James Sensenbrenner Chickens Out of Climate Change Conference Over Ad

Posted on | May 4, 2012 | 9 Comments

Just four hours ago, I told you about the awesome billboard campaign by the Heartland Institute, highlighting such global-warming fanatics as “Unabomber” Ted Kacynzinski. Now, unfortunately, Wisconsin Rep. James Sensenbrenner has chickened out:

Congressman Sensenbrenner will not participate in the upcoming Climate Change Conference if the Heartland Institute decides to continue this ad campaign. We have contacted the Heartland Institute and voiced these same concerns to them.

And Heartland has pulled the billboards.

Does global warming cause testosterone deficiency?

I just put the full press release from the panty waists at Heartland in a comment over in your original post.

The Billboards would be more effective than any conference.

Not a brilliant move by Heartland.
Pales in comparison to the genuine atrocities that the greenies do all the time

Nope, incumbency.   And seriously, why should Heartland hang their ass out in the wind when their own party is sniping at it?

    JUST SAY NO TO INCUMBENTS

On the one hand, those billboards are less bad than associating non-believers in CAGW with holocaust deniers.  And it sure feels good to give a loud FU to those idiots who love to use the D-Word.  But it sure seems like a bad PR move.

Smart move to pull them.  Manson and the Unabomber, with bin Laden to come?  Really?

When we have the facts on our side and we are beginning to actually win the argument among scientists, a stunt like this sets back the cause of common sense by provoking a sense of revulsion from the public, which really hasn’t studied the issue deeply.

To portray ourselves as wacko extremists when we are already winning is just stupid, period.

Ross McKitrick (one of the guys who debunked the hockey stick) has a letter to Joe Bast (Heartland) up at ClimateAudit taking them to task over the billboards.

You cannot simultaneously say that you want to promote a debate while equating the other side to terrorists and mass murderers. Once you have done such a thing you have lost the moral high ground and you can never again object if someone uses that kind of rhetoric on you.

I appreciate what Heartland does, and I know this year has been frustrating for you, and your staff may feel like venting. But I can’t be associated with those billboards. I had really been looking forward to participating in this year’s conference, but unless the billboard campaign is immediately suspended I have to cancel my participation.

The Right has a serious cowardice problem, they will sell their souls to avoid being called names by leftists who will never be nice to them anyway. Self defeating jackasses.

We’re in this condition nationally and globally because of a lack of testicular fortitude. Meh!
