E-Mail From Mrs. Akin
Posted on | August 21, 2012 | 42 Comments
Depressed by the Politics of Dumb, I went to bed early, but woke up after an hour and checked my e-mail to find . . . this:
Dear Friends,
My husband is a man of principle and courage. He’s a great husband and a wonderful father to our daughters and sons, but he’s not perfect. He made a mistake and he apologized for it. Now we need to move forward and defeat Claire McCaskill.
Todd is 100% pro-life, Claire is 100% pro-abortion. Claire was the deciding vote in support of Obamacare, she voted for the failed “stimulus” and was Barack Obama’s biggest cheerleader when he ran for President in 2008.
For all these reasons, Claire needs to go. We need your help today to defeat Claire in November.
Donate $3 right now to show that you’re in this fight with Todd!
Sincerely,
Lulli Akin
Go home, Mrs. Akin, to your selfish husband. Go home, I say, and please pray that your husband’s stupidity and narrow ambition — which have already guaranteed the re-election of Claire McCaskill — have not also guaranteed us another four years of Obama.
Go home, foolish woman, and stay there, and remind us no more of this horrible disgrace that you and your husband have imposed upon us.

You are a fool. Akin was speaking in a legal since distinguishing between forcible and statutory rape. He in no way suggested that rape is ever morally legitimate. He is also right about the biology that under duress, mammals can shut down ovulation and other processes that lead to pregnancy. He DID NOT say that rape never results in pregnancy. Take a lesson in basic English and logic and stop trashing this good man and his good family.
August 21st, 2012 @ 11:16 pm

And the Republican estab. will almost GUARANTEE he loses by refusing to help win. Just because he said something stupid and/or not in the orthodoxy of our OPPONENTS.
So who’s really being selfish here? I think he should’ve stepped down but it’s his right to not do so. The Republican Estab. put him in the gunsights by their hair trigger call for his removal. Thus handing (admittedly with Akin’s help) McCaskill a good sound bite for her campaign.
Now Akin’s made his decision. Are we really going to let him fail?
That’s selfish and stupid.
August 21st, 2012 @ 11:20 pm
http://evilbloggerlady.blogspot.com/2012/08/todd-akin-is-not-dropping-out-who-is-to.html I hope Akin wins, but he really has to take the responsibility for his decision to stay in given the circumstances. I will support conservatives but I only have so much money and it is not going to Akin.
August 21st, 2012 @ 11:27 pm
That’s no way to treat a lady, Stacy.
Methinks you’re exhausted. Kick back, have a beer, watch a movie.

August 21st, 2012 @ 11:31 pm
David, we don’t need you to run behind Akin as if you were his very own personal Axelrod and parse the insanity that came out of his mouth.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 12:01 am
David…the duress you speak of must occur over months. Like how female world class marathoners, long-distance swimmers or triatheletes in training will halt ovulation, that kind of stress will halt ovulation. (It is called dysmenorrhea, BTW) Rape, whether legal or statutory, is not going to cause it.
A rape victim may end up with interrupted menses due to the trauma of the event, but that is after the fact. Saying a woman can’t get pregnant when she is violently raped is about as ignorant as saying a woman can’t get pregnant during menstruation.
BTW, as for women getting pregnant during rape, google the phrase “genetic legacy of Genghis Khan”.

Where have I heard “Donate $3” before? Oh, yes, Obama fundraising emails. Brilliant, simply brilliant.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 12:21 am
“pray that your husband’s stupidity … have not also guaranteed us another four years of Obama.”
And here I thought only Leftist Liberal Loonies were so irrational as to draw such ridiculous conclusions.
If Akin’s idiocy could possibly ruin Romney/Ryan’s chances to win the White House, then their chances were already poor.
It seems to me that all of this chicken-hearted willingness to throw Akin under Obama’s bus demonstrates that Republicans are too gutless to win elections.
But then, I’ve suspected for some time now that Republicans – especially Establicans – would rather remain the Minority Party anyway; it’s so much easier to complain from the sidelines than to actually, y’know, solve the Nation’s problems or anything.…
August 22nd, 2012 @ 12:21 am
He is more disgusted I think but I agree your prescription is a good one.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 12:45 am
He didn’t make a mistake. He spoke near and utter gibberish about some non-technical belief. He apparently assumes it is truly biological or physiological fact. The word ‘legitimate’ has almost no bearing. The rest of it is the worst possible nonsense a person could speak and ultimately delivers a huge blow to any of those who are pushing in the pro-life direction.
