‘Supidity’ Indeed. In Mathematical Terms, It’s Like Saying 2+2=3

by Smitty

Bill Quick is taken aback at the postulated indifference toward the gay Green Lantern comic from DC:

Why? Because mom and dad are such freaking idiots they think their kids will catch the dread gay disease from reading a comic book?
I’m gobsmacked.

This is the same Lefty media that brought you, in no particular order:

  • Barack Hussein Obama
  • Anthropogenic Global Warming
  • Butchery of the unborn
  • Orwellian Progressivism
  • and so on

Do I cling bitterly do my Western, Christian tradition in the face of this onslaught?

Am I concerned that my 10 month know how to swim before his feet no longer touch bottom in our effluent culture?

If somebody were to proclaim that 2+2=3, would it take some sophistication to respect the speaker’s free speech right to be completely jacked up about math, while gently refusing to let the speaker serve as one’s accountant? My example may seem absurd, but consider Madoof and Corzine.

Face it: the gay Green Lantern will go over about as well as gay marriage, when voters are actually given a chance to express their preference, an not told what to think by the judiciary. But this could actually be part of a second Obama term plan by DC, come to think of it. Drive their sales through the floor so that #OccupyResoluteDesk has to bail out comic books, and nationalize them.

Then, via taxes, I could be forced to pay for comics I don’t even want to read. Call it ‘a higher form of gay’.

Update: linked at The Daley Gator: ” I really do not care about Gay marriage one way or the other, but I do wish that we would let our kids be kids.”

Update: Linked at Andrew J. Patrick, who has some deep comic book thoughts.

I admit to being a clinger. The bitter I leave to the left, as they are bitter about anything that goes against what they want. They are, in other words, the true bitter clingers.

I don’t call them Jackwagons either. That is a dreadful slur against honest Jackwagons.

It would appear that Mr. Quick has not read up on his history — it isn’t a case of individuals “catching the gay”; it’s the societal erosion which opens the door to forms of totalitarianism and all the excess/depravity/immorality that goes with it that under a moral, ethical society would not be tolerated — and in fairness quite a lot of individual gay people don’t realize what exactly is going on, nor the dangers it poses to them if allowed.

I’m not inclined to go running around persecuting gays, but by the same token it’s probably not wise to buy the gay agenda as all happy, smiley, and nice wholesale (and that goes for homosexuals as well — you’ll be sorry folks; at least that’s what the history books have shown us! better think twice!).

Meh. They’ll sell comic books or they won’t. Perhaps they’re just trying to rid themselves of the stigma of the movie.

20th century events show what a lack of morals does. Amoral individuals killed untold millions in the 20th century.

Uhhh call me a “live and let live” Libertarian, but I grew up on comic books, the Fantastic 4 was my fav, had a crush on the Hulk.  Guys in tights just had to do a whole lot more heroic stuff to pull off the “super hero” thing in my book.  The Hulk, hell, he could just stand there and intimidate, plus he was fearless, loyal, had a big heart, hell of a sense of humor and over the top patriotism.  My kinda guy.  The problem with gay comic book characters is that sadly they are first going to have to redefine superhero values and attributes to make it work.  Nooooooo!  They always worked because the Hulks values were the majority of America’s values.  Redefine villains and catastrophic events?  No!!!  Even in the old westerns we still wanted the good guys wearing the white hats and winning in the end.  A clear line between being on the right or wrong side of the law and consequences for your actions.  The movie studios knew what worked too and that’s why those rough and tumble hearthrob leading men were carefully closeted if they were gay.  Gay superheros are going to catch on about as well as bankrupt solar panel manufacturing companies.  The deal is that anyone who first defines themselves and their character by their sexual orientation no matter what it is has a problem.  The deal is that any group of people who want special laws, privileges, entitlements, recognition, accomodation entirely based on their sexual orientation is going to have a tough time defining any other good values they may have or being convincing heros to anyone else.  I raised two daughters who make me very proud and they believe in truth, justice and the American way.   Good then, still damn good now.

The point is that there is nothing that “Manic Progressivism” can not soil and in the soiling bend to it’s purpose. The excrementalization of culture isn’t merely an end but also the means.

I’m up for making their excrementalization of culture into a glorious skidmark in the Underoos of failed Communist history.   If it means stuffing something in their ends to stop their means I’m good with that too.

First of all, it’s a publicity stunt.  Has “Golden Age” Green Lantern done more than be a rare guest in the modern comic world?  How long since he’s had his own comic?  Or did he ever?

