “Bush” is forever synonymous with half-measure. That means “loser.” Patton was right – America can’t stand losers. No more Bushes!

    What utter paranoid nonsense!

    First of all, the idea that “If Jeb ever wants to be President, Romney needs to lose this election” is laughable. Jeb’s 59. He has plenty of time and opportunity.

    Second, the idea that Jeb or the Bush family had that much influence with either the MSM or the conservative press is just laughable. Same goes for the “GOP Establishment,” such as there is such a thing, which served both Bushes but were never commanded by either.

    The “senior Republicans” bad mouthing Romney in Politico and elsewhere are most likely Weaver, Schmidt, and Wallace, former McCainiacs all – if they even exist. The MSM is hardly above inventing anonymous sources to make their lies sound more credible. They win Pulitzers for that crap.

    This completely ignores populist conservatives, who have won quite a few seats in the House and Senate. As Rush frequently says, real conservatives running on conservative platforms win elections.

    We are sorely afflicted with a parade of clowns on the right who believe they can earn more street cred by running counter to the sympathies of conservatives; especially whenever conservatives are gaining any traction in the world of political discourse.

    It’s simple marketing: do whatever it takes to get attention, even if it’s totally negative. Then, turn around and act like a champion of conservatism once all the people are talking about you.

    George (freaking) Will does it; Krauthammer excels at it; Rove… nevermind, Rove is never with conservatives; Glenn Beck does it–a lot; Laura Ingraham and Anne Coulter do it to the point I can’t listen to either anymore. Several bloggers on the right do it (you know who they are). And there’s Bill “momentum kill” Kristol and Rich Lowry. Sorry folks, but a stopped clock is useless.

    They don’t have the work ethic to do what Stacy does, which is gain traction via hardboiled, gonzo journalism, or what Mark Levin does, by sticking with a studied philosophy no matter what. (I’m really glad Mark dropped most of the self-aggrandizing crap he used to engage in before Obama came to power–just does it a little bit, now and then).

    This is one area where I actually admire guys like Ron Paul. He’s nuts on several aspects of public policy, but he’s right on several, and sticks with his philosophy no matter what anyone thinks. Same with guys like Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams. They don’t fool with Howard Stern tactics to gain audience.

    So no, it’s not just the Bushies. It’s all of those pundits who think politics is just their career, not *our* liberties and our lives.

    As an anodyne to these clowns, I recommend a vid Scoop posted recently of the “Trifecta” guys. Bill Whittle delivers the attitude I wish the folks in my third paragraph had. Wow, what a line he closed with!

    (BTW, I like Beck’s new channel on Dish Network. He’s the very definition of peripatetic thinker, but he’s got a good product happening.)

    Mini rant: Sorry Hollywood, but adult humans have body hair. People who think it’s ugly are kidding themselves, or they’ve bought into the marketing hype of the “beauty” industry. We aren’t Roswell aliens.
