Forbath Lost Me At ‘Laws To Redress Want And Inequity’

American Power links the Grey Lady soiling herself with Commie tripe. Lots of good analysis from Mr. Douglas, but I went non-linear in the second paragraph:
The Supreme Court is again putting up constitutional barriers against laws to redress want and inequity.
Never mind about the Supreme Court actively putting up barriers. The SCOTUS is chartered to interpret the existing barriers, and when it goes putting up resistance to government expansion, the SCOTUS frequently resembles a punctured prophylactic in its retention capability.
But what’s this folderol about “laws to redress want and inequity”? Really? You can legislate away envy? Inequity? We’re assuming (a) a rational comparison function is attainable, and (b) somebody reliable can broker it. But our government doesn’t tax, budget, or spend in a remotely forthright way. Thus, Forbath cannot be seen as making a rational argument. ‘Want’ and ‘inequality’ being so subjective, Forbath is either (a) a complete fool, recirculating his own Kool-Aid, (b) diabolical, and making emotional plays at people who really ought to discern the scam, or (c) a combination of (a) and (b). I’m going with (b), because I don’t think these Lefties actually believe in anything whatsoever.
From the standpoint of sheer hooey, this statement ranks just a little below the all-time stupidest thing I’ve seen in print, also courtesy of the Nattering, Yammering Turd-mongers:
From the standpoint of governance, what is at stake is our ability to use the rule of law as an instrument of human redemption.
What idiots. The government is the traffic cop, not the automotive engineer. And when the traffic cop tries to exceed his bounds, it all comes up jackwagons. Would the NYT just please hurry up and die? We’re going to have a right jolly party, dancing on its bones.
Update: now a Memeorandum thread.

You got to love the crude Monopoly-set illustrations that always accompany these articles. Once again the left-heads can congratulate themselves on their superior powers of creativity and imagination.
But Prof. Forbath must be older than one of Stalin’s lingering farts, because he doesn’t know that the modern proggies do not acknowledge the existence of a “workingman”. There is only the union person, who must always be referred to as “the middle class”.

Interesting twist of logic: “…our ability to use the rule of law as an instrument of human redemption.”
Law is built/created by humans
Humans are in need of redemption
Only G-d provides for redemption/salvation (as these are conditions governed by religion).
If humans create a law that redeems humans, then they are inherently self-redeeming, and do not need law as for any transgression/sin, the human renders unto him or herself redemption/salvation.
If humans provide their own redemption/salvation, then either humans are G-d, or there is no G-d.
If humans are G-d, why do they need law to redress want and inequity? As G-d, they can create whatever they need, and don’t need laws that take stuff from other G-ds.

You’ve just put more serious thought into one blog reply than ManBearPig has, cumulatively, over years. At least in my estimation.

My state passed billions of dollars in spending for a high speed rail project. The state is broke. Our current budget is deep in the hole. The governor is banking on a ballot initiative where the people will vote to raise their own taxes on themselves.
In the meantime, they spend billions on a rail system that 60% of the population of the state don’t want according to recent polling by a major newspaper.
These Democrats are absolutely out of control. This is not “liberal vs. conservative”. This is sanity vs. lunacy. These people are just out of their minds and they are driving us deeper into debt with every passing month.
These people are simply insane. We need to get them away from the levers of government at ALL levels, not just federal. We need to get involved in our local politics and get these lunatics out of there. Federal, state, county, town, it doesn’t matter. Planning commissions, school boards, you name it, we need these people out if we have to drag them out by the hair on their heads and most importantly, we need SANE people running for these offices.

Good luck with that.

All left, even “center left” movements ultimately rely on their ability to create the “New Man” to succeed. Whether it be the “New Soviet Man” or the “Blond Beast” of Germany. These projects always fail and it seems the effort always involves killing millions of the “Old Man”. Leftism is always and only an arc descending into serfdom and darkness.

Wah wah. I want to be President and ride in those cool black SUVs too. But can I? No. I don’t have the required olive oil voice and Ghanaian charm.

Gray Lady soiling herself? All that requires is a press run. That’s all the old Gray Crone does anymore.
Crosspatch, it seems there comes a time in the life of every civilization that the masses go insane. It happened in Rome and now it’s our turn. In our case the masses have lost touch with and forgotten God. The results can be seen in Romans Chapter 1.