DC had Superman, Batman, and the Flash, but they were all pretty two dimensional (heh) characters except for Golden Age Batman, who just killed the crooks.  Brett Kimberlin would have known better than to complain about him to Alfred.

Marvel had FF, Spiderman, Hulk, Iron Man, etc. – “super heroes with super problems” – and made them actual people with real lives.  DC has been playing catch-up ever since.

So what is the point?  Any kid caught even looking at Old Yeller Green Lantern (who had, as I recall, a serious weakness for wood IYKWIMAITTYD) is going to be labeled, taunted, bashed, and have his hair cut off.  Great marketing strategy, DC.  Whose idea was this anyway?  Bill Quick’s?

Flood society with gay images, then it will appear normal.  Once it appears normal, then well, why doesn’t everyone engage in it?  It even calls into question everything else considered normal behavior once the ball gets rolling.

If you think about it from that standpoint, you can see what could happen to common perceptions of family and morality, ethical behavior towards really anything — in especial,  vis a vis Judeo-Christian concepts of the same.

Like I said: the implications go quite beyond what most homosexuals consider, and many of them would wind up very much victims if the fullest extent came to pass (and they have before so there is no assurance that it would not happen again).

Hmmm, I have to ask: do you think every gay person is some effeminate pansy?

The characteristics you just described for The Hulk are pretty much in line with what some types of homosexuals would consider the gold standard (take the Spartan warriors for instance — not pansies, pretty darn gay…also liked subjugating “lesser” peoples and murdering “substandard” infants…charming bunch of fellas…very patriotic, but only in regards to their vision of the fatherland).

I tend to avoid things in popular culture that set out to preach to me, regardless of the message. And quite frankly, the preaching from the left — which pushes gullible warmening and faaaaabulous!!!!! marriage and government-run healthcare — is far more ubiquitous, because its channels are considered more “mainstream.”

If I were to go looking for anti-faaaaabulous!!!!!propaganda, I’d have to go looking for AM talk radio, or pray TV, or some outlet that the leftpreachers have marginalized while they took over the old Big Three networks and all the Hollywood studios.

This is something I’ve observed as a universal: I don’t care how devoted to small government you proclaim yourself, there’s something you’re perfectly happy to send in the jackboots about. The problem is that the jackboots are happy as long as they have someone to kick, and that someone could be you.

Of course, Bill doesn’t see this, just as he doesn’t appear to realize that those Copybook Headings with their own Gods are all quotes or close derivatives from Scripture. Morality doesn’t have to be religion based…. but it usually seems to be.

We all have our blind spots.

I don’t really care whether they’re making a character gay or not.  The problem is, they’re doing it in a lame way: not even taking a character of any significance, a Green Lantern from an alternate universe who had a gay son, and since they’re rewinding so he’s younger and thus doesn’t have a son yet, they’re making him gay instead.  It’s a silly and stupid retcon, that’s what’s wrong with it.

It also advances sexuality, promiscuity and self gratification in general ahead of all else.  At what point or what perversion will children or our culture learn to draw personal boundaries for themselves and at whose expense?  Adult women are not able to draw any boundaries living in an Islamic culture, making them property, chattel, disposable, much as we did in this country for so many years.  It astounds me how silent the women have remained on some of these issues which promise some deadly impacts for their children of both sexes in the future.

  27. Shawny
    June 2nd, 2012 @ 11:46 pm

No, I don’t and I have personally known, liked, disliked both masculine and effiminate gays of both sexes.  Hulk’s an ideal, not a real person.  And when I read the comic it was interpreted through my limited experiences and the naive culture of my day which packaged and sold ideals common to that culture.  I didn’t think of gay persons at all in any terms let alone catagorize them.  Hell, even the founding fathers wore tights.   But their sexual orientation, just like the Spartans, was not what defined them.  It was their character and their actions.  Patriotism wasn’t about the fatherland and wasn’t being used as a swear word like it is now.  The Hulk was on our side.   I think the diservice the gay community has done to themselves by identifying themselves by their sexual orientation first, fighting for their right to be gay first, rather than fighting for everyones right to be whoever they are was a limiting mistake.  They alienate themselves further with the “hate crimes” laws.   I don’t believe the government has any business whatsoever in licensing marriages of any type.