To act as if it were a minor mistake is to be complicit. He is proving his arrogance and self-importance by resisting. It is clear he sees himself as an entitled elected class person. He has, after all, been in politics for decades. Does he REALLY imagine this will be ovecome shortly and his campaign will be on track? Does he think by holding out he will get the national party and all of the PACs, not to mention all of the public figures, Romney included, that have called for his exit to simply reverse their words and support him? That is delusional. He has decided to go it perfectly alone. He is entitled, it seems to me.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 1:17 am
I am in agreement with most of the comments herein. Stacy, your reaction and that of the easily herded PC “conservatives” are over the top. The hysteria on the Right over Akin’s gaffe surely provides McCaskill with a lot of undeserved ammunition. Expect to see it repeated in McCaskill’s political ads over the next few weeks. Nice going.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 1:19 am
Challeron, I love you!
August 22nd, 2012 @ 1:25 am
http://evilbloggerlady.blogspot.com/2012/08/mad-king-michael-bloomberg-has-plan-to.html Cheer up, there is always more crazy.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 1:25 am
Akin made his own bed. I hope
he winsshe loses. But if you want to contribute that is up to you.August 22nd, 2012 @ 1:26 am
Defeatism is pretty silly. Very few victories – in politics, war, business, boxing or chess – are won in a straight line march. There are always setbacks, unforeseen counter-blows by the opponent, mistakes. Ike used to say even the best battle plans could be scrapped once the first shot was fired.
Besides, McCaskill is very unpopular in MO for her strong support of Obama and ObamaCare. McCain won the state easily, Romney will, too, by a larger margin. It’s possible Akin will relent and drop out and can be replaced. It’s possible a write-in could win, although I’m unclear how MO works on those. No “sore losers” can run, but another is already being touted. And it is even conceivable the GOP groups will come back in to fund Akin if he can demonstrate he’s survived in the polls past the absolute deadline, and he could win.
Even losing the seat isn’t a net loss, we can still win the White House and just need a net +3, and there are a number of possiblities.
One things for sure: if we have to go off and have a good cry every time we get hit, we won’t be able to be fighting to win.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 1:36 am
http://evilbloggerlady.blogspot.com/2012/08/if-you-hate-obamacare-then-gop-really.html We can win back the Senate. Dig deep!
August 22nd, 2012 @ 1:42 am
Setting aside whether or not what Akin said is factual, we all know that the majority of people don’t bother to inform themselves on the issues or fact check the information they receive, and most get their news from sound bytes. This controversy is about public perception, and the majority, rightly or wrongly, now see Akin as a nut job who is unworthy of the public trust.
I don’t think that the Akin gaffe puts Romney’s election in jeopardy, but it certainly puts a GOP senate majority in jeopardy at a time when we need the majority to overturn Obamacare. Putting the senate back in GOP hands is equally as important as sending Obama back to Chicago, and Todd Akin has chosen to put his own personal ambitions over the larger goal of undoing the damage that the SCOAMF has wrought.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 2:25 am
“Personal ambitions” is a little harsh – he gave up a safe House seat, won the nomination fair and square even if the no-runoff system is stupid, so if he quits he is unemployed and so are all of his staff, and also the campaign staff. Everybody’s out of work who has worked for him. Tough decision to take in three days.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 2:36 am
Mrs. Akin, with all due respect, you can help defeat Clair McCaskill by telling your husband to get out of the race and throw his support behind someone who actually has a chance of winning, and won’t jeopardize the future of the nation, as your husband WILL if he insists on staying in the race.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 8:27 am
I think every single non-leftist person could have been silent and McCaskill as well as the national Democrat party would have used his words against him just as much. They are an invaluable gift. It isn’t a matter of the misuse of one word, or of simply making a misstatement. Except to those who perhaps believe a woman’s body can block pregnancy under certain conditions, or whatever gibberish he uttered. At least there are some (many?) sane non-leftists on the record, calling him out for the kook he appears to be. For the next months I predict Akin will not be able to get through a single public appearance without directly being asked what he really meant/thinks or without some reference to his words – like a replay of the gibberish clip by local MO media after a clip of his stump speech.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 8:39 am
Well put.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 8:59 am
Today is the first time – I’m 55 – I’ve heard the word dysmenorrhea.
I am not fit to hold office. As a Republican.
Signed, member of one of the fifty seven states.
PS: RSM, you couldn’t be more wrong about this. They’re handing you rope and you’re throwing it over the transom for them.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 9:01 am
And you can’t see how impossibly circular that is?
August 22nd, 2012 @ 9:04 am
In other words, the likely ends justify the establishment right’s immediate means.
You’re a walking testament to the folly of that right adopting the left’s narrative.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 9:23 am
There’s time when I roll my eyes after reading Adjoran, and times I am struck by his good sense and deep insight. This is one of those latter times.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 9:29 am
Speaking of gibberish. I don’t know what you just said. You rebutted nothing nor offered any new perspective. Do you agree with Akin? Do you think his statement about resisting pregnancy is an example of a poor choice of words or taken out of context?
