Donald Douglas Doubles Down;
Brett Kimblerlin, Perhaps, Will Frown

American Power, living up to its name, pays a visit to the Congressman’s office. I’d do the same, except my Congresstool, ‘Gentleman’ Jim Moran, is more likely to wonder why people are picking on poor wee Brett, assuming Moran can be pulled away from day trading.

Those living in districts with halfway useful Representatives are encouraged to follow Douglas’s lead.

Update: more at That Mr. G Guy, who gages my opinion of Moran accurately.

Update II: still more at The Camp of the Saints.

    Plus, Moran would probably invite you out for coffee and then stick you with the tab.

    Moran likes bullying. No one ever set him in his place in the boxing ring.

    The chances of actually getting to see your congressman approaches zero unless you go on a scheduled “meet-the-people” event which some still host a couple times a year.  But if you can make the district rep understand the problem, it may well get passed up the food chain.

    That’s the problem in this whole affair:  it involves so much background and so many players that  even many people who are interested in it will not invest the time to read it all.  Aaron’s own post, which details his own interactions and only slightly touched on the other aspects, and it ran 28,000 words, not including linked stuff.  Who is going to read all that?

    Here’s a clue:  NOT your congressman.

    So give them a fifty-cents outline, send a follow-up email with links to a good summary like Stacy’s, and then follow up in a week or so with phone calls to both the district and Capitol offices.  Get a few friends to do something similar, or at least make the calls and send emails.

    It may or may not work. But it’s got a lot better chance than festering outrage in the conservative online community does of getting something done.

    Well, that counts me out then.