  28. Pathfinder's wife
    June 3rd, 2012 @ 12:13 am

Well, yeah, The Hulk is a comic book character — but it has to be understood that a hyper masculinized society (like the Spartans, who, it could be argued could be defined by their sexuality as much as anything — that society cannot be defined by Judeo-Christian values, merely judged in comparison with…and personally, I find the Spartans to be a society I would pray to never live in) will enshrine those very attributes (and those attributes are considered benign, even noteworthy and admirable under a different context, perhaps the most pernicious element of the problem).
As an example: “patriotism” — by the by, it will not hold the same image/meaning as what most people would consider it — not at least as most Americans would.  That’s why a person has to be careful to know what exactly anyone is meaning behind a word (like “liberal” for instance: the truth of the word is not the meaning that some have used for it, yet they have used the true definition to hide behind for a very long time).
Sometimes a very good word can be used as a cover for some very bad things — same with images.

  29. Pathfinder's wife
    June 3rd, 2012 @ 12:22 am

Or perhaps, now that I think about it: we should be careful not to ascribe our own feelings to a word…patriotism is a word not loaded in itself with any judgement towards  good or evil.  We tend to think of it as a good thing, but there have been times in history and space where the same quality created some things that were very, very bad, no?
I’m sure the Imperial Japanese Army in the ’30s and ’40s was very, very patriotic — yet we would likely not consider their patriotism necessarily a good thing, yes?

  30. Shawny
    June 3rd, 2012 @ 1:04 am

Yes ma’am, we could parse word meanings and how dramatically some have changed till the cows come home, but you asked me what I thought, not the Japanese or Spartans or Liberals.  The answers given can only be through my own life experiences  and commonly understood definitions of those terms.   I believe the question was relevant to whether I stereotype gays as effeminate and the answer was no.

Our society has turned into a proverbial “monkey-house”. Licentiousness is rampant, do your own thing and damn societal conventions, tear down everything just because you can and it feels good right now. Instant gratification and damn the consequences, the zoo-keeper will take care of everything. This current flap is just more primate feces thrown at the crowd.

  33. Pathfinder's wife
    June 3rd, 2012 @ 9:03 am

And I should be very brief, and more to the point:

there is a certain value/meaning overlap for some Americans and certain groups within homosexual society — at least on the exterior, but at the root, they are extremely unalike and even antagonistic (but if you merely focus on the exterior trappings, you will wind up being fooled — and therein lies the problem)

The muscular, hulking (heh), brooding hero who engages in bare knuckles bravado and is usually hyper militaristic, hyper patriotic (in a nationalistic sort of way), and yet completely disdains the notion of “all men are created equal” (don’t even think about adding women) — could be described as popular in American pop culture (especially comic books)…he also features pretty prominently in Tom of Finland drawings (and is also pretty well removed from the truth of things and when people mature they realize that…but how many people seem to be maturing nowdays?).

Because in the end, as your fellow Breitbart pointed out: culture is everything 😉

Once the culture goes, everything goes — and its degeneracy is very subtle, takes place on both the macro and micro scales, and thus is hard to root out and make right. 😉

But to the left, these changes are enlightenment and the maturing of what they view as a degenerate culture, the nationalism, patriotism, militarism, that has been the history of this nation with all of it’s warts.  The problem is that the utopia they think they are promoting and the totalitarian culture we will all end up with if they are successful are two entirely different ends and world history should be screaming that at them by now.
And about that national patriotism, militarism and brutish hero worship.  The things we value in our culture, whatever they are, if it is to survive, must be defended, fought for.  What our brutish heros have done is keep the blood off of our hands in relinquishing our responsibility for having to defend it ourselves.  A little worship is the least I can do.

In many places in the world that still is so and in those places each individual has had to take on the mantle of “brutish” defender or perish.  We have had the luxury here of talking about rights while others defended them for us rather than taking some of the responsibility of training and preparedness to defend ourselves.  Viewing what is happening in the other “civilized” nations now, this will be a very different conversation when our church is burned, our homes or property taken, our loved ones threatened or our freedom to discuss it silenced.  And then I’m going to need a hero or more importantly be prepared to be one myself.

Would you worship it if what was entailed meant pederasty, or the complete annihilation of “lesser peoples”, or the destruction of the nuclear family and the kids taken from their parents (and murdered if they were deemed ‘unfit’)?

It has not happened here on a grand scale (but it has been suggested and even followed by some), and that is largely due to our culture/society’s grounding not in what you just described, rather in Judeo-Christian principles (which if you study the course of history are somewhat at odds with the brutish hero — as in most historic reference said hero is beyond the scope of what we could commonly ascribe to right and good — the virtue of selfishness, will to power, and all that).  America has been able to tame and harness that force largely for good most of the time — but that is no assurance that it will always be so (re: degeneracy and destruction of our cultural foundations).

People should always keep a vigilant eye on the things they worship — they may mutate into things you should not and unless you keep a weather eye on it (that phrase is for our resident Long John Silver by the way), you may not realize until too late.