August 22nd, 2012 @ 9:30 am
Selfish and stupid pretty much defines the Establishment. There is a reason Instapundit says we have the worst political class…
August 22nd, 2012 @ 10:16 am
What I can’t get over is seeing and hearing prominent Republicans washing their dirty linen in public. Perhaps there’s a death wish of sorts in operation.
It would have been far better to handle this quietly, with all requests to Akin done privately. As it is, the man’s pride was assaulted, almost forcing him to stand up for himself, and tons of ammunition were handed to the Dems to be used not merely against Akin but against every other pro-life Republican, starting with Paul Ryan.
I can understand Romney getting nervous and spouting off, but I cannot understand old pros, of whom Carl Rove is the foremost example, shooting from the hip in this fashion. Had Republicans avoided public pronouncements and counseled Akin in private he might have withdrawn voluntarily. Certainly the fuss would have blown over by the time the next big news story came along. As it is, the Akin gaffe will resonate for weeks.
And all for a relatively minor matter. It’s not as if he thought Guam would make like a new Atlantis and slide into the ocean, nor as if he believed a 0.01 percent increase in the CO2 level would broil all life on Earth, nor as if he thought a nation could spend itself rich. It’s not as if this one gaffe was the equal of those made weekly by Joe Biden or Obama.
We still need Akin (or some Republican) in the Senate, so now is the time for all good Repubs and conservatives to just SHUT UP about the matter, other than to belittle Dem attempts to blow it out of proportion. Our job is to defeat the Dems not cry over spilt milk.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 10:30 am
Again, you make no sense. To state it in a more simple way – I was countering Stogie’s point that the “hysteria on the Right” was giving McCaskill ammunition. It has nearly no impact. The ads are already running replaying Akin’s words and connecting them to Ryan because of past, cosponsored legislation. Nothing anyone on the right has to say about Akin changes that.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 11:09 am
On what planet would Stacy McCain be considered “easily herded?”
August 22nd, 2012 @ 11:11 am
Are you kidding? He won’t be able to make a single public appearance without the Democrats throwing a woman who got pregnant from rape into the crowd to get in his face. He’s done.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 3:42 pm
WTF are you doing supporting McCaskill?
Do you want to see Obamacare repealed or not?
MO will have only 2 names on the ballot in Nov with any chance of winning: Akin and McCaskill. If you aren’t supporting Akin, you are supporting McCaskill.
Pull your head out of your bottom and wake up.
There’s a reason Republicans deserve the moniker “stupid party” and you, Mr McCain are it.
Just think how the D’s would have handled this and understand that their brand of ruthlessness got them to 60 votes in the Senate despite the fact that easily 40 of them should NEVER have been elected to anything in their lives.
Every D in the country would have either A) Circled the wagons and protected their guy until this blew over or B) STFU.
A grand total of 2 R’s in the whole country needed to distance themselves from Akin: Romney and Ryan. That’s it.
Instead, you’re helping make it impossible for the one guy in the whole country that can take McCaskill’s seat to do so.
Brilliant!!
August 22nd, 2012 @ 4:14 pm
Continuously attacking Akin gains the GOP nothing and greatly benefits their enemies. He may be selfish but his critics are so swept up in their vanity and stupidity that they’ve now caused more damage than Akin did. This didn’t need to happen in public and those who made it happen in public have demonstrated their gross incompetence at politics, negotiation, PR, and self control.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 4:47 pm
If Todd Akin is right then all those German and Polish women who got pregnant after the Russians left are lying. If Todd’s right then all the half white black kids all over South during the Jim Crow era were actually the products of loving relationships…If Todd Akin is right well I could go on and on.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 6:54 pm
Better to not give this kind of appeal publicity.
McCaskill and ten thousand of her cronies are donating even as we speak.
BTW, the appeals from Akin supporters to tell other GOPers to move on from his comments and support his candidacy again are beyond ludicrous.
Kudos to Crossroads for bailing on day 1.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 6:57 pm
Uh, no, don’t blame his critics. That’s absurd.
Akin, it’s time to go.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 6:58 pm
Akin is not under attack by the liberal media. They want nothing more than this bozo remaining in the race.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 6:59 pm
Well, after all, he’s appealing to Obama’s supporters now, and all indications are they’re in love with Akin now.
August 22nd, 2012 @ 7:01 pm
Are you so uninformed about the state of play on the ground in Missouri that you think no other candidate stands ready to challenge and resoundingly defeat McCaskill? Jeez.
